How to Make SURE to Not raise an Atheist

> Atheists think this is clever? It's simply sophomoric namecalling...
> oh wait, that IS all atheism consists of

We can't properly debate the religious explanations of how the universe works, because none of it is based on presentable evidence or logical reasoning. So it looks like ridicule and anger are the only other viable options left.

Certainly, letting religious organisations influence social policy, foreign policy and law without rebuttle is not an option any more. Religionists had a nice run with that 'you must respect our beliefs' bullshit, but that doesn't wash any more. Bad ideas are bad ideas, whether they're religious or not. In this day and age, ideas should be able to stand up to scrutiny and evidenced debate or they should die a death.

But my main point is that Dane Cook is a cunt.

lol religion lol

Religion is for those who feel better having someone/something telling them how to think, feel, and act. And so be it. Just realize that it doesn't make you a better person. It still makes you just a person; no better and no worse than everybody else in the world.

You? (I mean you do realize one is a religion and the other is a nationality...right?)

lol yeah. There's a reason why I haven't answered that question. Indians are as smart as an average American (and no that wasn't an insult to either).

Like the yahoo answers poster I feel some resentment about the fact Christianity was pushed on me during my formative years. I don’t blame my parents because they were doing what they thought was right.

People can believe whatever they want to. The problem is, the religions that have survived operate like a mental virus. Adherents are strongly encouraged to procreate and spread the faith to the next generation.

Gnostics taught that salvation was acquired through knowledge and effort. Christians taught that Christ will take care of everything as long as you accept the dogma (don’t act like a goat).

Gnosticism was a richer worldview (while in competition with Christianity) but was too sophisticated for the masses. It required too much from the individual so it didn’t sell very well.

The religions we are left with are efficient pyramid schemes with the best benefits: immortality, moral superiority, sense of belonging, multiple wives, etc. A good portion of people go with what sounds good. Who can blame them? Often, the truth isn’t pretty.

More coming later.
The guy in charge of the study - Philip Schwadel. Cant find a detailed brake down.
UNL | News Release | Study: Education affects Americans' religiosity -- but not how you might think
Wow, Rusky, is this the best you've got?

You posted two articles and neither had any percentages, numbers or data of any kind in them. They didn't even mention the sample size! (Perhaps he 'scientifically' just polled his mom? Or the U-Nebraska Bible Study class?)

The first article was just a summation of the second article.

The second article said that this Schwadel dude is publishing this "work" in "a forthcoming edition of the journal Review of Religious Research."

Because, you know, all scientists worldwide read that one with baited breath...

Further, his "findings" are all laughable in that you simply can't draw these kind of conclusions from asking people questions. No amount of polling could draw such conclusions, it's seriously piss-poor science!

If you'd like to argue the point that Education doesn't kill religion then you're going to need to source the best science journals known, like Nature... Not some guy reporting for a religion+science journal!

Surely even you can see how there might be a conflict of interests there???
