NOTHING to do with the iPAD - it's just funny as hell.

The fact that this crossed your mind as a possibility shows a clear lack of understanding of the industrial design process at Apple.

lol wut?

Your telling me that apple can't make a thin touch screen tablet that has hardware capable of running OS X? Despite having a thin computer that already runs OS X and having capable touch screen technology.

The only reason they made this POS is because they wanted to make a second app store just for the iPad. Apple is making a fortune off of its app store and is probably doing better there than in normal pc sales.

Not now... but soon.

who the hell brings a backpack to a baseball game?

oh wait, you're right, it's the cool thing to do.

what kind of douchebag spends the entire game on the phone?

For tasks such as reading the news, quick campaign changes, the iPad will do it faster than a netbook. Guarantee you.

You're high if you think you're going to get more done faster without a keyboard and the ability to multitask, not to mention run any actual programs you might need to complete your tasks. And what is this kind of activity anyways? Might it be "work"?

obviously if you want to do work, a netbook > iPad.

You're horribly contradicting yourself.

Also, we can't talk about the price here, because 75% of the cost of an Apple's product is the brand name, and the other 25% is the product itself.

Of course we can talk about the price dummy. Value for money is measured by feature set vs. cost. If the device can only do a fraction of what something a quarter of its cost can do then that's not good value for the money... nor is it smart. But as you've pointed out more than once here, it's not so much about being smart as it is looking cool.

your all forgetting one key point.

95% of technology users are fucktards.

How many friends/family members pc's have you set up/sorted out etc when they have bought a new pc or fucked up the one their using? give em something simple that works out the box and 95% of people will be as happy as a pig in shit.
as already said most iphone users believe that its the shit and the first to do touch screen etc etc. anyone with half a brain knows this to be utter bollocks but apple have still sold a shit ton of them globally

i have an iphone 3g and its is nowhere near as capable as my old HTC tytn2, it doesnt even come close in features and specs but damn me if the fucking thing doesnt just work every time i pick it up. do i miss multitasking, true gps etc, no not really and i really dont miss rebooting the fucking thing at least once a day cos i've hacked the shit out of it.
yeah its simple and lacks a shit load of stuff but hey it turns out i dont need most of that shit anyways. and frankly i'll swap it for a device that just works.

regarding the ipad, could it have been better, hell yeah but given that the fucktards who will buy it in droves have never seen the inside of a pc, never tweaked, replaced, overclocked, hacked or otherwise done anything remotely interesting with their technology it will be perfect for them. Internet check, photos check, itunes check. how many netbook/laptop users really do anything other than that anyway.

will i buy one, probably but not until gen 2 or 3, will it replace my netbook no fucking way but it may just be the perfect sofa surfer lets see what happens.

oh and yeah kindle is fucked, ipad will appeal to all the casual users leaving kindle with a niche market, they'll make money but they aint going to be huge. end off

+rep, summed up really well.

I also think apple is holding features back to cause slight disappointment so they can lower the bar for next years release of V2.

Like you know, with iphone, no video recording... what happens next year? video recording!

Im surprised no ones talked about jailbreaking the fucker.

I'll wait until someone figures out a way to effectivly run a Linux distro on it so I can have an fucking sweet hacking machine. Touch screen Nmap anyone?

this thing is a failboat. I can see this working tho bc the print industry LOVES this thing. in Europe some major distributors are already thinking about crippling their online versions of their newspapers just to cash in on ipad users, lmao.

I skimmed through this post cause fuck me if I'm reading 200 posts when I'm tired as shit but it seems to me like a ton of you guys and gals think that this thing doesn't come with a fully functional keyboard.

Maybe you should watch the video below in full before you start saying shit you know nothing about.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tjtrZl7sdQ"]YouTube- Broadcast Yourself.[/ame]

More importantly start watching from 2:30 in and oh wow a keyboard.

But besides that you shouldn't promote this because I would absolutely love to rake in like 10 or 20 million all by myself instead of sharing it with everyone else.

Yes I know I'm greedy but what ya gonna do.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that once upon a time people never thought you can play the games we can play now on the iPhone... I bet this thing can do more then expected, it won't be something that us nerds will find absolutely amazing but I do think it's something the average person will line up for which makes it worth promoting in my books.

EDIT #2: Ok fuck I'm not even done watching it (I should take my own advice), if any of you are making money advertising mobile shit on the iPhone, just think AdMob will most likely soon come out with an advertising platform so we can target iPad users as well.....more oppurtunities will arrise.

Dude I seen a guy playing Starcraft on a touch screen before, it looked so much easier and kick ass to play like that, check out the video.

I know the iPad won't allow us to do this but it would be pretty sweet to try and hack it so it can, try out Warcraft on a touch screen haha.

or this one.

I think this post is spot on. The ipad is not going after the market for technical users. The type of users that like to have total control over every little aspect of their equipment, operating system etc.

The market for the iPad is people that want to have the convenience of not having to break out a laptop, netbook, desktop, whatever . . to accomplish some simple tasks, like checking email, surfing the web, checking news, updating facebook, whatever . . .

The strong thing about the iphone and ipod touch is the interface and the simplicity that is presented over the technology. This simplicity allows people to do the task they want (usually not extremely technical) and move to the rest of their day, doing other things that interest them.

When I was younger, and didn't have kids, demanding job, and the energy, I was all about controlling every aspect of my technology and knowing everything about I could. I eventually turned that passion into a career around technology so I can be grateful for that.

Now, I just want to use the technology for things that interest me and not get involved in the details of registry settings, how many gigahertz I'm currently using, etc . . I still do care that the equipment is capable to accomplish the tasks at hand, but don't get involved in the details on how to get there. If I need more RAM, I will buy it without delving into who makes the best, lowest latency RAM these days.

The majority of people do not have the same type of tech background I have but still want to accomplish tasks around computing in the simplest way possible. This is the target market for the iPad.

Also, it's game changing from the standpoint that it is going to be the first tablet computer that you just pick up and know how to use. If a real OS was put on it, then there would be the immediate learning curve and barrier to adoption and being an everyday part of routine.

Say what you want about the iPhone and iPod Touch, but it's true that it has a very low learning curve on how to use it. you can give one to a 5 year old and they can use it.

Same thing will be true with the iPad but people will use it more due to being easier on the eye and in the more familiar form factor (it seems to be about 8 1/2 by 11.

Not everyone is technical, nor wants to be. And you know what? That's okay.

All that said, it is missing some key features . . .like multiple users. Don't want little johnny sifting through my email or browsing those viagara websites, right?

true, and thats why everyone buys it - and that's great because .. 2 months later it'll be hacked .. and we can all use it properly ;)

They always put out a product that is the best thing in the market but still lacking in major areas and they overprice it. They know it will sell millions so why would they pack more into it? The 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation iPad's will come with all the stuff they COULD have put in the iPad now.

Apple's strategy is in generations. I'm going to probably end up buying every generation of the iPad like I have the iPhone.

I have to admit, even though you can buy the thing with 3G for an extra $120 or so, I am pretty pissed that you can't just plug it in to your iPhone and tether.

I would think that it would have been easy for Apple to market to iPhone users like myself that if for some reason I did want to get an iPad, I could simply get the wifi one and plug my phone in the multipurpose port to share the connection. Or use the Bluetooth tethering or whatever.

Since my phone is jailbroken I can just use one of those wifi-hotspot creating softwares, but the average user doesn't know how or care about doing this.

Small thing, but it really stood out to me as missing when I watched the keynote
