LOL. Need to get into a corp. I have my own corp with only me in it, but I hang with an alliance so I have people to talk to in game.

That was awesome!!
The game is 80% social. It is about flying spaceships, but it isn't about spaceships.

I thought about joining Eve for a while, but I'm seriously worried about getting sucked in. I did that with WoW and lost two years of my life to that game. But seeing as how I'm in this niche...

...oh and G, I spotted the Eve icon in your task bar during the webinar yesterday. Was going to comment on that. :)

I play a bit of Warhammer Online.

Ever play Dawn of War 2? I loved that game but I'm horrible at any type of RTS game like Starcraft or Age of Empire.

Instead of controlling 200 units you control your commander and squadrons of guys.

I have Dawn of War and the first expansion for it, but never bought Dawn of War 2. I liked the original and all, there's just not enough time to play everything. I have a couple games I've bought and never installed simply because there's not enough time :(

I like nothing better than playing eve for 20 hours at a sitting while listening to Tony Robbins cds where he talks about making Fran Tarkington a better investor by teaching him to pat his head and rub his stomach at the same time.

I love the idea of Eve.

I have tried to play that game three different times. I just can't get into it. The min/maxer in me wants to dominate a world that cannot be dominated....so I always end up killing pirates.

Funny that my first post on this forum is about gaming! LOL

I played eve for way to many years, leaving and coming back and leaving. Finely for good!

There is however 1 game that's survived being transferred through several computer updates and you can get it for free now with shit tons of community made mods and maps.

Battlezone 2 Combat Commander!

There is a download link to the game that includes all of the most recent shit.

Here's the main site: Battlezone II - BZ2MAPS.US - Downloads of Mods Maps Patches - BZ2 Community Forums
Download from here though: BATTLEZONE COMMUNITY FORUMS • View topic - BZ2 1.3 AllinOne Zip Download via AS3.

So whats this game?

Its actually the very first hybrid RTS/FPS game made and its fucking fun as hell adrenaline rush in Multiplayer servers.

You can have up to a team of 5, 1 commander and 4 thugs and you fucking fight it out until 1 team looses. FUN SHIT!

Anyways, good to be here! HA!

Arguably the most advanced IRC platform ever fucking developed! The game is designed to make you sit and fucking wait for any "real" action for hours upon hours.

Oh yeah and you might look at the graphics of BZ2 and think, meh. But I'm telling you once you play in Multiplayer you'll be fucking adrenaline hooked.

I am talking about Eve, arguably the most beautiful and innovative game out there today. Give me a fucking break.

So are those scenes purely for cinematic value or are they seriously talking about including land battles? How about character interactions? It would be sweet if you could move about the space stations, cities and wilderness as your character. That to me is so much more appealing in an MMORPG... I don't want to role play a spaceship.

DUST 514 is coming out for PS3, and you will be a land based merc. You can be hired by capsuleers (pilots) and their corporations (guilds) in Eve. The Eve players will harvest materials, and manufacture the weapons for the DUST players. Eve players can do orbital bombardments in real time for DUST mercs, and DUST players will be able to shoot at orbiting ships from the ground. PC <=> PS3

The goal last year was for Capsuleers to be able to leave their ships and walk around in stations, but they had trouble delivering that. Still they have a really advanced avatar framework they call CARBON which they created and will not license outside their titles.

I am attracted to this game because the environment is a single shard sandbox, with a fairly realistic and incredibly competitive economy.

Plus, the world is persistent, so everything I do has a lasting impact. That will be the same with DUST 514. Every battle, every bullet will matter in some small way to the big picture of how the universe progresses.

BURN JITA

So there is this main trade hub system called Jita.

And there is the Goonswarm, a several thousand player alliance in the game from the Something Awful forums. They are the biggest and most notorious block in the game.

As a protest against the game developer, CCP, the Goonswarm is burning (destroying) everything in Jita for the next few days.

That's somewhere between 1200 and 2200 active pilots in the same area of the game, slugging it out non-stop for a few days, destroying 10s of thousands of real world dollar equivalent in game assets.

These are some in game photos taken by a brave pilot documenting the chaos.

In order to accomodate so many pilots doing so much at once in real time, CCP has come up with this technology called "Time Dilation" or TiDi. TiDi slows the game down for everyone in real time, so that the server can manage the load.

Apparently at one point, TiDi was running at 30% slower than real time in order to keep up. When the main assault begins later today, I expect it to get over 50%.
