Anyone here play Eve?

So the Ragnarok I posted above was killed a couple nights ago. It's one of the most expensive ships in the game, about $2800 US to replace if you were to buy ingame currency.

Titan Down: Vengeance for Past Theft? | THE MITTANI dot com

TL;DR

A guy stole a lot of stuff from a corp (clan). They plan revenge. They insert a spy into his new corp. Spy helps them kill the flagship of the new corp as an act of revenge.

I was on-grid for this, and it was hard to watch. Once the spy made his move, it was game over. Like watching a slow motion car wreck for the next 10 minutes.

But now it is part of Eve lore, and as they say, "I was there."

Dude this game looks fascinating. I just spent a hour reading that link on the guy who spammed people who wanted to buy the blueprint, and watching videos on EVE.

I have an exam tomorrow. I can never play this game or I'll become an addicted zombie.

It is awesome, but bear in mind, it's taken me 18 months to get to the point I am at in the game. Some of the guys I fly with have been playing for almost 10 years.

It's definitely a game that gets better and easier the longer you play.

That's probably a wise decision.

I bought my ex-girlfriend WOW for Christmas 5 or 6 years ago. She ended up meeting her future husband in a raid. They now have a baby, and I spend all my time hanging out with you guys online. Fuck MMO's.

So I am on Skype and Nick asks me how Eve is going and I remembered I wanted to post this video.

I need to provide some context without getting too nerdy, but if you play Eve, you will get this 99% at least.

So my alliance (TEST ALLIANCE PLEASE IGNORE) recently split from our coalition. The old leader of that coalition is a dork and we don't like him very much.

He is the FC (fleet commander) of the enemy (victim) fleet you see in the video.

On the edges of the video you will see purple and blue ships, those are Cloaky Squad aka Hoover's Heroes aka Cloak and Swagger. That's our bomber fleet lead by Wrik Hoover.

This may go down as the most impressive bombing run in Eve history to date.

Wrik's guys had one 10 man squad drop Void bombs, which drain energy (and disable defenses) then followed up with 5 squads of shrapnel bombs once the battleships were vulnerable.

What made this worse for the fleet being bombed, is that they were experiencing tidi (time dilation, effect to allow servers to handle load) so the game was playing in slow mo as you can see in the video. Their FC was issuing too many orders, they couldn't actually execute because the server was queuing all player issued commands.

The final death count was 86 battleships dead for approx. 40 billion ISK in damage, which is about $1,280 USD in damage. Bear in mind, unlike other games, pretty much everything in Eve is one use, when you buy it and it dies, it is gone. So that's a real $1300 (or hundreds of man hours) to replace what was lost here.

I was invited to go on this fleet, but the broadcast said 3 hour duration, and I was working and couldn't justify doing it. Big regret, this was an epic moment in a game filled with epic moments.

I played starwars galaxies back in 2003. I used to hunt player jedi.
I remember one guy on the opposite faction that was a player Jedi was a total douche bag. I remember one time sitting in one spot for 12 hours waiting the guy to log in.

The second he logged in I killed him.
I had someone waiting to kill him again at the spot he respawned (dedicated guild mates).

Originally player Jedi only had three lives and then they were dead. The abuse and hate this guy poured my way after I wiped out three months worth of his game time made the 12 hour wait worth every second.

I have evolved quite a bit as a player. I am all about the tears and causing epic rage now.

I met my wife in a raid in WoW about 6 years ago. We have a kid.

Interesting......same server same faction. Not played for 6 months though
I am TE. If you're not in an outfit, consider joining and PM for my name as a vouch.

That story was amazing.
That's a classic story, but Eve is loaded with stories like that.

It's very much a player driven game. The content comes from what people do, not what AI bots we can shoot or puzzles we can solve.

There is simply no game like it.

I played Eve months ago, I know I missed out on a lot of the game but I got out early because I knew I would be playing the game 24/7 lol

It's been a good day. I went for a low sec patrol as usual, searching people willing to fight me in my artillery thrasher fit, when I found a potentially good target flying around a small outpost. It was a daredevil frigate ship.

The thing about daredevils is that they are small, fast and hit like a truck. They are able to kill anything within their class of ships if the pilot is good and the fitting is right. My thrasher is a destroyer class ship, which has potentially higher damage output, but are slower and not that harder compared to frigate, essentially a glass cannon.

So I gave it a shot, since I was roaming without any results, figuring I would just jump few systems away in case I lost my ship. My thrasher costs about 15 million isk fitted and daredevil costs about 80 million before fitting so there is no big deal even if I lose.

He and I were the only pilots in the system so I looked at his killboard history, thinking I would find additional info on his fits. I found out he doesn't fit the tracking disruption module and that he doesn't really tank passively but has armor repairer. My artillery cannons have high alpha damage, which is good when you go against active tanks. I was ready to rumble, I approached to the acceleration gate, clicked on warp button and I was in there in a second, where he was eagerly waiting on me, looking forward to his kill. But my fit was a bit different than he was expecting I guess... he webbed and warp scrambled me so he could pin me down and make circles around me while I miss him constantly. But I managed to fit in a large afterburner propulsion module which I overheated and tried to move away from him while keeping him mutually webbed and scrambled. I needed only few hits with my guns. 1 hit, he was in ~20% shield, 2 hit and he was in his armor, 3rd hit went right through the rest of his armor and structure and he exploded.

Killboards

Oh man, I was so happy. Being a not that experienced player, slicing a 7k killboard ranked player in a Dodge Viper with a Yugo 45. Most important part of every post celebration ensued:

[ 2013.05.23 14:46:10 ] Gungnir Winder > ffs
[ 2013.05.23 14:46:31 ] Gungnir Winder > retarded thrasher with arties
[ 2013.05.23 14:46:46 ] Fiksie > how does it feel?
[ 2013.05.23 14:46:59 ] Fiksie > mm, those tears...
[ 2013.05.23 14:47:11 ] Gungnir Winder > LOL

After that he left local. Tears have been harvested. I managed to kill his 208 million isk ship with my 15 million glass cannon. I'm pretty satisfied at this point and logged off, ready to brag to the rest of my corpmates :D later on.

3 hours later, I planned to return to my corporation hangar and continue with my other stuff. I jumped through the stargate and I picked another daredevil on dscan. Needles to say I was pretty confident at this point:

Killboards

Woo-hoo. He was a better sport about it:

[ 2013.05.23 18:33:38 ] Temporary Amnesia > gf noooooooooo
[ 2013.05.23 18:33:46 ] Temporary Amnesia > wrong keep at range distance :(((
[ 2013.05.23 18:34:01 ] Temporary Amnesia > you lucky you ... /shakes fist

At this point I'm estatic. I was in a good mood all day and into the evening. I'm invincible and the thrasher is by far the best ship and nothing can beat it. Right?

Wrong.

What is better than a thrasher?

2 thrashers

Killboards

Unfortunately for me, these two guys managed to fast lock me on the gate and kill me in two shots. They fast locked my capsule as well, not sure if it is because of potential lag or thinking I wouldn't get out of gate induced cloak that fast.

Killboards

So that cooled me for the rest of the day. In the end it was ~350-350 million loss on both sides, granted 2v1 is not fair, but I didn't allow my tears to feed them.
