Luke's 4K post: How to GTFO! (And into Thailand)

Damn my whole argument is forfeit now because of my grammar.

Your argument became invalid a while ago when it became obvious you have never lived in both the US and Thailand and all you are doing is referencing stuff you have seen on the internet. You will notice that there is a very big difference between the views of posters who have lived in both places (Luke, Kiopa, onkel, me) and those who haven't. We have all read the same stuff on the internet (proxy/vpn as needed) and compare it to reality on the ground in Thailand.

But again, I'm so glad most people don't want to move here. So please keep up the good work.

The only argument you have working for you is that Thailand is cheap. Nobody is doubting that, But to say thailand is more "free" than the US is a joke.

Luke created this thread because he hit another 1,000 posts in 2 months so his next great 1,000 post idea is to create a thread about every AM's dream paradise, thailand. Where its cheap, you get to bang all the lady boys you want, and sit on a beach all day. That's fine some people enjoy that.

But telling people it's more free than the US is delusional. And i've yet to see any arguments that say otherwise.

So give me 10 things that make thailand so free that you can't do in the states?

The only argument you have working for you is that Thailand is cheap.

That right there is a good example of why you don't know what you are talking about. Thailand is not cheap. Most purchases you make in a *normal* lifestyle are more expensive in Thailand than the US. Land, car, electronics, household appliances, western food, drinks are all more expensive often by a factor of 2x to 3x. Sure, you can live like a peasant for very cheap but we aren't talking about that in this thread. That's not why I live here.

The ladyboy comments are also another tip off that much of your info comes from surfing porn sites. They have them here and it is very open. You see them in lots of TV shows. Otherwise unless you are into that kind of thing or spend your time at prostituion venues you don't see it much. I'm not into that sort of thing but I do recognize the masterful skills of Thai cosmetic surgeons. For example ปอย who is one of the more famouse ladyboys has appeared on TV and in commercials.

That was born as a boy. So if you are into ladyboys then you will like it here. Maybe that's your thing, not mine and not why I have lived here for 10 years.

As for your "give me 10 things" request. Let's just pretend I did and then you can toddle along. There's nothing quite like first hand experience anyway.

I strongly doubt this is true for anywhere in the US that's worth living but I have no dog in this fight so I'm certainly not going to argue about it.

But seriously...I'd be very surprised if this were true.

You mean the land price, right? You'd be surprised. Where I live which is two hours northeast of Bangkok the land prices are US$250,000 per acre. That is not for undeeded land in the jungle. That is for undeveloped land with a proper title that has road, water and power coming to it. But no house or anything else. That's not in some fancy gated community, just a nice area that is popular with Thais who build second homes. Places where foreigners buy are usually higher due to the "farang" price versus the Thai price. I can buy land in the US with similar characteristics for a lot less than that. You can find cheap land in Thailand mostly in places you probably don't want to live.

I don't doubt that there's expensive real estate there. But you made a pretty bold statement with this:

Most purchases you make in a *normal* lifestyle are more expensive in Thailand than the US. Land, car, electronics, household appliances, western food, drinks are all more expensive often by a factor of 2x to 3x.

There's no real apples-to-apples way to compare RE in the US to Thailand, though. So I'll just take your word for it since you seem pretty adamant and other than mild skepticism, I'm pretty apathetic.

Good to hear you like it there, though. I may visit one day but definitely couldn't live there since I'm one of those weird people that like where I live in the US.

Then if its not cheap, that killed your entire argument why anyone would want to go to thailand over any other place.

Btw wasn't it brought up that foreigners can't buy land. So who cares if the land prices are high nobody can buy land and nobody here wanted to buy land. They want to live in pent houses or rent a place on the beach.

So your above point is moot.

as for this:

Most purchases you make in a *normal* lifestyle are more expensive in Thailand than the US. Land, car, electronics, household appliances, western food, drinks

A car? Don't think anyone here wants to drive on thailand roads.

electronics? I find that hard to believe seeing how your surrounded by mega electronic companies and factories in that section of the world. But ill take your word for it. Either way unless your buying a new TV every year its a non factor in terms of an expense.

household appliances? I don't think anyone here is gonna buy a house. And even if they were, it's a one time thing. Once again it's a non factor if your moving from US to thailand for the rest of your life.

western food and drinks? What are they 2$ a drink instead of 10 cents for anything else? aka another non factor? You don't have to eat western food.

All your points are moot once again. Thailand is cheap. And if you don't think so then I guess you disagree with everyone else who talked about thailand in this thread being cheap.

Oh and you won't name 10 things because you can't.

Ok, let's end this little argument.

Smell that freedom! Per-capita, the US has 715 people in jail, where Thailand it's 315. So either the US is full of criminal lowlifes, or your freedom isn't quite as high as you think.

And if you're from the US, you're not allowed to use the corruption argument, because you guys are the absolute masters of corruption. The rest of the world stands in total awe, as they watch the amount of corruption within the US govt. No nation in the entire world does corruption better than the US.

So in Thailand there's more criminals on the street? Well damn I can see the attraction of moving there now!

No retard, In US there's more laws on the books and they are used against you in a for profit, corporate manner

damn, I can't believe there are that so many of you don't see the police state... Never been to thailand , so I guess my opinion is useless, but I assume that thailand isn't going through the process of losing freedoms. Therefore, at least you know what to expect 5-10 years down the road... Some of you dumb fucks have a big surprise coming in the US

DO.NOT.DRINK.TAP. unless you grew up there.

This would only be valid if you lived in some super sterile country like US/UK.

I'm from Bulgarian and I drank tap water just fine, probably because its dirtier here...

The problem with most first world countries is that their children run in sterile environments, and eat bullshit foods hence a lot of people are allergic to peanuts, dairy products etc.

Unlike Thailand, Hong Kong has true freedom. No internet censorship, 0% income taxes on non HK income, freedom of speech and the right to protest is guaranteed in the HK constitution.

HK has the rule of law unlike Thailand and one of the cleanest governments in Asia.

It's also ranked the freest economy in the world by the libertarian think tank Heritage Foundation.

Index of Economic: Promoting Economic Opportunity and Prosperity

Thailand isn't even in the top ten.

And is 10 times as expensive as Thailand.

Wow, the trolls are out tonight!

I'm going to bed happy that they don't believe me. Let's hope it stays that way.

When you first posted I was concerned that putting a lot of info in one place would make it that much easier for a bunch of gay webmasters to decide to make the move. But I am now thankful to all the detractors who have no actual first hand knowledge of actually living here for saving us from the invasion.

Luke I just want to thank you for all the info you posted here, its been really useful to me!

Well I estimated I'll spend 1500-2000$ a month while in Thailand, so that would mean 24k an year... I guess I need to stack up around 100-150k $ before moving there :)

But I wouldn't stay all year in Thailand, I would travel to other countries around Europe and maybe the US a few times an year so that should make VISA Runs easier for me.

But I am now thankful to all the detractors who have no actual first hand knowledge of actually living here for saving us from the invasion.

Yeah, I'm left scratching my head a bit. People who've never been here are making it sound as if it's Stalinist Russia, or something.

Whatever though, up to them. I'll go back to making money.
