1 MW E-Cat Cold Fusion Device Test Successful

Today is set to be the start of a new era of cheap power, as a new type of low-cost nuclear reactor goes live in front of an audience of scientists and media representatives in Bologna. Once the mystery customer who commissioned the device has confirmed that it really is producing one megawatt, they'll pay the developer, Andrea Rossi.
The only over unity power source is Andrea Rossi - more bullshit comes out of him than material goes in. Every time he pitches this snake oil he breaks the second law of thermodynamics.
That people keep believing his crap, and giving him money - powers my reasons for being here. Sad, but good.
Bet you $10 from your next blood donor check that somehow the magic doesn't happen. Maybe it's be because of the Illuminati, or "too much negative energy" from haters - but it. will. not. happen.
In other bullshit news - the world didn't end on 11/11/11. Prepare for 12/12/12 buy [insert magical product here].
P.S. watts ain't a measure of energy - but then science isn't a strong point amongst his supporters. Now if we could just generate joules from stupid... hmmm, does fat burn?

I've heard many of these but nothing is proved hope that it is going to be a grand success.if it works we would be benefited with reduction of electricity bills.

UPDATE:

BIG Sales site, making all kinds of claims added today: ECAT.COM

Still noone has disproven the tech... But it will take almost 3 months before other customers come online with their purchases to confirm more.

Wouldn't the government have blocked this from appearing by now, Luke ;)
They would if Rossi had proven it... But he won't on purpose.

At the moment, even the US Patent department says that any kind of room-temperature fusion at all is against the laws of physics, so no one is taking this seriously!

Those who would be blocking it (such as big oil, not the gov!) are enjoying what they are sure to be a major Fail parade, because the more who fail at something under lots of press the more they scare other scientists away from the field.

I know there's a slim chance that he's found a way around the laws of physics here... Don't worry, I'm not going to be heartbroken if he fell flat on his face soon, but I gotta say this: If he were for real, then he's going about it in the right way, using everyones' skepticism to his advantage to buy time.

The fact that he mortgaged his house to build that prototype speaks volumes... But in this world, raising your hand and saying you did something that will cost other people or corporations billions of dollars is always suicidal. So the choices of a smart person with his solution in hand were limited to: 1.) Do it this way, or 2.) Forget about it and go work on something else.

So here's hoping...

Okay where are we at here? Whats going on? Jet pack needs thruster nozzles rotated and a new fusion pellet.

Lets have the E-Cat update.

Lots of stuff that is also not concrete.

There was a hilarious blog post one one of those Rossi-worshipping sites a week or so back where someone Named "Somyongai posting for Chan" said he recreated Rossi's design and it worked 100%... Sad thing is that tons of people believed him and no one there has any idea what 4chan is... Tons of people still beleive him right now and are reposting his "success." -Priceless.

I just saw today though that Rossi's second customer is in "the northeast USA" and he just returned from installing a 1MW reactor there, so he hopes that customer will come forward and tell the world it works soon... But he's not required to. :\

Just watched the video at: How does an ECAT work?

What is interesting to me is that it ran self-contained (no external electricity) for over 3 hours. That is very hard to fake (not impossible but very hard).

If Rossi is out to scam anyone, he definitely is a very crappy con-artist. He really needs a good spin doctor on his team to sell this thing.

Btw, to all the first law of thermodynamics lovers .. something to pinpoint.
The first law of thermodynamics distinguishes between two kinds of physical process, namely energy transfer as work, and energy transfer as heat.

and

The nineteenth century law of conservation of energy is a law of physics. It states that the total amount of energy in an isolated system remains constant over time. The total energy is said to be conserved over time. For an isolated system, this law means that energy can change its location within the system, and that it can change form within the system, for instance chemical energy can become kinetic energy, but that energy can be neither created nor destroyed.

and

The first law states that energy can be transformed, i.e. changed from one form to another, but cannot be created nor destroyed.

If (BIG IF) the device is working as Rossi eludes, we have matter begin converted to energy. Typically, we think of this happening as a chemical reaction, ie, more than one fuel sources being 'burned' to give off heat, etc. A very simple example is burning wood.

In the E-Cat, the nuclear force is being used to generate heat which is very different from a chemical reaction. The closest analogy I can think of is a typical nuclear reactor. At an overly-simpllified level, in a nuclear reactor, the uranium fuel decays which gives off gamma radiation that is used to heat water to create steam to move a turbine which (thanks to Tesla, btw) is converted to A/C using an A/C motor (going in reverse).

If the science of the E-Cat is correct, nickel plus a catalyst (perhaps palladium as Luke suggested) plus hydrogen is heated to an ignition temperature at which point the Nickel is converted to Copper. This 'alchemy' causes the release of gamma radiation which as mentioned above produces heat when the gamma radiation collides with heavy molecules. In the E-Cat, the gamma radiation most likely collides with a lead lined chamber which heats its up. The water is sandwhiched between the lead lining and the outer shell of the chamber and so it in turn is heated. The heated water exits as steam and is collected to keep the 'engine' running in a self-contained loop.

My heart is cheering for Rossi but my head is very skeptical. Time will tell.

This is interesting; Rossi's got solid competition from some Ozzies: Is Rossi's E-Cat Yesterday's News? Australian Company Claims to have a Working Fusion Reactor at Oil Price

One interviewee in a face-to-face conversation with the Kachan folks in a location abroad, told of a small company he’s involved with that he claims has built a working 1MW fusion reactor the size of a rice cooker.

The as yet unnamed company is now apparently in the process of building a 10MW version that it plans to trial in 2012.

The report on this company’s fusion reaction says it’s fuelled by deuterium and tritium at not nearly as high temperature as other efforts. Specifically, the reaction is said not to require the high temperature, high pressure or accelerated particles of others’ approaches.
(Meaning it's cheaper & easier to make.)

strategic investors are said to include family money, such as a Shanghai real estate baron and decedents of American industrialist John Pitcairn, Jr.

The inventor has been at the development since the 90s, sworn employees and investors not to let on how successful the research has been, and is said to have retained the former head of Israel’s counter terrorism unit as its chief of security.
The company is said to have already fielded a buyout attempt by General Electric. The inventor apparently didn’t want the invention owned by just one corporation, characterizing it as an invention for mankind, apparently.

The company is also said to be secretly working with the Australian Air Force and Navy, and the U.S. Department of Defense, and aims to trial a 10MW version of its reactor in 2012 with an Australian utility.

UPDATE:

Fuck yeah.

Someone at the Department of energy, an assistant in the department of science, is Stoked about LENR and Rossi's device but can't seem to muster much attention for it in his department. (Sounds like he hasn't been let in on the conspiracy yet.)

Check out his response to an inquiry about ECAT here:

More “Helpful” E-Mails from the DOE | e-Cat Site

He even says:
My change of mind was a direct result of talking with Dr. Dennis Bushnell, the Chief Scientist for NASA Langley who has assured me that over 100 experiments worldwide indicate that LENR is real, capable of producing energy much greater that chemical reactions, with minimal radiation, that theories indicate that what is happening is weak interactions, beta decay and NOT fusion of any kind. Frankly, it does not seem to me to matter what we call it if it works and Bushnell says it does work.

I have heard of the Langley experiments before, but not that they were so successful. This is getting a bit more exciting!

BTW, I checked the DOE guy out, he exists.

It wasn't about him being ahead of his time, it was more about his priorities. He lived for science, he didn't live to make money. He didn't care about money, as long as he was able to work on what he was passionate about he was the richest man on the planet in his mind.

If only he was smart enough to see that it would take money to bring all of his amazing visions to reality. I suspect autism.

Another Update:

Rossi is saying he's in talks with Home Depot for Home-unit distribution in AUGUST OF THIS YEAR for ~$1,500 US. They will also be produced in the USA totally, "Creating many jobs here."

Podcast interview with Rossi himself saying so:

http://www.coldfusionnow.org/audio/2011-12-29-Andrea-Rossi.mp3

Summary article breaking this news:

Home Depot eCat $1.5K? |

One thing I didn't enjoy hearing in that podcast is how Rossi sounds waaaaay to naive about how the power companies will respond. The interviewer told him point blank that he's going to cost the power companies "lots of revenue" and asked how he will respond... Rossi sounded a little surprised and said 'I don't think we will cost them much, our power and theirs will work in concert...'

I understand that he doesn't want to talk about any negative ramifications of his product during early launch stages and all, but that sounds so naive I really do have to worry for the man's sanity.

So again, it's either:

A. Total scam, not too surprising given his background. or
B. The second coming of Tesla.

If Rossi is Tesla reincarnate, this time they won't take it so easy on him...

I have a feeling that it is a scam but I also feel like humanity is due for the next huge breakthrough that will further our evolution and society. I want to believe this so bad it hurts but I am trying to remain neutral on the topic so I dont sound like some crazy fanboy (lukep).
