I love living in a 3rd world shithole.

I think that overqualifies as a house, looks more like a palace?

Exactly my point. That, or a 1bdrm condo in Vancouver?

I tell ya, sometimes these life decisions are just soooo difficult. What should I choose? I wonder...

down with that

I don't know, dude. I like my friends and family. Don't you feel lonely being far away from them?

The marvels of living in 3rd world countries when you have monies are huge. Everything is affordable: homes, taxes, bitches, justice (if you fuck up)...

If you can cope with living away from friends and family, go for it.

Nope, been a nomad since I was 15, so you get used to it. My family is spread out around Canada, so I wouldn't be living close anyway. Plus they're all busy with their own lives, families, kids, jobs, hobbies, etc. So living there would mean I see them 4 times a year instead of 1 or 2. Big deal. Same as when my parents were choosing where to retire. They decided not to live close to the family, and chose the best place for them instead, for the same reason.

I have no desire to reconnect with any of my childhood friends. Grew up in a small redneck oil town, left when I was 15, reconnected with my buddies a few times, and no desire to do so again. None of them "made it out" if that makes any sense, and are living the typical lifestyle. During the week work at the mill or plant, on the weekends get drunk, and go looking for fights / women. I know the type of lifestyle it provides, and it's not for me. I still have loads of them on Facebook, and just... you know, bragging about how many empty beer cans you have is cool when you're 19, but not when you're 33.

Then friendships that are a 1 or 2 years old? Sure, I miss them, but not enough to move back. Just make new friends at your new home. It's actually easier to make friends when you're living abroad anyway, because you both have that expat commonality to you.

So nope, I'm fine being an expat, and living abroad. As long as I have someone to share my life and this journey with, which I do, I'm good to go.

Been living away from home for about 5 months now.. living in the 3rd world too - Indonesia.. back in England I was paying $2.5k a month for my central London flat.. here im paying $500 (and thats expensive.. I could 1/3 that if I wanted to live cheap), living in a small hotel with a swimming pool, just across from the beach, surrounded by girls and surfing every morning...

and I'm saving $2k a month for the trouble of being here, I don't know why anyone who can work remotely lives in the West.. I'm not going back :)

(and internet is ok here.. not perfect, slower, but 95% connection rate and I manage my business fine)

cool...im headed to bali soon...good to know the inet is not terrible

With Indonesia do you mean Bali?

I spent a little while there.. its a bit intense, and some of it dirty... some beautiful tho... but now I actually spent nearly 4 months in Lombok.. its the next island along... people say it's like bali was 20 years ago... its less developed, but for sure its nice, and you can live a high standard... air con, nice room, fridge, swimming pool on your doorstep, beach 1 minute over the road

cool...im headed to bali soon...good to know the inet is not terrible

it can be difficult to start with... but with a bit of trial and error i have a good mobile broadboand connection now.. well a few of them actually.. can always find internet in nice restaurants and most places anyway

which hotel?

Hotel in Lombok, but stayed in the Jayakata in Legian beach in Kuta Bali before here.. tbh I dont like super luxury... im a 28yr old single guy.. if I stay in 5* then its just honeymooners, couples, older people... I prefer to live in mid-range places just for the atmosphere and social scene..

I'm an American in the Philippines and my life is much better here. That being said there are positives and negatives to both.

In the Philippines there is plenty of corruption and everything has it's price. There is plenty of poverty everywhere, but I live in the richest area of Manila. I would only live in Makati or Fort.

In both Thailand and the Philippines you can live amazing lives for under half the cost.

I love the Philippines, but plan to spend a little time in Thailand in the next year before I decide where to settle down at.

I miss some things about America, but I don't think I could ever live there permanently again.

I have my own web design/dev outsourcing team here and it wouldn't be possible to do the same thing back home.

I have internet thats great for working and streaming movies(10mbps)

I get massages weekly(no happy endings)

Go to a nice gym

Eat out whenever I want

Go to the beach whenever I want

and everything is much more affordable.

If my parents would move here I probably wouldn't go back to the US.

Never seen anyone throw Canada in that mix, most seem to love it there. In terms of rights in a third world country? I wouldn't bet on that.

I suppose you don't know any better..

Also, Canada.. really? The frozen tundra? No. fucking. thank you.

And yes, down here, where I am, you can do pretty much whatever you want.

It's sad and pathetic to see some of you guys shit on your home countries like that.

The reason you feel like you got such a big cock when you're in those 3rd world countries is PRECISELY because you carry a US/Canadian/Euro passport.

I'd like to see you renounce your citizenship and see how that works out for you in the 3rd world.

You'd cry like little sluts when you see how tough it is and you'll walk into your embassies begging for a reconsideration request. lol

TBH I think it's a farang price. It's way too expensive. Check out greenhillplace.com for the best apartment units in CM. They have the only salt water pool, also do have a sauna, they were working on building a gym, that was potentially actually would be nice, not the average condo gym. They also have a coffee shop and a convenience store on premises.

Planning to move shortly, so checking out rentals. Here's what you get for about $2300/month here:

Chiang Mai Real Estate - Houses for Rent in Chiang Mai

Or this:

Chiang Mai Real Estate - Houses for Rent in Chiang Mai

You get the idea. At the same time, you can rent a small, 1bdrm condo in rainy Vancouver for the same price. Nice condo, but very small. Gotta say, considering I can work from anywhere in the world, I think I'll stick with the 3rd world shit hole. :)
