I was gonna start a new thread, because over the last few weeks I've been getting more and more pleased with my Mac. Plus I knew it would descend into a fanboi vs fanboi pissing contest anyway, so why not carry one on?!
Right, I've only been a Mac owner for about 18 months or so, maybe more, maybe less, I'm not entirely sure.
First I hate Apple. HATE Apple. I also hate MS, so don't worry fanboys, I hate them both.
I don't own an iPhone (never will), don't own an iPod, iPad or anything by Apple apart from my MacBook.
I bought it because I was not going to be forced into a new "better OS" (Vista/7), after using XP, just because I wanted a better computer.
So I worried about software. Damn I have to get the adobe suite and what not, I thought. I researched software and felt I could find everything for the Mac that I used on XP. So enough deliberation, I took the plunge and moved.
It took me a few weeks to get going:
"What programs are open?"
"Why do they seem to stay open when I click the X?"
"What's this menu bar all about?"
"How do I edit the registry?"
"How do forward delete?"
"Where's the hash key?"
Eventually I just learned most the shortcuts and got the super wonderful Quicksilver. Because of QS I then made the dock tiny and had it auto-hide. cmd+space ftw.
Then I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Nice. Slightly quicker, smaller footprint, scrolling has momentum like an iPhone and I can use 3 fingers to drag and drop.
Then I went on a software buying spree, became more adventurous and this is where my conversion started becoming a bit fanboy like! I was thinking the other day, that as of late, I simply couldn't go back to windows, because this software would be too much. I really couldn't live without it.
I was recommended Launchbar 5 instead of Quicksilver and was told even the Quicksilver developer recommends it. (He does)
The programs is so good it still makes me wet. It's like Quicksilver on crack and has too many functions to list, some are gimicky and some are fucking brilliant.

Then I discovered Art Text. Now, I'm not a Photoshop user, I've lived and breathed Fireworks from the year dot and have barely touched PS. I don't do photos and if I do graphics it's for the 'net. Hence Fireworks.
Anyway, this little program caught my eye and it's now essential. I can create buttons, text, icons, and fiddly shit in seconds. It's not just a time saver, but the way it works solves lots of problems. It saves to most file types (including pdf - default) so allows everything to also go straight to print. I adore this program. I find myself playing with it when bored it's so good!

I later discovered Pixelmator. This was from a friend's recommendation. He's like Mr Photoshop and seems to think if you have a computer with Photoshop and a decent notepad on it, you can control the world. I don't agree, but then I don't know it.
So, I bought it. I don't really know how to describe it (because I don't use PS) but it's like an easy PS - I imagine! Now I know easy for most means Fisherprice and Toys 'r Us, because afterall that's the bestest insult a Windows user has, but it's just incredible.
I love the interface, the functions and the way it seems to do everything I could ever want from a photo editing program and at the cost of a night out. I opened it and accomplished things that used to take me ages in mere moments. For me this was like someone had turned a light on in a dark room.

I also purchased Flux. For those that haven't heard of this it's like Dreamweaver. Well it's like Dreamweaver should be. I write, or did write, standards compliant code. Dreamweaver used to make me want to kill.
Editors like DW didn't speed up my work, they slowed it down. I'd get stuck trying to do something and just go to code view. That's of course if I wasn't working in Notepad++ in the first place.
So, I do have CS5 on my Mac, but bought this after being told it makes DW look a bit, urhm, shit. And it does I believe. To be fair I haven't even opened DW since upgrading to Snow Leopard and moving to CS5, so it could be everything Flux is. The code it creates is nice, the way it works is dreamy and it supports HTML5 and is standards compliant.
To be completely honest though I can't stand writing HTML anymore and barely edit web stuff in a Wysiwyg editor, so I can't hand on heart say it's the best thing since sliced bread, because, well, I don't eat sliced bread.

Obviously I could continue to wax lyrical about software and talk about the virtues of some of the great productivity shit I've discovered, Vitamin-R, SelfControl, Concentrate, Lumina, Things, The Hitlist, but that's stupid.
I really just wanted to sound off this Saturday, while I drank my coffee, about how, as an anti-fanboi and Apple hater, I would now find the move back to Windows too painful to contemplate. And, as I hope I made clear, this is not completely down to the "retardedly simple OS" (Who actually wants a more complicated OS?) but some of the absolutely cock achingly good software I've had the fortune to have used.
