Am I right in thinking that Adsense shouldn't be used on autoblogs period? What do the other ad networks (ie ones ubaidabcd posted above) think of adult content etc?

That's the conclusion I have come to. Save Adsense for your white hat sites, or at least sites where you control the content. No sense getting banned for a post about porn or something else "bad".

Hey,
I'm slowly rolling out a wpmu install and am using adsense (I have read what SEO mike and others have said above about adsense but I reckon my content is pretty unlikely to contain anything dodgy so going to give it a shot).

My question is - can you re-use the same adsense code in multiple places on a single page?

I am planning to place adsense code directly into my WP index.php file so that when I upload the theme file the adsense code will appear by default on all of my blogs under a wpmu install. I want to have three adsense blocks - one at the bottom of each of the first three posts. Do I have to get new code for each one or can I just get one lot of adsense code and use it three times?

If you want to place the code in a specific spot on your WPMU pages, edit the template(s) you will be using, by modifying their code. You'll have to do it the old fashioned way: edit the source code, then FTP the changed file to your server.

Warning!!!! Not autoblog related content ahead!!!

It's kind of strange, but everyone jumped on the autoblog bandwagon like a bunch of alcoholics on a bottle of MD 20/20.

For those of you looking for something different, I've mentioned Squidoo before, but I'm not sure anyone was paying attention. Squidoo.com allows you to create a "lens" about whatever you want. They handle the monetization, and you get a cut of it. There are a couple things about Squidoo that really rock:
  1. It's free! No domain to purchase, no hosting to worry about. Totally free.
  2. It is a well respected site, and as such gets new pages indexed very quickly and they usually rank well.
  3. Don't worry about where to put your ads, Squidoo does this all for you. Sure you have to split the profits with them, but you have absolutely ZERO overhead, so quit yer bitchin'.
  4. You control the content and modules on your page. Want to fill it up with more advertising? Add some Amazon modules. Want more content? Add another text module. It's up to you.
  5. Get 'Lens of the Day' and you could see a nice spike in traffic, both to your Lens and any of your sites linked from your lens.
  6. The links are NOT "No Follow" like a lot of blogs and Wiki-nazi-pedia.
  7. Create as many lenses as you like. There's no limit.
Need an example? Here's one I made in about 30 minutes to compliment my Soulja Boy Dance blog: Crank That Soulja Boy on Squidoo

Regardless of whether or not you're an auto-blogger now, check out Squidoo. If nothing else, it can help you SEO-wise.

/edit/ if you have a Squidoo account, do me a favor and give it 5 stars when you visit ;) I'll do the same for your lens

SEO_Mike thanks for the reply. What is was trying to get at, though, was do I have to go to Google three separate times, get some ad unit code and paste it into the template file each time (one for the end of each post), or can I just go to Google once and paste the same code three times?

Basically, does Google care if you re-use adsense code? Will they still give you the revenue?

Adengage is all adult content, and I think 3fn also always adult content.

I'm not sure which advertiser to go with, I applied to Kontera a week ago and haven't heard from them. I don't want to choose a network that has a shortage of advertisers/ads I want ads to be displayed contionusly. I think adbrite has some kind statement saying, "If there aren't any ads available to displya, what would you like in place?". I don't want to work with a network like that. Maybe I can rotate through different ad networks, there's a WP adsense plug-in that allows that. 10 Best Wordpress Plugins for Google Adsense

edit: here's the link to that plug-in if anybody is interested: WordPress Plugin: AdRotator - Ad Rotating Solution for your Ads (including AdSense, Clicksor, Chitika etc.)

Smashed, I've done what you're describing before and have gotten paid for it, but it sucks for determining exactly which ad is being clicked because you can't accurately track which ad unit is being clicked.

Thanks for the squidoo ideas Mike, it might be useful to promote the sites I already have going...

Why not setup an ad server to use across all your sites? If your smart about setting things up you can quickly change ads across all your sites with just a few clicks.

The free one I use is at openads.org

Pretty easy to setup and use.

@seo_mike and ubaidabcd: thanks for the heads up about adsense.

I feel so slow at getting into this game, I'm still waiting for my new MFA domain to propogate - should have sorted that out last week. I think once I start seeing the pennies trickle in I'll have much more drive for this. I'm only doing about 5 hours a day on internet marketing, rest of the time on offline jobs - grrrrrrr.

Yeah I heard good stuff about openads and I've downloaded it but still haven't had the chance to install it and play around with it.

I played with Openads on one of my sites. But it wasn't much of a grueling test, just rotating my sponsors ads on 5 pages.

It is pretty easy to use once you find your way around.

Much like a woman in that respect......

Since I read a bit on outsourcing in this thread, I think I should point you guys to some guy on DP selling his service ... here's the thread...
[Checkout] Turn your Spare Domains into Money Generating Machines.

Sounds like a good service, as compared to the price he's asking ....

On another note, Stumbles actually work in getting you some kickass quick traffic.

Hey folks,

I've been lurking and shooting people PM's as I get started. Thanks for the thread, SEOmike, like other have said, it was a needed shot in the arm.

I can't seem to find the answer to my question in any of the related threads, sorry if you've already been asked.

Does wp-o-matic attempt to pin trackbacks to posts that it scrapes?
I read that someone mentioned wp-autoblog does, but I can't seem to find a way to limit the number of posts it fires out. I don't want to run this project as a cycle site.

If wp-omatic doesn't pin trackbacks, and if wp-autoblog can't be limited, does anyone have any suggestions for plugins that do both of these?

Cheers
