Anyone Stoked for Apple's Tablet Release?

This wasn't meant to be a 'tablet'.
It was made to kill the kindle, and it will + more.

They know exactly what they are doing. Plus this is apples first chip, thats more exciting.

the iphone was a game changer, but this will be the starting of a revolution for many thing.

They will still make a 'real' tablet.

Flash needs to die anyway html5 is great.
The lack off camera - 1st generation, what do you expect.
Background apps will come through software update.

wont put a dent in the kindle. nobody wants to read books on a backlit lcd screen. that's why the kindle can even exist in a world where everyone has a laptop already.

No, it will not kill the kindle. If it does, nickycakes will punch you in the face.

I'm only listening because you're unbiased......

Edit- fuck I just got trolled. Well played

It will kill off the kindle. Stop acting like it's fucking impossible to read text off a screen that isn't e-ink. You do it all day long, and so do I. I have yet to get a headache, eyehurts, or anything like that from reading off my laptop screen.

I've read starship troopers in notepad, twice, with absolutely no problem what so ever. But, while this iPad still needs a few things, so do the other tablets that are out already. I was doing a lil research about the other tablets, and they're all missing similar stuff. Either the battery life is too short, or the screen is even smaller than the iPad, stuff like that.

But yeah, Kindle/Nook is probably going to be fucked. Or, won't sell nearly as well. If it doesn't, I'll let nickycakes punch me in the stomach at ASE.

EDIT: The pad/tampon jokes are already old. No more please.

EDIT: Accessory images so people can stop talking about the lack of a keyboard/stand

What I really wanted to see today was a AirBook that was snapped in half and the screen mounted tablet style with touch capabilities. I would have bought one no problem if the fucking pos wasn't just a big iTouch.

Also to you guys that say this is going to be a kindle killer..

iPad = $1,000
Kindle = $259
MacBook = $999
Nook = $259

seriously it isn't going to happen.

Look up some of the LCD asthenopia studies. The only reason we don't get crazy eyestrain when surfing the Internet is because the images and colors are constantly changing. And even at that, most people start to feel eye strain within 45 minutes to an hour before they have to look away.

e-ink on the other hand does not force your eyes to constantly refocus over and over again, which is something that happens every few seconds when looking at an LCD.

If you can read an entire script in notepad, more power to you and your super human eyes. But normal people, like me (and I have 20/20 vision), just can't do it. I get a headache after about 20 minutes. Hell... I just had to look away and rub my eyes after typing this on the white background with black text.

If Apple really wanted a "Kindle Killer" they should have used this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transflective_liquid_crystal_display

1) Apple created the iPad to increase their customer base. They want to become the #1 company when it comes to electronic technology. They have already built a very loyal number of fanboi's that buy their products at sight, and now they are trying to reach the interest of non-fans, and create them into fans. Which is why they actually priced the iPad pretty reasonably compared to their other products.
Non-fans don't own the iPhone/iTouch, so they won't view it as a giant iTouch.

2) Apple is known to constantly improve on their products. Give the iPad 1 year, and it will have a lower price, better built, more functions, and what makes the iPhone/iTouch so great? The applications. The custom made applications on the iPad will really be ingenious.

3) Apple is a fuck strong brand. I go to college, and 90% of the students there have an Apple product. That's because the young audience associates Apple as a cool company. This iPad will be fuck popular in that crowd in 2 years. Mark my words. Apple tells us what is cool.

4) The iPad wasn't made for intensive computing. It's there for entertainment. Going to a baseball game? Take it along with you, whip it out during the game, check your stats, adjust some bids, and put it away. Taking a long bus/train ride home? Whip it out, read the news, check out wickedfire. What I am trying to see is that the iPad is there for casual use, and not to do "work" on.

I'm not a fanboy of Apple, but I respect their brand. I owed the iPod Nano, and the iPhone, but I don't use the macs. What I love about Apple is that they force companies around themselves to step it up a level, and put up competitive products. Many of you are always saying that the idea of a touch phone wasn't innovative, and same for the iPad; but guess what, those other companies the first brought up the innovations lacked the ability to properly market their products. While Apple is able to hype the product, with the help of fanboi's, and actually raise product awarance, and I'm positive that 90% of the US population believes that Apple was the first touch phone and the first tablet.

whip it out of where? you carry a man-purse or something? a netbook will fit anywhere this thing will and is cheaper and better in literally every way possible.

For tasks such as reading the news, quick campaign changes, the iPad will do it faster than a netbook. Guarantee you.

You're right about the portability, but I'm sure cases will come out where it's portability will be bearable.

Also, we can't talk about the price here, because 75% of the cost of an Apple's product is the brand name, and the other 25% is the product itself.

Lastly, obviously if you want to do work, a netbook > iPad. But if I want to relax on my couch while watching some Law and Order, I would much rather use an iPad.

Backpack, your girls purse. Also, I might add, it's impossible to watch video on a netbook/laptop and shit at the same time. Since this has one screen, you can just hang it on the wall, and do the damn thing.

Also, calendar and contacts rock. I don't know many people who store their calendar and contacts on their netbook and then keep lugging it around.

It'll be nice for showing photos/videos to friends. If all else fails, it'll make a nice $500 picture frame. This is on par, if not better than the other tablets that are out there at least. And is made for a different use than a netbook

like on a scale of computing tasks, it be iPhone/Blackberry/Zune > iPad > Netbook > Laptop > Desktop

It's for shit that's too awkward to do with a netbook/laptop or a phone/ipod. Granted, that's not a pretty big space. But it's enough for someone to spend $500 to fill. Plus, Apple products drop boxer briefs. Every time.

Other manufactures are making tablets too. Running windows7.

Example, this thing is not so refined but was made in 2007.

Was thinking a very small slim pocket sized blue tooth keyboard/track pad would be real handy.

This is a newer model very pricey...

Yes I know some tablets are rather bulky. But was just trying to show this tech has been here a while. Apple is just going to refine it and turn it into micro-digital crack to feed the mac addicts.

I have a Dell XT and it's worthless as anything but a standard laptop. I played with it as a tablet for about 10 minutes when I set it up and decided that functionality was worthless. What's more annoying is that you pay 3x the standard for the computing power just because it's a tablet. Also, the screen is held on by a swivel, so when you use it as a laptop, the screen sags to one side or the other.

The Apple tablet looks a lot different, but tablets are inconvenient as fuck either way. I can type faster than I write, so who gives a shit about going paperless. And what else is there? Tapping away and writing on a screen is uncomfortable and frustrating. For the price: get a Kindle and a Netbook and call it a day. Shit, you could get a Kindle for reading, a Netbook for working, and an iPod Touch for looking at Spankwire. Who gives a fuck if you have to carry all that around- be a man and use a briefcase.

i have a magazine stand in my bathroom that holds my laptop just perfect. the logistical nightmare i'm imagining for mounting a tablet on the wall in front of your toilet (if you have one, none of the 3 bathrooms in my place have a wall close enough) is hilarious.

Also, calendar and contacts rock. I don't know many people who store their calendar and contacts on their netbook and then keep lugging it around.
lmao, uhh blackberry? why would a tablet make you more inclined to keep your contacts on it than a netbook, especially if you're being pigeonholed into whatever shit apple has that will only sync with an iphone. OH HOLD ON I WANT UR CONTACT INFO BUT LET ME OPEN MY BACKPACK AND GET OUT MY TABLET INSTEAD OF REACHING FOR MY PHONE LOL

Sorry, but my netbook loads pictures just fine. And since they're all stored on my external usb drive as well as sdcards which fit in my netbook which the tablet can't use without expensive adapters....well you're pretty much fucked in the ass.

like on a scale of computing tasks, it be iPhone/Blackberry/Zune > iPad > Netbook > Laptop > Desktop
lol. wat?

I can't think of a single task that using a tablet wouldnt make MORE awkward than a netbook. Not a single one.

So basically you're saying that if you buy this, you're either a retard or incredibly superficial...

Fuck brand names. I want a good product.

suggested retail price
$499 (US) for the 16GB model
$599 (US) for the 32GB model
$699 (US) for the 64GB model

The Wi-Fi + 3G models suggested retail price
$629 (US) for the 16GB model
$729 (US) for the 32GB model
$829 (US) for the 64GB model

Let's stop with the $499 BS. $829 for one app at a time and only 64GB. Add tax and AppleCare to make it just over a thousand. Seems too much for too little, but Amazon better move quick or it will get run over.

Locked to AT&T (who is pushing their 3G network) and no 3G on the models that are marked for the masses.

Can you even access the iTunes store without Wi-Fi?

All said still will be in the store to check it out unless someone close comes up with one before the date. Never "know" until you actually work with it, but so fair this fails the sniff test.
