I love living in a 3rd world shithole.

The reason you feel like you got such a big cock when you're in those 3rd world countries is PRECISELY because you carry a US/Canadian/Euro passport.

We're successful at what we do, what we do isn't constrained by borders or local economies, and we can live anywhere in the world we choose. Where we're from has nothing to do with this. Holding a Canadian passport doesn't make me any more successful doing what I do and if I renounced my Canadian citizenship it wouldn't suddenly make me a pauper. That's just stupid.

A lot of the places we're living are hardly "third world". What I can get to live in here in Spain compared to Vancouver is ridiculous. I'm currently living in a villa on the Costa del Sol, 2 bedroom, 3 baths, office, 10 mb internet, dressing room, front yard with two huge mature palm trees, large tiled courtyard in the back with 10 foot high walls and sheltered outdoor dining area with tons of plants, grapevines, huge communal pool, tennis courts, gardener, close to shops and restaurants, 300+ days of sunshine a year... all for €750 a month. If you want to be slightly more rural you can get even more fantastic deals. I'm surrounded by modern amenities, marinas, and within an hour's drive of 60 or 70 golf courses. The local economy is in the crapper but that only makes it cheaper to live here.

So suck it.

....but where do you get your weed from?

Plenty of weed in Chiang Mai - if you get caught it's just a small bribe and you're on your way.

Loved Chiang Mai, let me know when you move and I'll come for a visit - I need to do some more massage schooling there anyway :). If I was to get a place there I'd also grab a place in Pai or thereabouts so I could have some cold nights during burning season.

Also LOL at everybody thinking that there isn't proper food/water here. I'm currently staying on a tropical island with amazing diving, great food, gorgeous women (both western and Thai) and I'm still spending less than $50 a day.

Just ate a bunch of king prawns on the beach and had a couple of local beers and it cost me less than $10.

You plebs keep living the good life in the western world.

Why do you think you're successful at what you do? It's because you either studied or gained experience in Canada, where education quality and competition are top of the line. Don't shit on the hand that fed you.

and we can live anywhere in the world we choose

Yes because you have a CANADIAN passport. Would you be able to live anywhere with a Thai or Indonesian passport? Again, don't shit on the hand that fed you.

Again, deciding to live somewhere else to enjoy a better life is cool, but then turning around and saying that your country sucks and that you would have to be an idiot to live there is a stupid and ignorant statement. You would never be where you are today without what your country (whether it be US, Canada or Europe) gave you.

You're such a dumbass. You really are. Do you even have any experience or are you just another retard? I lived 1/2 of my childhood in Costa Rica. The first computer I ever used, was a 286 in Costa Rica, not Canada. Since then I've taught myself everything I know about web design, computers, marketing, and build up my other skillsets. I learned to speak Spanish fluently by the time I was 7. I went to a typical broke ass public school (not private school).

Over the years I traveled back and forth from Costa Rica to Canada. I learned a lot living in Costa Rica especially about what life is *really* like. You probably have no idea, and live in a little bubble. But I don't blame you.. Like I said, you really simply don't know any better.

So fucking ignorant man. You should really just continue being a robot buying into the script that has been written for you by the government. Seems your much more comfortable with that.

We don't really give a flying fuck what someone living in Mommy and Daddy's basement says anyway. Good luck with that 'BOSS'

I went to school in Canada but I too taught myself everything I know about marketing and making websites. My clients are from everywhere else but Canada. I owe Canada very little for my accomplishments, but I'm not shitting on anyone.

My passport has no bearing on where I choose to live. Why should it? Anyone with the means to do so can live just about anywhere they want to in this world.

You would never be where you are today without what your country (whether it be US, Canada or Europe) gave you.

Yeah, because there aren't any successful people from any other places in the world but the US, Canada and Europe.

You do know the richest person in the world is Mexican right?

I don't think you're included in this thread, Gibraltar isn't a 3rd world country!

I don't think you're included in this thread, Gibraltar isn't a 3rd world country!

Neither are a lot of the other countries the people in this thread are living in or talking about living in. Parts of them might be, but then there are parts of the US and Canada that could be considered third world too.

I live in Spain btw, and my post was to simply illustrate that the cost of living in lots of other places with all the luxuries and amenities you would expect in the 1st world can be a hell of a lot cheaper than living in some of the top cities in North America.

Vancouver is regularly voted one of the best in the world to live in, but fuck me if it isn't expensive.

Third world country to me is the entirety of Africa, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Phillipines, Bolivia, Mexico seems to be getting there with some effort.

Thailand is not a third world country, but not fully developed and the Thai elite seems to prefer it that way. Thailand does in fact have excellent infrastructure, social security, government basic healthcare for all, loads of universities including the worlds largest (which is free for thais). It just isn't a third world country and is miles ahead of say the Philipines. If the Thai elite wanted they could easily turn the country prosperous within a decade or two, but they seem to prefer to have a large low income group to do cheap menial work. This is changing though with the red shirts and their political movement.

Let's not forget that wellfare state does not automatically equal quality of life. Even things like living in a warm, sunny country makes up for a lot of other benefits.

Fuck off. Seriously.

You think I don't know your type? I've seen plenty of guys like you while traveling in South and Central America.

When you hit the bars you're proud to tell bitches you're from Canada cuz you know that'll get you the pussy. When you apply for a high-paying job you're proud to say you're from Canada because you know that'll get you the job. When you're at the airport traveling somewhere you're proud to pull out your Canadian passport because you know you'll get through security with no hassle.

Then you gonna come here and tell us that Canada gave you nothing and you owe Canada nothing. Ungrateful prick.

Like I said, it's perfectly fine to move somewhere else for whatever reason. It's NOT fine to trash your home country and claim it gave you nothing. Get a Thai citizenship and you'll see the difference.

Lulz... LilPenguin, Please stop before you go too far.

Every one of us on this board who has traveled more than a vacation or two, and every single last one of us in the capitalism appreciation club (That may be all of us minus ChickenFucker) see right through your stupid, liberal, small-minded shenanigans.

I've never met HiGhPeR IRL nor have I talked to him extensively online... But I can easily tell that he's not the type of person you are thinking of at all.

A lot of the expats on here (and there are more than a few, I assure you) are laid back, comfortable, smart people who are usually overseas because the western governments have treated them unfairly.

As they do you too, but you don't seem to be smart enough to sense it.

They aren't hanging out at bars often or hitting up the chicks as much as you think; Many are married (like I am) and most live in very nice houses/condos/apartments that they likely wouldn't afford back in the west... And live far, far nicer there than they would be able to elsewhere.

I know when I'm in Bangkok I live a lavish lifestyle that I honestly could not buy at any price here in the US. I honestly could not pay a million dollars a month to duplicate the life here that I have over there for a couple thou a month. Good stuff just isn't available here.

Basically, these people realize that the USA, Canada, and even England are the third world countries, and their standards are simply higher than that.

Peasant.

It's sad and pathetic to see some of you guys shit on your home countries like that.

We all made a decision to go at it alone instead of having the stability of a job, busted our ass for years, taught ourselves the necessary skills to earn our own money, and are now enjoying the fruits of all those 16 hour days. Why would you look down on someone for that?

And do you have any idea of how many millions of Canadians would give their left nut to be able to do what many on this forum do? There's millions who have a good paying job at say $200k/year, and a house in the sub-burbs, so they have to drive 1 hour to/from work each way every day. Then sit in an office, while being forced to put up with people they don't like, as everyone argues amongst themselves during meetings, tries to take credit for your work, etc.

They live in a quiet depression / desperation swimming in debt, feeling like a slave to "the man". However, they do it to provide for their kids, and keep their wife on their back. The majority would have absolutely no issue with turning their back on Canada, if that means they can throw a laptop and some clothes in a bag, hang out on a beach in Asia, South America, or Southern Europe somewhere, still make good coin, and have total freedom over their lives.

Canada is a great country and all, and it's great having a Canadian passport because it makes immigration easier, but why would I live there? So I can struggle every day, and be surrounded by people who are also stressed out and struggling every day? That doesn't make any sense. Plus, Western economies have peaked for now, and are now on the decline. Don't expect that to turn around for probably 20 years.

I'm with you on everything you said! I'm responding only to you (and not to any of the nuttbags that answered me above you) because at least I sense that you have some respect for your country and what it gave you.

It makes me angry when I see expats saying "Fuck the U.S.", "Fuck Canada", "Fuck the U.K." to locals, acting like being Thai or Dominican is SO MUCH better than being American or Canadian, when they're clearly reaping the benefits of having been born and raised in a western country, having had access to advanced education and having worked in high tech & competitive environments.

I too plan to move away too when I'm financially more stable, probably to South America, but you'll hear me proudly saying that I'm American and that I would have never been able to move here and enjoy this high standard of living if I was born in Guatemala! That's all.

Blah blah... you'll hear me proudly saying that I'm American and that I would have never been able to move here and enjoy this high standard of living if I was born in Guatemala!

FFS, you're like an athlete that thanks god for all their accomplishments, never mind the countless hours training and personal sacrifice they've made to get where they're at. No, instead it's "thank fucking Jesus for letting me win that race!"

Seriously, success in life isn't relative to where you were born. Being Canadian doesn't give you some golden ticket. You don't think there are any successful Guatemalans enjoying a high standard of living in the world? Likewise, how many deadbeat Canadians are never going to make anything of their lives and never venture out of whatever shithole suburb they live in?

I'd love to be the fly on the wall while you're loudly proclaiming your Americaness and touting your mad superiority complex to the obviously inferior locals in whatever South American country you wind up in. Good luck with that you arrogant prick.

but you'll hear me proudly saying that I'm American and that I would have never been able to move here and enjoy this high standard of living if I was born in Guatemala!

I'm with Fatbat on this. You obviously haven't traveled much, because I wouldn't recommend proudly proclaiming you're American. All that's going to accomplish is putting you 6 feet in the ground, or in the hospital.

Go travel a bit, because I don't think you have a clue about the world out there.
