Web design

Hi guys,

I have been a web developer and Internet Marketer for over 7 years now (full time). I did think of this idea a while back but never tried it. I guess I will give it a shot now.

I live near New York City, butI came from Nepal (its a country between India and China). There are a lot of webdesigners there but most aren't used to hanging out on freelancing sites. You might be able to get some good talents for a decent price there.

If you need help posting for jobs in the proper Nepalese forums please feel free to ask.

I myself have a team of 6 guys who I taught web design and black hat seo from scratch.
Now all I do is give them them the keywords and they know what to do. A few hundred dollars in expenses every month can bring in tens of thousands every month.

some real amazing information here, i am looking into dropping affiliate marketing and getting into this. I am a much more sales oriented person, and not as much SEO savvy, yet :). but i have a few questions.

I want to check my procedure through you guys who really understand this more than i do:

-i am in an area with very small competition, I'm checking out search traffic and it is minimal, 4-10 searches a day with the 'city "xxx restaurant"' format, do you think i can still sell this to businesses?

-I'm going to register one domain, and use it as a site that lists the "Best Restaurants in [my area]" One page per bidding restaurant. Possibly expand to hotels, and other niches.

Also more importantly, anyone here that lives in the RHODE ISLAND / CONNECTICUT area and is interested in forming a legitimate business around some of the models posted above or needs another competent member, contact me at justneil@cox.net . I really see this as a huge business opportunity for the next few years as the internet becomes hundreds of times more important to small businesses.

Hi everyone, first time poster here. I just got on this forum yesterday and its great. Especially this thread here.

Thanks for your posts kimboslice, helped me understand a lot more about this.

So let me get this straight. You build a directory site, and you somehow fit tons of keyword centered pages into it, all either pre SEO'ed or going to be either by ppc or organic. I am guessing this stuff is what you outsource right?

What would your main website directory page look like? Let's say you have 200 keywords. Is it going to have like a bunch of links to the 200 keywords? If so, wouldn't that make it cluttered?

I appreciate the feedback everyone.

I was curious what the big directories were doing. So the other day I emailed magicyellow.com regarding their listing service.

Basically, for a $300/year they would put up a page of info about your business in an html page (something like magicyellow.com/.../1234556.html)

Through live meeting, a rep there showed me how they were ranking for terms like "beauty salons in los angeles" or "plumber in .....".

He then wanted to demo me "my keywords in my city", to show me that I could be on the first page through magicyellow.com

To his surprise, I was already number 2 on Google for the term and magicyellow was nowhere on the page.

Well, he didn't have nothing much to say after that.

But the whole idea was just to find out how the yellowpage directory guys are marketing it.

Conclusion : $300 / year.

I personally haven't tried it yet. But I doubt if I can get thousands from these local clients for ranking #1. But again, if you play the numbers game, who knows.

This is a very informative thread.

Just a note to blsnk: I don't think that the keywords would be organized in that manner. It would probably be arranged as links or something of the sort.

Thanks starthere, I understand how to do that part now that I've looked at one of the previous links on this thread(cutietools). What I don't get now is how you could possibly target keywords in small cities where there is barely any searches for those kinds of keywords. The point IS to target small cities right? So there is less competition on the search engines so you wouldn't have to fight your way through 500k+ results to the first page..

If a city is small enough there would barely be any searches. I guess it all really depends on how you sell your service.

Definitely a good post but...

But... the part about getting the pages on the top of Google seems to be the real magic yes? Isn't this sortof like If i had a great product for free, then i could sell the hec out of it.... but having the product is the key.

Outranked by your advertising

Good find LotsOfZeros. The person's craigslist ad is to technical for a fence repair person to understand the benefits of it. The person is also not offering any way to track the "possible" success of being on the web.

The funny thing is that the site being advertised shows up on the first page of google but it gets outranked by the craigslist ad the site owner posted. I guess he listed all his keywords and with craigslist's PR he got outranked. To funny.

I still think the cutietools is well executed and written beautifully. And the content is awesome :)

Found an example of this in action:
Fences website for sale

You think all of these metatags are really necessary? He has a list of local zip codes in there. I would think that would be regarded as a bit spammy by googlebot.

I am Ausaf from Pakistan. Plz send me some brief & meaning full info about your work. I am intrested it.

Thanx !!!

Wtf?

If meta doesn't matter, why does Google use meta description sometimes? If meta doesn't matter, why the hell in Webmaster Tools does it say if your meta tag is too short/too long?

Does it have *great* impact? No. Does it still have some? Yes.

Hi guys..

Thanks for the great advice from the topic starter and Kimboslice. I started with 10 niches 1 month ago and all the 10 sites succeed to ranked in the first page of 2 and 3 words keywords.

Unfortunately I am not able to sell it (yet). The sales process is something I had underestimate. I've created 10 different sites (10 domains) like realtorinmytown.com, italianrestaurantinmytown.com, chineserestaurantinmytown.com etc. So now the sites are ranking fine in the first page with great keywords I have no idea how I can sell this to business owners. The site is a simple blog with a 500 words content about the subject/niche and when I show the business owner this site he is asking his self what he should do with it.. let's be honest a business owner can't see the value of a blog.

Can anybody advice me with this issue? Or perhaps it would be better to create a directory and sell advertisements instead of a whole site/blog?

Thanks in advance!

Pam,

You've got to sell a concept. The product isn't whats important. You've got to sell the amount of people looking at this blog. The concept of viewership is what you're selling. Not 500 words on some blog

Simple.

Figure out how you can add to your potential customers bottom line and SHOW THEM THE MONEY.

Determine how many clicks your optimized pages get on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

Figure out the average sales price of what your potential client is selling.

Now, figure out how much money they'd make if they could close 100% of the clicks that come from your optimized page you're offering.

Now.. Sell THAT figure (or whatever % of that you deem realistic) added to their bottom line to them.

There ya go...
