The only over unity power source is Andrea Rossi - more bullshit comes out of him than material goes in. Every time he pitches this snake oil he breaks the second law of thermodynamics.1 MW E-Cat Cold Fusion Device Test Successful
Today is set to be the start of a new era of cheap power, as a new type of low-cost nuclear reactor goes live in front of an audience of scientists and media representatives in Bologna. Once the mystery customer who commissioned the device has confirmed that it really is producing one megawatt, they'll pay the developer, Andrea Rossi.
They would if Rossi had proven it... But he won't on purpose. :thumbsup:Wouldn't the government have blocked this from appearing by now, Luke
If (BIG IF) the device is working as Rossi eludes, we have matter begin converted to energy. Typically, we think of this happening as a chemical reaction, ie, more than one fuel sources being 'burned' to give off heat, etc. A very simple example is burning wood. The first law of thermodynamics distinguishes between two kinds of physical process, namely energy transfer as work, and energy transfer as heat.

The nineteenth century law of conservation of energy is a law of physics. It states that the total amount of energy in an isolated system remains constant over time. The total energy is said to be conserved over time. For an isolated system, this law means that energy can change its location within the system, and that it can change form within the system, for instance chemical energy can become kinetic energy, but that energy can be neither created nor destroyed.
and
The first law states that energy can be transformed, i.e. changed from one form to another, but cannot be created nor destroyed.

If MIT has a working reactor today... Then it can be assured that the government and pals will know it works and the game will be up.
One interviewee in a face-to-face conversation with the Kachan folks in a location abroad, told of a small company he’s involved with that he claims has built a working 1MW fusion reactor the size of a rice cooker.
The as yet unnamed company is now apparently in the process of building a 10MW version that it plans to trial in 2012.
(Meaning it's cheaper & easier to make.)The report on this company’s fusion reaction says it’s fuelled by deuterium and tritium at not nearly as high temperature as other efforts. Specifically, the reaction is said not to require the high temperature, high pressure or accelerated particles of others’ approaches.
strategic investors are said to include family money, such as a Shanghai real estate baron and decedents of American industrialist John Pitcairn, Jr.
The inventor has been at the development since the 90s, sworn employees and investors not to let on how successful the research has been, and is said to have retained the former head of Israel’s counter terrorism unit as its chief of security.
The company is said to have already fielded a buyout attempt by General Electric. The inventor apparently didn’t want the invention owned by just one corporation, characterizing it as an invention for mankind, apparently.
The company is also said to be secretly working with the Australian Air Force and Navy, and the U.S. Department of Defense, and aims to trial a 10MW version of its reactor in 2012 with an Australian utility.
My change of mind was a direct result of talking with Dr. Dennis Bushnell, the Chief Scientist for NASA Langley who has assured me that over 100 experiments worldwide indicate that LENR is real, capable of producing energy much greater that chemical reactions, with minimal radiation, that theories indicate that what is happening is weak interactions, beta decay and NOT fusion of any kind. Frankly, it does not seem to me to matter what we call it if it works and Bushnell says it does work.
It wasn't about him being ahead of his time, it was more about his priorities. He lived for science, he didn't live to make money. He didn't care about money, as long as he was able to work on what he was passionate about he was the richest man on the planet in his mind.
