Anyone here play Eve?

^ Hahah YES the SA Goons!!!! They did the same thing in Wow w/ <Goon Squad> on Mal'Ganis server. Not sure if they are still around or not but they used to cause so many problem the game masters would actually have to get involved and teleport offending players haha. If you've played any Blizzard games, you know this is definitely a last resort type of situation as Blizz is very hands off with the playerbase. Goons definitely use strength in numbers in a lot of MMOs to create massively crazy situations. I'm glad to see they are still alive and well somewhere.

I've never played Eve. I heard there's a super huge learning curve. It's not that I can't learn, it's just that I don't know if I want to invest that kind of time over a game. I'd rather just be able to log onto Wow for a couple hours, do a few battlegrounds/arenas, and log out.

I'm with you though on the willpower, Guerilla. I've always been a diehard gamer and absolutely love games. I just believe in knowing when it's time to work and time to play. I've never really let it take over my life. My ultimate dream though is someday being able to develop a nice RPG or MMO. ;)

It's not that hard to learn once you start to connect with other players, a bit mathy at times. Best if you just jump in and fuck up until you make your way.

I'm not much into it anymore - if I want to play with a spreadsheet for a few hours, there are better things to be earning than ISK. But it's still awesome to watch Jita burn, there aren't many games which can deliver that.

You can buy ISK now. You buy PLEX which is an ingame tradeable timecode, and you sell it on the open market. Currently 500 million ISK = $18 USD give or take.

I don't have time for PvE, when I get in I just want to pew pew in some decent ships, so I bought some PLEX and sold it in game to fund my accounts.

It's not cheap, but it is efficient if you're into roaming and small gang warfare.

I'll play EVE when they add the FPS part too it. Till then... Without direct control over the ship it's just.... boring.

DUST 514 is coming out for PS3, and you will be a land based merc. You can be hired by capsuleers (pilots) and their corporations (guilds) in Eve. The Eve players will harvest materials, and manufacture the weapons for the DUST players. Eve players can do orbital bombardments in real time for DUST mercs, and DUST players will be able to shoot at orbiting ships from the ground. PC <=> PS3

The goal last year was for Capsuleers to be able to leave their ships and walk around in stations, but they had trouble delivering that. Still they have a really advanced avatar framework they call CARBON which they created and will not license outside their titles.

I am attracted to this game because the environment is a single shard sandbox, with a fairly realistic and incredibly competitive economy.

Plus, the world is persistent, so everything I do has a lasting impact. That will be the same with DUST 514. Every battle, every bullet will matter in some small way to the big picture of how the universe progresses.

I didn't see this post before, but if they make both those things a reality (interactive characters and the ground war) I'll definitely give it a go again. That sounds quite intriguing. TBH I wish someone would do a new Mechwarrior game like this, because I love the Battletech lore but this is pretty close to that vision.

Exclusively PS3?! W-T-F?

Xbox policies were too restrictive. MS doesn't want players in xbox games interacting with players on other platforms, iirc. FFXI got away with it, but it was changed after that I believe.

I wasn't comparing the gameplay. I was just stating that the numbers aren't really a big deal. They're really low numbers for a typical MMO, and Eve is just that.
