n00bie Challenge

On another note (new post different note :)) some updates on the site I'm using for this example.

I'm up to about 100 unique per day now just from submitting various videos to various related sites. You know the whole take a video embed your site URL and re-upload.

It didn't take me all that long to gain 100 unique considering I started this late and was out of a internet connection last week. (I should have kept a time frame a bit better so I know how long it actually took to get that 100 unique).

I've also been getting an ok CTR for the banners on my site, I might cheat a bit and push about 30 to 50 bucks in PPC for a bit of a boost.

The site is also now indexed in the big G, last I checked there were about 28 pages indexed and here are the keywords (According to Google webmaster tools) that I'm currently ranking for.

Cute Sexy Women - #2
Sexy Nicole Stripping - #4
Sexy Women Stripping - #15
Women Stripping On Cam - #7
camgirl stripping - #10
cute sexy booty - #4

And a bunch of other terms, all this was done in well under a month at most 2 weeks tops, however I'm still waiting to get ranked for my main term which should garner me some good traffic, I've just got to push the backlinks some more and see what happens.

I'm back at square one again with income. Since my Blogs all died when i changed hosting i've had to start everything from scratch (bye bye $15 - $20 days! Oh how i miss you!)

But its all good, Psychoul and I have joined force and we are rocking the shit out of the Autoblog world.

I'm gonna take some time to work on hand built autoblogs though, instead of automating alot of it.

i.e. video blog, game review blog. Make it more appealing to the visitor and aim for far more return visitors than we get now. (Although you can't argue with 4842 uniques in the first week of our blog empire being live.)

What should we try next? Answers on a postcard.......
 
One more question about wpmu and domains and then I promise I will stop (for today :) ). What do you have on the index page of your main domain if you have a whole bunch of random subdomains, none of which would tie together well? I guess you could do it like mike's Welcome to X7G.net (hey dude where's the love? you locked us out!!). And then my question would be can you disable the "create a new blog?" so that other random people aren't creating blogs?

Is there a better alternative for the main domain when using wpmu?
 
You could also do a hosted search engine for your subdomain blogs.

Having a hard time finding an adsense ready wp blog. I found one "problogger-clean", but I can't the ads to display so I made a post in the design/coding forum, but in the meantime I'm trying to look for something else. Any suggestions? I'm also looking for something clean, simple and plain without much graphics, headers, etc..

Oh...I guess did. My bad. Sorry bout that, I'll have to post a list of blogs I have running on it.

Something that I've learned from that install and the autoblogs, BE CAREFUL which topics you put Adsense on. I had Adsense set to show up on every single new blog I put up there, until I started checking some of the posts coming in. Seemingly innocent niches can get you in serious trouble with the big G. For example: Naruto. Run that through Wordtracker and you'll see what I mean. Pretty much any cartoon. Family Guy, Simpsons, et al.

So, I took Adsense off of the WPMU.

On another note. Soulja Boy Dance Videos is #16 for Soulja Boy Dance and is moving up. That term gets 994 daily searches according to WT and the site is getting over 100 pageviews per day. That site, BTW, uses ViScript, and nothing else. Recently I noticed that all the YouTube vids aren't showing, so I'm digging into that.

Paris Hilton consistently has the highest CTR. People seem to like to click on the 468x60 banner at the top. Not sure why. Unfortunately, it's also the lowest paying one in my network. Averaging about $0.03 per click. Had a really high paying click from there the other day... $0.07!!! Wow!

Here's a plugin for Adsense: View attachment adsense-deluxe.zip

With it you can put Adsense anywhere you want in a post, or add it to one of your WP files permanantly.

Wordpress theme: MW - Monetizing the Web - Javier García

It has 4 files in the theme directory where you add your adsense information.
ad1 is long and skinny horizontal
ad2,3,4 are 468 wide.

It has some extremely basic color options.
 
Is there a way to give credit to the original author of the blog post? Right now mine says, "written by admin", I removed that part. Now all it has is, "read more of this great article here".

Are you tracking stats on the wpmu installation via a plugin or using something else? I had to disable firestats on my autoblogs because I ran into a concurrent connection limit on my hosted account. Do you have a suggestion for less-database intensive methods? :)

Sorry I'm not sure what you mean, I looked up "naruto" in wordtracker (I don't have WT I used the free trial) and can't see what you're referring to, are you talking about staying away from trademark stuff? Or would those keywords bring up stuff for bit-torrent and illegal downloads?
 
Just a tip I figured out with Wordpress MU that I figured would suit this thread until I do a full write up on how to install MU.

If your running GoDaddy on a shared host you CANNOT use the MU sub-domains but you can use the Sub-Directories.

MU apparently requires you to set up your wildcard DNS which isn't an issue but you've also got to set up your httpd.config file which with GoDaddy you don't have access too and even if you ask them to set up that file they will not do it so your shit out of luck.

Please correct me if I'm wrong on that and someone did managed to make the sub-domains work on a GoDaddy shared hosting account.
 
Does anybody know why my adsense ads aren't related to my content/feeds? I'm getting ads related to outsourcing. Ofcourse I don't have a domain yet, I'm using an IP address. Is this the reason? Does adsense look at your domain more than your content?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Clarity doesn't seem to be my strong point lately. Lately I've been bopping in here, checking the thread, making a post or two and right back out. Someone else had the same question and PM'd it to me:

Actually it should be ANY autoblog, you need to be careful if you're going to put Adsense on the page. Since you don't control the content, there is a very good chance that something will slip through that violates G**gle's TOS.

What I was seeing with the Naruto blog was a lot of posts about "Naruto Hentai", and other pornographic stuff. That's when I realized "Oh shit, I have no control over what is posted since it's all automatic". Unless you want to babysit your autoblogs (which defeats the purpose) avoid using Adsense to monetize them.

Okay, obviously I'm too lazy to highlight all the bad terms, but you get the idea. Notice that after "Naruto" the two most searched terms are sex related. So, if you are pulling feeds for the keyword "naruto", you're most likely going to get a fair (lot of) number of porn posts. If G notices, bye bye Adsense account.

So, to reiterate, avoid using Adsense on your autoblogs, unless you are absolutely sure that they won't pull up anything against G**gle's TOS.
