I love living in a 3rd world shithole.

I too plan to move away too when I'm financially more stable, probably to South America, but you'll hear me proudly saying that I'm American and that I would have never been able to move here and enjoy this high standard of living if I was born in Guatemala! That's all.

From the sounds of it you've never lived outside your little box. If I'm asked I tell people where I was born, but it's fact not pride as you assume. Sure Canada has it's pluses, but so does Costa Rica, Panama, Brazil or Thailand. I went to public school in Costa Rica and I can tell you the level of education certainly isn't as horrible as you think dumb fuck. In fact I can get better education here for my kids than most kids can get in the US.

There are very wealthy people from these so called shit holes. After living half my life in Canada and half in Costa Rica, it was clear that Costa Rica was a better place to live. EVERYTHING I LEARNED was due to my experience in this country and learning shit on my own.

Your attitude is typical of the jackass morons I see down here all the time feeding on underage girls, prostitutes and drugs. Most of those types get taught a lesson or two because of their loud mouth arrogant personalities.

Tell you what don't move away. The US deserves you. While your at it, please keep digging this hole deeper.

Lol, EvilPenguin thinks every country outside US, Canada or Europe is some sort of dark ages country where peasents barely scrape by and all are illiterate. I'd rather hang out in Mexico City than Detroit lol.

You don't think there are any successful Guatemalans enjoying a high standard of living in the world?

Very few. (versus population ratio)

Because what you don't get is that being smart is NOT ENOUGH to succeed. Put a smart guy in Thailand or Canada. Where is he most likely to bank hard and eventually live the high life wherever he wants to go?

There are plenty of smart people in 3rd world countries bro, but they can't do shit because their gov doesn't give them the tools to succeed. I dated a Chinese chick and a Morroccan girl when I was in college (not at the same time lol I wish). Both were telling me that in order to start and operate a small biz in their countries you need to either be good buddies with high-ranked officials, or you need to suck cock and be good at it.

I've seen a documentary showing that Cuba had a high percentage of extremely smart people, yet they all still get 4 eggs, 3.5 potatoes per week and earn peanuts. Don't you think they would all want to start a business and move to a mansion in Chiang Mai? They sure do, but they can't because they're born in the wrong side of the world. Their gov isn't giving them the tools to succeed.

PS: Those accusing me of not traveling, lol you have no idea how wrong you are. That should be the topic of another thread though as I don't want to derail this one. All I can say is that I feel like a lot of you guys only experienced the "Expat lifestyl", living in luxury gated communities with other expats, hanging out in expensive restaurants and bars. Go live the local life, talk to local people and ask them how they feel about their country. You'll see the desperation in their eyes as they talk about everything they wish they could do but can't because their government is too busy fucking them every day.

Plenty of weed in Chiang Mai - if you get caught it's just a small bribe and you're on your way.

Loved Chiang Mai, let me know when you move and I'll come for a visit - I need to do some more massage schooling there anyway :). If I was to get a place there I'd also grab a place in Pai or thereabouts so I could have some cold nights during burning season.

Also LOL at everybody thinking that there isn't proper food/water here. I'm currently staying on a tropical island with amazing diving, great food, gorgeous women (both western and Thai) and I'm still spending less than $50 a day.

Just ate a bunch of king prawns on the beach and had a couple of local beers and it cost me less than $10.

You plebs keep living the good life in the western world.

Mind shooting me some information about where you're at?

Please hold while I turn on discovery channel and learn something new about the world.

LOL come the fuck on .... You seriously are the most ignorant person I've ever crossed paths with.

First I can tell you this. There is a ton of opportunity in these "Shit Hole" countries. People that are not creative enough to see it, great, please don't.

Second a documentary on CUBA. Wow, just wow! Now your just reaching.

What fucking courtries have you been to! Most of the people that I have met that went to the States and came back are much happier here.

You have ZERO clue of what locals in 3rd world countries are going through. A big zero.

You see life through your American passport (or whereever the fuck you're from)

Tons of opportunities in 3rd world countries? Of course there are, but the regular guy does not have access to them. They are open for government officials and high society crew. You think a regular John Smith (or Jose Hernandez in this case) in Cuba can just open a small business and start selling services/products to anyone? What planet are you from?

Oh wait a second, so what your saying is that everyone in america has the same opportunity to get rich? Even the people living in poverty?

I've stayed in places where you'd look up in the day and see spots of light coming through the ceiling and their bed frame was dirt, while the mattress was just a piece of foam. Poverty is poverty, it's the same everywhere. Sure lots of families here are stuck in that life. The states has areas that are just as bad and those families living there are in a worse situation than the ones here. Sure I live in a nice gated community, but guess who is the MAJORITY of the people living here; nationals, Colombians, Venezuelans, Brazilians, etc. There are a LOT of successful people outside of america box boy. Open your eyes and wake the fuck up.

Mods: Can we permanently change this twits, sub-title to "Box Boy", either that or ban him. Either way fine with me!

Third world country to me is the entirety of Africa, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Phillipines, Bolivia, Mexico seems to be getting there with some effort.

Thailand is not a third world country, but not fully developed and the Thai elite seems to prefer it that way. Thailand does in fact have excellent infrastructure, social security, government basic healthcare for all, loads of universities including the worlds largest (which is free for thais). It just isn't a third world country and is miles ahead of say the Philipines. If the Thai elite wanted they could easily turn the country prosperous within a decade or two, but they seem to prefer to have a large low income group to do cheap menial work. This is changing though with the red shirts and their political movement.

Let's not forget that wellfare state does not automatically equal quality of life. Even things like living in a warm, sunny country makes up for a lot of other benefits.

Yeah, "Third World" doesn't really apply to some countries like Thailand. That's why the term "developing country" works better. But I disagree with some of your other points.

Infrastructure is pretty weak except in a few major cities. The capital, Bangkok, gets the lion's share of spending on infrastructure while the rest of the country remains pretty poorly developed. Tourist destinations are well developed but elsewhere not so much. Then again, investment should follow demand so unless you want high taxes and costs so you can develop remote areas with low demand you can accept that the current condition reflects the market demand.

Thai universities are pathetic. By all international measures they fail. There is only one Thai university, Chulalongkorn, that has ever been rated in the world's top 400 by Financial Times. The style of teaching and a culture of cheating and buying degrees makes a degree from a Thai university worthless anywhere else in the world.

I think one of the biggest things that holds back the country is that the majority of the rural population of Thailand, like the 60% who live in Isaan, are third world in their thinking. I see it all the time and it's pretty frustrating at times when you have to deal with them. There's a strong cultural influence that teaches generation after generation to not value education, not invest in the future, take 100 baht today rather than invest for 1,000 baht tomorrow.

Yeah, the elite, what they call "country owners", call all the shots. So smart motivated Thais who aren't part of the club often can't get as far as they could otherwise. Kind of like a lot of countries, eh?

Nick, you're embarrassing us all by arguing with this tard...

I bet he took a weekend cruise and now tells everyone he meets that he's a 'World traveler.' I mean It really takes a special kind of retarded liberal to get the big picture quite that backwards. (And keep arguing, to boot!)

Not to mention, if he wants to move to South America, depending on country (lots to choose from though), before proudly claiming he's a superior American, he should probably read some history books first, lol

CluelessPenguin, that American passport has become a bit of a liability. Try opening a bank account in many countries now and you will be shown the door because you are a US citizen. And although many people in the world don't equate individuals with how their governments behave, there is growing hatred of Americans in general for the murderous behavior of the US government all around the world.

That US passport is no longer the asset you think it is.

FWIW, he's speaking the truth to an extent. I think he means that the Free Market society isn't as enforced as it is in the US. For example, if you want to open a night club or bar here, you'll have to pay the police a monthly retainer fee just so you don't get raided etc. Tim Ferris for example tried to open a gym franchise business in China and was shut down by triads.

The government is also extremely corrupt, i.e, You have to bribe them to get a tender/project. Two poor people, one living in US and the other one in some 3rd world country, the one living in the US would have WAY more opportunities of succeeding.

Fuck off. Seriously.

You think I don't know your type? I've seen plenty of guys like you while traveling in South and Central America.

When you hit the bars you're proud to tell bitches you're from Canada cuz you know that'll get you the pussy. When you apply for a high-paying job you're proud to say you're from Canada because you know that'll get you the job. When you're at the airport traveling somewhere you're proud to pull out your Canadian passport because you know you'll get through security with no hassle.

Then you gonna come here and tell us that Canada gave you nothing and you owe Canada nothing. Ungrateful prick.

Like I said, it's perfectly fine to move somewhere else for whatever reason. It's NOT fine to trash your home country and claim it gave you nothing. Get a Thai citizenship and you'll see the difference.

You really have no clue what you're talking about. I'm engaged to a great girl that I've been with for over 3 years (she's from Canada), and I am very happy. I don't need to go look for random girls at bars.

I don't need to "apply for a high paying job" because I'm my own boss of a "high paying job". You'd understand this if you actually made some money. In fact, if you knew any better - you'd know its next to impossible to find a "high paying job" in a foreign country, because most places limit the amount of foreigners even allowed to work at a business.

You need to get out there, experience life, other cultures, make some more money and stop pretending to know how the world works because you have no idea.

I know people just like you. You're the guy who goes to South America and "proudly lets everyone know you're American" only to get your ass kicked about an hour later because you pissed off the wrong person.

Good luck on your next trip south.

Why do you think you're successful at what you do? It's because you either studied or gained experience in Canada, where education quality and competition are top of the line. Don't shit on the hand that fed you.

Yes because you have a CANADIAN passport. Would you be able to live anywhere with a Thai or Indonesian passport? Again, don't shit on the hand that fed you.

Again, deciding to live somewhere else to enjoy a better life is cool, but then turning around and saying that your country sucks and that you would have to be an idiot to live there is a stupid and ignorant statement. You would never be where you are today without what your country (whether it be US, Canada or Europe) gave you.

US, Canada or Europe?

Europe isn't a country...

Ok, since you're all accusing me of shit that I'm not, here's the truth: I'm an immigrant. There. I said it. My whole family moved to California in 1996 from Lebanon. I didn't want to say it at first because I noticed there were a lot of racists in here, but fuck it, let them say what they want.

Back in Lebanon, my parents struggled to give us a good life (although both of them are doctors). My dad tried to start a business and within a few months he got fucked by a group of thugs (supposedly working for the government) that asked for 35% of his revenue in exchange for "protection". He refused, because it was unfair and because there was no way he could afford it anyways. Next thing you know the police were all over his ass, claiming that he owes millions in taxes even though he didn't. They made up all kinds of shit and forced him to close his business. He even received one death threat by mail.

Since we moved here, both my parents opened a clinic, my sister is now finishing her PhD and already has incredible job prospects in sight. I'm running a small online business. All these things would have never been possible back home. My story is the story of tons of immigrants here in the U.S... and at least I'm grateful for it. Grateful for all these opportunities.

So yeah, like I said, you guys really have no clue what life is like in 3rd world countries.

FWIW, he's speaking the truth to an extent. I think he means that the Free Market society isn't as enforced as it is in the US. This. Exactly. Finally someone that knows what they're talking about.

Have you been to any third world countries?
I've been to Cuba, Thailand, Bali and Dominican Republic and smart people with a little bit of business sense always succeed. I could give my own country - Bulgaria as an example, its a small third world country in eastern Europe but there are plenty of Rich People here who are multi milionaires...

No one's going to pick on you because you're a Lebanese immigrant. But no matter your background, you're still a liberal tard when it comes to governments.

More specifically though; we can clearly see that you have yourself a low set of standards. You were born into a shitty area, so this slightly less shitty area seems great to you.

Congratulations, you've moved from the 296th shittiest country to the 284th.

Countries like Thailand however, are in the top 10, and should NOT be compared to shitty countries in the 2nd percentile, like this one.

Back in Lebanon, my parents struggled to give us a good life (although both of them are doctors). My dad tried to start a business and within a few months he got fucked by a group of thugs (supposedly working for the government) that asked for 35% of his revenue in exchange for "protection". Can you name me a country that this kind of shit can't happen in though?

The corruption of different countries shows itself in different ways. In Lebanon, (old) Italy, and Tokyo, for instance, it would appear that the corruption is in mafia-like crimelords that have influence on the police. That's pretty shitty, I won't argue.

Meanwhile, in almost-equally-as-shitty USA, the corruption is at the very top; the mafia IS the POTUS, the senate, and the House of representatives... All owned by corporations that work every single day at removing our freedoms.

So whereas you escaped a tyranny that befalls a few citizen victims very harshly; You've moved to a tyranny that effects EVERY citizen a little less harshly.

You should set your sights higher and move somewhere that the tyranny doesn't effect so many OR so much.

Opportunities abound. I get it. But that's our system.

When it's the Government itself that is acting like the Mafia, they need you to start making money so they can take it all.

Just keep watching though. Once you guys get more successful you'll see the tax rates will rise as your freedoms continue drop rapidly. Once you hear: "Thanks for providing jobs and helping float the economy. Now, bend over." you'll yearn for better lands too and see that new blue passport as a ball and chain on your ankle.
