Hurricane Irene

NYC would be so fucking fucked if this thing hits with any type of strength....so fucked

European model (most accurate for tropical systems) shows a track even further west. Right over RVA in fact.

BRB UNTYING MAH BOAT FROM ITS TRAILER, I'm gonna ride it out bros.

Its going to be a what.. category 2-3? You pussies can't get though that? I have lived in south florida my whole life and I've gone though like 15 hurricanes. Bitches running around like the world is going to end.

So get some plywood, nail that shit over your windows. Get some water, ramen, and a camping stove. Enjoy the damage and being off work for a week afterwards.

I come bearing pictures from the furture...

People around here are acting pretty complacent, but then again the recent earthquake was pretty unprecedented. It's also pretty rare that a hurricane comes this far north and isn't dragged east across the water. This thing goes straight over mainland, if I had to guess I'd say NYC is def fucked, hopefully it weakens considerably by the time it reaches Boston though.

You dont understand, homes in FL are built to withstand high winds. The 1995 building code requires all homes to have hurricane straps (you know, so your roof doesn't blow away), larger roofing nails and more. It is also not common to have wood framed homes in FL, which almost every common home in the NE is wood frame.

If this hurricane hits land at a cat 3 in the NE, you are fucked, so completely fucked. Roofs will literally blow right off, they have no building code against high winds up there. If it hits NYC, I cant imagine the damage it will do.

Edit* I am a certified home inspector in FL

^^^ Blokblok basically said it.

Earthquakes travel much farther on the East Coast than the West Coast. But it's the same thing regarding both earthquakes and hurricanes around New England - nobody ever prepares for them because they're so rare. I think that's a dangerous mentality and all you need is one bad one to fuck shit up.

I live about 30 mins south of Philly and were fixing to get hit hard. Ocean City, MD has mandatory evacuations as well as several beach towns in southern, de including rehoboth beach

I live in central Connecticut. Not only is my garden probably going to be torn out of the ground, but I'll probably lose power and not be able to do any work either. The only upside is the prospect of looting, I've got my eye on Best Buy.

I'm from southern CT...we'll see what happens. Saturday night, I'm supposed to be on a booze cruise in NYC...I highly doubt that's happening lol...

NYC/Long Island have been through many hurricanes before, this is hardly unprecedented - just a little overdue on the news cycle.

Oh you mean like " An infamous 1938 storm dubbed the Long Island Express came ashore about 75 miles east of the city and then hit New England, killing 700 people and leaving 63,000 homeless."

The population is probably 10 fold now and your all living in the same shitty houses

LOL @ all the white people problems in this thread.

My Mom is driving up to The City tomorrow. I think she's stupid for attempting it.
