Good god man, how in the fuck can you use 32GB of RAM? My W7 PC still has 2gb of ram and I run dreamweaver\photoshop\skype\chrome\IE\firefox\zune\live messenger\utorrent\live mail while watching movies on my 2nd monitor with VLC and I've never had a problem with not having enough ram.

You people have to admit, nobody makes a quality laptop like Apple. Somebody show me another laptop made totally from aluminium? the Dell Adamo was a contender but they've discontinued it. While I like Apple hardware, I'm no fan of OSX.

I need about 16GB RAM already, I have many things going on at once. You don't get that much power unless you need it and I need it for business.

Hahaha, so what you're saying is, the only way to get this performance is to buy the PC with OSX on it from Apple? And that every custom-built Windows PC is for WoW players?

I would like to see these benchmarks that you are talking about Mac performing better than Windows on a high-spec machine.

I've got news for you, Macs use the same hardware as all the other big companies. That's right, they use Foxconn and Intel just like Dell, HP, Sony, and everyone else, so you're argument is invalid. They use the same hardware, throw it in a cute chassis, and sell it for double.

Now you're talking about using Mac for distributed computing. Did you know there is something called Linux, which is completely FREE? I also don't see Apple offering any fibre channel cards with their systems.

The only thing Macs are good for is music recording (not mixing) because of their low-latency sound card drivers, but then again, you can just use Linux instead and save $1,000.

Uh no, you missed my point. I said comparing a top of the line Mac workstation, fully loaded (i.e. dual 6-core xeons, 32+GB RAM etc) is incomparable to two PCs on normal specs that cost half as much. You'd need to compare apples to apples, no pun intended.

Did you know that ONE of the 6-core processors that the Mac Pro uses costs $1200 on Newegg? And it uses two of them. So yeah, you cannot compare a typical gaming PC to a high end workstation, be it Mac or PC.

My point about distributed computing was, that if you even try to compare a typical gaming PC or BYO PC to such a high end workstation (mac or PC), you would have to compare at minimum two of them, in a distributed setting to match the performance.

No, it is obvious that you missed my point. I was not comparing 2 lower-spec PCs against a high-spec Mac. I was comparing two PCs of the same specs as the Mac.

I was saying for the cost of the 6-core Mac Pro, you could custom build 2 PCs of the SAME EXACT SPECS. That means that for the same price you could custom build a PC that is twice as good.

Here, I tested my theory and came very close. You save $4,000 by building it yourself, which is almost enough to buy another.

I thought for sure this was a joke thread... but there are people srsly debating this? (Unless we're chalk full of trolls here.)

My problem with Macs is they don't do anything that a $200 netbook with Linux can't...

(cue the rage)

Run Photoshop?

Apple provides a superior product and if you're serious about your online marketing, you need to be running with Mac hardware. The latest Macbook Pro line come with thunderbolt technology which no other laptop on the market has.

If you're an online marketing who is actually making any money, chances are you're already using a Mac. Are you ready to join that elite group? If no, go purchase your shitty $300 plastic EeePC that can only run an email client, browser and text editor for coding.

PC's can't even run iTunes or iMovie.

Run Photoshop?

Using Wine Linux can run older versions of Photoshop, even the CS line. In fact CS 2 and CS 5 are both labeled as GOLD (which means they are fully functional) in the wine DB: WineHQ - Adobe Photoshop CS5 (12.0)

We've actually already discussed this in another thread about thunderbolt, lol good luck with that bro.

Yes and the consensus was that if you don't have thunderbolt at your disposal, you're simply not in the game (marketing).

My quad core 2.3ghz MBP with 8gb and a blazing SSD works just fine.

I even dedicate 2 coreZ to Win 7 when developing via parallels and the shit boots faster than my Win 7 box w/ (2) SSD's in raid 0.

I would buy the Apple simply based on the difference in customer service level. I had a problem with my screen, Apple gave me a better computer in every single way. Worth the extra money for me to be able to go down the street (rather than call someone in India) and have someone answer questions, fix my stuff and if they cant, replace it free of charge.

On the apple defense side, if you buy a pre-built PC from someplace like bestbuy you are getting crap for the most part. Not enough power, processor, etc.. What you do get with good specs is usually low end quality anyway.

I just wish I had the ability to build my own laptop and that there as something like textmate that I liked for windows.

I keep wondering why nobody tries to enter the market with a new take on personal computers. For over 2 decades it's been Apple and then everyone else, competing on razor thin margins for Microsoft machines. I have to think someone else could provide a third option and win a viable slice of the market.

Your infographic is stupid, doesn't even mention Thunderbolt you moron. You're trying to compare (BTW, there is no comparison, I'd glady pay double for the above Mac because it'd help my campaigns) a Mac to a PC and you don't even get the technology right bro.

I seriously can't tell if your a troll or not.
