Standing Desk?

WORTH READING:

Been using standing desk for about 6 months on and off. The reason for me isn't productiveness as much as it is health benefits. Sitting slowly kills you and I've already had a taste of that. I started having intestinal issues because I was sitting all day(sitting puts your intestines in an awkward position). I got fat(still am), my core muscles have lost all muscle tone and my bone density has decreased so much that I can't even run without having pain in my knees and shins. My spine is fucked up, I have to constantly fix my posture now. While sitting, I used to lean on my elbows a lot and thus developed carpal tunnel syndrome and the nerves are now almost totally healed after I started standing @ my desk. Sitting is a resting position and this totally fucks up your heart and is a highway to cardiovascular diseases(I can't even climb the stairs anymore without being winded). Your heart is supposed to work all day and rest at night, not rest 24/7.

Those are some of the health issues I started having. I used to be a very healthy guy before I got into IM, working out at least 6 days a week and being physically active in general and hence notice those hazards. Maybe those of you, that have been fat, unhealthy and physically inactive all your life, don't notice those health issues so much. Maybe you're just too stupid to understand. If you have a problem with standing desks then eat shit and die.

A few notes to those just starting out: Your legs are gonna be really uncomfortable for the first few weeks. Especially soles of the foot. Get some cushion under your feet. Sit a maximum 3 hours per day, preferably not at the computer. Hang in there, you'll be much healthier and you're even gonna burn a couple more calories, lol.

kind of sounds like you're projecting a whole host of problems caused by an unhealthy lifestyle on the simple act of sitting down...

When I visited the US branch of company I did my placement year at (Internship) they all had those fancy electronically adjustable desks whereas our desks in England were just fixed height chair set ups. After using it for a few days I have to say they're pretty cool and definitely offer up a slight variation in your normal slumping routine which can increase your concentration. You know, mixing things up and that.

The biggest problem for the home environment is the cost of one of these desks and if you're from the UK space issues, perhaps. Still, one day...

GET ONE!

I love my standing desk. It allows me to sit or stand depending on how I feel that day.

Holy chit. I abandoned this thought and started working out instead. Wow. So my two hours of gym won't comPensate for my 12 hours on my bums huh

Yeah, they only talk about 5-6 hours a day of sitting... if only they knew how sitting many hours we IMers put in... they'd tell us to start shopping for a nice gravestone.

I actually ended up buying a standing desk because of this thread. It's right next to my main (sitting) desk. I'm able to do 2-3 hours a day standing right now but then I feel the need to sit down for the rest of the day, not so much because I feel tired, but more because I feel like I can focus better sitting down... I guess I have to force myself to do more hours standing, maybe I'll get used to it and eventually.

I really would like one of those chairs they were going to put on the airlines awhile ago. Otherwise I just stand up and take a break every hour or so. Standing for long periods of time really does a number on my lower back if I'm not moving around adjusting my feet.

That's so cool! I would love to try that. sitting all through out the day is not good for our health. So that's a good idea or maybe a standing desk but how long i can do that a day? Thinking that kind of position makes me lazy to do it. lol

Can't standing for long periods of time also have a negative effect on your physical health if done incorrectly? This standing desk idea intrigues me though.

wonder how much its going to cost for this table and wonder amazon commission we can make as seller of this kind of table.
