Lastly, obviously if you want to do work, a netbook > iPad. But if I want to relax on my couch while watching some Law and Order, I would much rather use an iPad.
You're already on the couch, why not just use a Nettop? You just bolt it to the back of your TV with the existing wall bracket mounts, and use the wireless keyboard/mouse to control it. You get full HD with HDMI, and you can dump Netflix or whatever you like on it.

$29.99 Keyboard/Mouse/Remote
Or just hook whatever wireless crap you want up to it. For $400 you turn a HDMI TV or for $300 an LCD (DVI/VGA) into a PC with almost zero loss of space for watching movies, chatting, or whatever else you want to do with it. Oh, and it supports any video/audio format you want, and Windows 7 shares your movies/music/files around the home for you anyway. Not to mention, it supports flash and multitasking. You now have choice of Hulu, Netflix, Zune, Torrents or even the ever shittastic iTunes store for your video needs.
If you need to leave the house, get a netbook.
