Luke's 4K post: How to GTFO! (And into Thailand)

That southern tip of the country was (Stupidly) annexed by Thailand out of Muslim territory. (Thais are mostly all Buddhist.)

These muslims just want their land back, and it's pretty much the furthest, most remote place in the country from Bangkok.

More dumbshit troll attempts. Everybody except this guy knows where that is and that it's nowhere anybody goes.

OMG you don't get it so hard. Some guy "took"? Some guy came in and sold something that people wanted so badly that they spent 30% of the town's GDP with him. As long as he didn't do it by force or coersion then that would be an enormous win-win for everybody.

just give up. he's fucking stupid, it's that simple.

Let's not forget, songs can get you incarcerated in Thailand, for example a fucking SONG about fucking CHESS (oh, controversial!) BANNED by Thailand's Ministry of Mass Communication:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9mwELXPGbA]One Night in Bangkok - Murray Head (HQ Audio) - YouTube[/ame]

I can't imagine a government so oppressive they would censor Murray Head's pleasant little tune about a cocky American beating the rest of the world at chess.

LOL. That song has been played to death in tourist bars all over Thailand to the point of being a terribly annoying cliche. If it was "officially" banned then nobody seemed to know about it. More info from the internet? You must be very well informed. Try it in real life for a change.

There are some real issues with living in Thailand. But despite all of your efforts you haven't hit upon a single one of them. The best you can do is cite a ban on a song that is ignored by everybody as selective enforcement of laws. All you are doing is making yourself look like a total retard.

This is a weird thread.
People who have lived/are now living in Thailand say it's great.
People who have never visited say "no it's not, the Internet says so".
Gee.. who should I believe? lol :tongue2:

But like I said before, it's not for everyone. For some people, living in Thailand is great. And I would say that group is a small percentage of the total. For the rest it's a great place to visit but not to live.

Great thread. I actually wouldn't mind living in Thailand, at least for a few years. But I think I'd fare better relocating to Latin America due to the language barrier and some other points raised by others.

Some Latin American countries, especially in the Southern Cone, have a fairly high standard of living but are still relatively cheap. Also, some places in Ecuador and Colombia have a more agreeable climate, at least for me. Relatively constant temperatures year round, not too hot, but never below freezing. I think I would melt in Thailand. Here are the average temperatures for Bogota:

Meanwhile, in Bangkok:

I hope energy costs are as low as everything else in Thailand, because I'd be running that AC 24/7.

About US$0.10 per kWh. That's a little less than the so called Tier 1 rate of Southern California Edison which is US$0.13 per kWh SCE - Understanding Tiered Rates

We don't run the a/c much where I live since it isn't that hot most of the time. But we have a lot of other stuff running in the 4br/5ba house + 2br/3ba guest house + 1br/1ba servant's house, like a bunch of TV's, couple of refrigerators, water pumps and lights plus there are the pumps for the aquaponics system and when I dabble in the workshop the welder uses quite a bit for short periods. Average about US$70 per month. Doesn't seem expensive.

This is where Mark and I find something to disagree about in Thailand... I just can't handle that kind of heat... I'm a total AC-dependent life form there. :(

I have read that we Whities usually do acclimate after a month or three of really diving into it... But I tried once for 95% of a month and I was miserable the whole time... And where I want to live, in the downtown area, I'd naturally be inside with great AC everywhere I went anyway... Just not while on the street.

But yeah, Electricity rates are definitely lower than they are here in Kansas. I paid $160 this month here in KC, in the springtime, for a 2-bedroom apartment. :( A much larger flat I stayed at in downtown BKK has an electricity bill about 1/2 to 3/4 that price.

Totally agree that in Bangkok you have to live in a/c nearly 100% of the time. You go from a/c home to a/c cab to a/c sky train to a/c mall with mad dashes in between through the smoggy inferno.

In the mountains it's not as hot and humid - the elevation makes a big difference. Still damn hot during the day in hot season, although at the moment we are getting unseasonably cool weather - it is normally in the high 30's this month but it's in the mid 20's at the moment and I haven't cracked the AC yet this month.

What visas are you guys getting? The only way I can stay (that I am aware of) is if I do a visa run every few months. I really want to move there soon but the Visa is the biggest problem.
