Anyone here play Eve?

They're really low numbers for a typical MMO, and Eve is just that.
I am not aware of too many typical MMOs that have been around for 9 years, have year over year growth and are single shard (and soon to be single shard cross platform).

I'm not defending them, just saying that as an MMO, Eve may be smallish, but they are not like any other MMO I have seen.

Those numbers were from the blackmarket website, not the company itself.

Xbox policies were too restrictive. MS doesn't want players in xbox games interacting with players on other platforms, iirc. FFXI got away with it, but it was changed after that I believe.

Fuck, I don't want to play on the Xbox either, I want to play on the PC. It seems they are hinting that Dust514 may come to the PC, so fingers crossed.

This is true if your definition of "typical mmo" is WoW. (Actually, the "typical" mmo probably never makes it to release.) Feel free to list the subscription based mmos that will have 300-400k subscribers a decade after their release. Or if you'd prefer, just add the total subscription-years that the product has accumulated, to take into account games that are more successful at launch but have either less longevity or more recent releases. A quick glace at the mmo charts makes the number look like 6, with only two of those being based on western audiences.

ToR has around 1.3M subs, but then it's only 6 months old. Is it going to have the longevity to collect more subs than Eve overall? Possibly, but far from a safe bet. Either way, it's a bit amusing to consider the relative ROI's of Eve and ToR.

Yea, I think there might have been a misunderstanding. I was commenting on the numbers from the black market company, not the makers of Eve. I have some past history with buying and selling mmo currencies and accounts.

Edit: Although Eve is indeed still just a MMO. A different and unique one but nonetheless a mmo. It is a genre changer though, or at least can be consider the original of something bigger to come.

I soooo badly want to play it, but I am not paying a subscription for a game, ever.

I just go months without even touching a game, so this would be a net loss for me.

Delve is a region in Eve that is going to see a massive amount of destruction this summer.

This is entirely player driven and I am guessing trillions in ISK (in-game currency) worth of assets will be destroyed. Those assets are created by players playing the game, so that's thousands and thousands of man hours of work destroyed in battle.

Pretty cool.

Also, there will be spies, alliances turning on one another, buying each other off, etc. All sorts of politics. Between 10s of thousands of players in real time, 24-7.

I've tried to get in to eve a few times, I love the concept and freedom of the game I just have a hard time keeping an interest. I'll log in every now and then just to see my skills weeks away from being trained and then have no idea what to do from there, maybe I need to join a corp or something.

Join a corp. The game gets 10x better when you have people to play with. Don't join a hisec carebear corp (indy/mining). Join some monster organization in null/low and play in fleets.

Or you can join RvB (Red versus Blue) which is an alliance that has two warring corps. They will teach you basic PvP.

Guerilla the game looks amazing but honestly how much time are you putting into it? I got addicted to SC for six months and in the end that wasn't a good experience.

I log in once a day for 10 mins in the morning to set skills. If I can steal an hour here or there during the week, I might run some wormhole sites or hisec missions.

I don't have a ton of time to play, but my characters aren't skilled up for really cool ships yet anyway, so it all works out.

WAIT....

You only log in for 10 mins a day to set skills because your still flying noob ships. That means you've pretty much never really played the game or experienced what goes down in those above videos you post (because your skills are low).

Man your arguments for getting people interested in playing the game aren't very good if you only hop on to train skills (and for anyone who has no idea what this means. Everything in that game is based on skills. You have to train up skills and some skills can take days and even months to train, To be of any real use to anyone you need to basically have about 6 months worth of skills).

So I don't know if you've ever experienced the big battles that are glorified in those videos or not, but I'd suggest you go hop in one ASAP and see if its really worth waiting for those skills to train up. I'd hate for you to be disappointed.

But then again I thought I remember reading you messed around with the economy stuff. Anyway the game is about as fun as a lukep vs Guerilla discussion on government.

Good thing I have 3 chars over 6 months worth of skills then.

No, you don't know that.

It's not for retards.

I played it for a few a long time ago and lost interest. It looks like it's improved a lot though over the years. I'm currently playing League of Legends mainly, but I may have to give Eve another shot.

It's not for retards.

It's for 40 year old white guys who want to live out their space fantasy's controlling the universe and exerting their power over everyone else because in real life they get controlled by their wives.

So which part makes someone the retard? Sitting in a virtual sandbox fighting over imaginary places for hours a day. Or the guy who'd rather not sit in a virtual sandbox watching a tiny ship on the screen fly around for hours a day?
