What movies you watching

This was a pretty cool movie that was on Netflix a while back (but no longer, at least in US)

Gotta include L4yer Cake when talking about Brit crime movies:

I also enjoyed the two Rampages:

Fuck I'm so tired of seeing vampire movies. I won't even watch them anymore, but just seeing how many that are pumped out is irksome at how truly out of ideas Hollywood is.

"Out of ideas" is not why they make so many of them. It's because they have a built-in audience for vampire films and know the move will at least not bankrupt them if they make it.

But yeah, I agree with you about there being too many. That goes double for zombie TV shows/films.

Vanilla Sky. My favourite of all times. I was like high in 2001 when I was coming out of the cinema when I first saw it.

Just saw Whiplash, was awesome. I'm a huge JK Simmons fan too.

I think the director was trying to put it in a gray area whether it was all worth it or not. The main character had a lot of ups and downs. Where he ended up is not exactly positive, and there's no closure.

Personally, I think it was still positive. Anyone who has started their own business and really cracked hard at it definitely feels they have to sacrifice a lot. The protagonist had a clear goal to prove to everyone that he was the best/going druto be the best and to be respected. I almost viewed JK Simmons role more so as the protagonist's inner thoughts/jazz music and how it was beating him up.

I also agree with the methods of negative reinforcement for people really pushing themselves. So this movie was right up my alley.

The Grand Budapest Hotel is next on my playlist, then probably Whiplash. Also have the Steven Hawking one ready to watch. Watched Birdman last night. All Oscars related. Birdman was good, great visually, but really a bit up it's own arse, will never watch again. I know The Grand Budapest Hotel will be good as his always are. For me Interstellar was easily the best thing I saw in 2014 (walked out of the cinema a mess).

Will also check out Nightcrawler. Torn about whether to watch The Crew as it only gets 6 on IMDb but looks like my kind of film, it is not on my torrent site so forget it.

As mentioned in the OP Crank is always a great fun watch, and the second one. The Good Guys is worthy of repeat watches and I have just seen a poster for a new Will Ferrell one with that short black comedian, might of been called Hard On? I love all Will Ferrell movies.

Saw The Equalizer which was excellent as expected. Also saw What We Do In The Shadows which is second only to Shaun of the Dead when it comes to funny zombie films. It is not like a normal zombie film for those complaining, it is hilarious.

Thanks for whoever warned us off Louie CK’s latest. I have that too but not got round to it yet because his last one was so shit (talking about poo for ages?), so will avoid that shit for now.

Whoever recommended Shawshank Redemption as a “movie you might not know” must have an IQ of 7.

As some have added TV shows; Currently airing ones worth watching:

1. Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia (the best comedy ever, period, possibly best TV show ever too)
2. Real Time (the only talk show I watch)
3. Vice (the only news show I watch)
4. Workaholics (the last episode was one of the best with Jack Black guesting, hopefully he does a Danny DeVito in Its Always Sunny and sticks around)
5. The Mentalist (I think the season just finished but I have the last few episodes to catch up on, successfully re-invented itself into a fresh version which it needed)

I forgot how good this movie was until I caught it on cable awhile ago. Minimilistic, stylistic cult film.

Opted for Whiplash last night. Good stuff, could of been a touch shorter.

Grand Budapest Hotel tonight and the weekends UFC which means both guaranteed quality watches as I love watching people kick the shit out of each other and I love Wes Anderson's unique, quirky, stylish comedies.

Also watched the James Brown movie and the new documentaruy recently. Both brilliant, he is the man.

Well it's a mockumentary and it was fuckin hilarious, definitely not from Hollywood.

This film takes all of the worst nightmares of musicians and throws them together.

When he put down the sheet music folder, I was like "NOOOO pick that shit back up dumb ass". Even if you really know it, playing without it the first time can be nerve-wracking. So is sight-reading, where someone gives you a new piece and gives you 1 or 2 minutes to look it over before playing. I've had to do that before; it's a standard part of an audition, and they will often give you things with exotic key or time signatures.

Having a director who will switch 1st and 2nd chairs on a whim is also very stressful. I never had that, but pretty much any director I had has at some point thrown something across the room. Never at me though, LOL.

Some great movies have already been shared, but I am surprised no one has mentioned Interstellar yet. It is one of the best sci fi films I have seen in a VERY long time.

Another good sci fi film is Primer. Low budget, but a well thought out ultra-low budget time travel movie.

For TV, a lot of great shows have been mentioned, but I wanted to add:
The Knick
Fortitude
Kingdom
Marco Polo
I discovered Hell on Wheels only recently. Great show with a few seasons under its belt.

I mentioned Interstellar:

"For me Interstellar was easily the best thing I saw in 2014 (walked out of the cinema a mess)."

Was actually holding back tears and had to go to bathroom just to collect myself. Best cinematic experience since Avatar in 3D. Just gutted I didn't watch it on IMAX, which is how it was supposed to be watched. The picture quality wasn't good for the indoor scenes on earth at my normal cinema.

Ridiculous that it wasn't up for best picture, but a friend pointed out it is all over 60s guys in the industry who vote for the Oscars, hence the reason an arty film about a washed up actor won. It was good but I recon Interstellar will be the only one mentioned in 30 years. I know I will watch it many times and will never think about Birdman again.

Fortitude. not a movie, but a TV series I recently came across. so far there's been 6 episodes.

Yea so I saw both Interstellar, Whiplash (review above), and The Equalizer over the weekend.

Equalizer = Ok action flick, indestructible Denzel. Compared to John Wick though - another just action flick for 2014 - I like John Wick better.

Interstellar = Amazing movie, but I still prefer Whiplash for the plot - just right up my alley. Interstellar though I could barely work while watching it, I was extremely tuned in.

Some really good ones have come out recently:

Whiplash
A Walk Among the Tombstones (surprisingly good)
God's Pocket
The Drop
Nightcrawler
The Gambler w/ Mark Wahlberg (no idea why no one is talking about this. Movie was phenomenal.)

Been trying to watch The Grand Budapest Hotel but it sends me to sleep every night. Great for insomniacs. Lasted me 3 nights so far, I think I will just keep using it as a sleep aid. It is visually very nice so its very easy to watch, but really it is about nothing, so its easy to tune off.

I forgot to mention Better Call Saul. It is not Breaking Bad but it is made by the same guys in the same place with Saul and the tough old guy is gradually getting into it more. Good stuff, more light hearted.

Vice starts up proper on Friday, their cancer special was awesome. I literally don't watch any other news ever (last time watched TV news was the Egypt revolution years ago).

What the fuck is with women headlining UFC? It will take me a while to adjust to that. Next few headliners sound very good though.
