How to Make SURE to Not raise an Atheist

And thats what gets you through the day...the thought of some magical land you will be going to when you die, how retarded and simple are you?

You do realize that's the difference, right? The Christian envisions paradise and atheists envision nothingness? One's view is divine; the other's is bleak.

That's kind of... the point.

I mean, it's embarrassing how retarded this kid is and it sure doesn't help that Lukep encourages him.

Number 1: There is a man in the sky who controls everything
Number 2: When you die, you don’t disappear into an eternity of nothingness. Instead, you go to a really great place.
Number 3: In that place, everyone will get a mansion.
Number 4: When you die, all the people you love will be there.
Number 5: When you die, there will be free ice cream for everyone, all day and all night, whatever flavors you can think of.
Number 6: If you do bad things, you won’t get to go to this great place when you die (You get three chances).
Number 9: The man in the sky who controls everything decides if you go to the good place or the bad place. He also decides who lives and who dies.
Number 10: Even if the man in the sky does bad things to you, he makes up for it with an eternity of good stuff after you die.

Clearly you do not have any understanding of Christian Teaching.

I was actually raised Catholic. I'd say I'm pretty well versed.

These are the "revelations" from "The Invention of Lying", just a joke.

I still think Christianity is a crock of shite though.

I ROFL'd... You thought he was talking about christianity!

A wee bit defensive about your religion, REIMktg? All it takes to set you on defensive manauvers mode is for someone to start naming some random religious-like lies in a list?

LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!

While you may win that one, I did make an assumption given the tenor of the thread, it started about Christian Bashing, you still lack substance in any response.

Ah Catholics, probably worse than Christians, NAMBLA has been envious for years

Who defines indoctrination?

Are you saying we should lay out all of the facts of science? Christians welcome that. Of course many do not believe that, but they do.

The fossil record, OK, fine. Show me all of the transitional species.
Evolution of man, OK, fine. By the way, I know your theory justifies racism etc, are you saying all men are not equal, after all they evolved on different paths.
Time being a dimension and God is outside of it, OK.

What science disproves Christianity when thoroughly examined?
What reality disproves Christianity?

Do not list what you disagree with, like Communion, or Christ's ressurection. List something with meat, something tangible that we can prove/disprove.

I am always open and would be more than happy to dump my faith if I could find coherent, logical, and real reason to do so.

I have asked WF to Atheists to lay down their claims before and I got nothing. I got a theory, an honest reference to Occams Razor, as an argument against God. I read up on that for awhile, and will admit much of it was over my head, but in the end it was all theory, not fact.

I asked those questions because I am genuinely interested. It was not an attempt to add fuel on a generic Atheism vs Christianity debate.

Your faith is none of my business. I’m not here to proselytize.

The dopey question on yahoo answers raised an issue nobody has addressed. Is raising a child with the intent of passing on your religion a reasonable thing to do? As long as you have a decent rationale, there is no wrong answer. Either approach can be done well or poorly.

Atheism, as defined by atheists, is the rejection of specific religious explanations of the universe.

Are certain atheists so fundamentalist about the atheist label that they refuse to acknowledge the societal definition of the word the way it has existed for 1,000s of years?

Dictionaries do not define it the way you are suggesting. According to the wikipedia entry, atheism can be compatible with various religions, such Buddhism and Hinduism.

We can trace the origins of the term back to ancient Greece. ἄθεος - Wiktionary

You can believe the Red Sox will win the game.
You can believe the Red Sox will lose the game.
You can say you don't know who will win.

These are three different "opinions" that we could assign three different labels to.

Atheism has historically been defined as the belief that there is no god or gods. Religion is not a necessary component for the term, just like unicorn religions would not be needed if we wished to establish terms for those that do or do not believe in unicorns.

I see the word athiest as simply a term for someone who is able to think rationally about an irrational concept.

The argument for and against is redundant though as many people here have pointed out. People are going to believe what they are going to believe, especially since it is something that can be inculturated from such a young age.

My biggest issue with any religion is that it lessens the idea of personal responsibility for those that do believe. Blow someone up in the name of God and you will be forgiven, kill someone in a fit of rage - pray and be forgiven. The idea of repentance takes away from an individuals sense of accountability and personal responsibility. Just my opinion which means nothing to most.

I actually wonder how many have read the bible completely? I've done it twice for shits and giggles and it seems to me that any rational person would want to burn this book if they actually read it - same for the Qur'an.

I'll put these here so you lot can argue about it some more. I don't see the point in arguing with those that truly believe, or trying to make them see what I see.

lukep, please enlighten me on how you figured out scientifically god is not real.
I would like data (hard scientific evidence)

Until I receive that data, you are just another religion bashing atheist (on par with a fanatical religious)

I bid you all farewell on your epeen thread consisting of bashing something which no one can know.

PS
you said we are limited by our tiny brains and science isn't... that is 100% incorrect since our brains(knowledge) determine our level of science.

These videos show how little people are willing to look into Christianity before finding it repulsive. The maker of the video is stating things, if they were true, would be repulsive as he says. But each point is out of context and not being properly presented.

I will gladly take one point and thoroughly explain it if anyone here cares, but I cannot take the time with all 10 of his points - I do not have the time and I doubt anyone here cares enough to read it.

But, just as before in other threads, I will explain a chosen point in full. I did this before in a previous thread and no one argued my explanation. Any takers this time?

Can you explain how God is real? Id love to be convinced.

No...please do. Please rationalize these points. Please show me the thought process of someone that needs to believe and is willing to make it work anyway possible.

If you don't, I don't mind either. Like I said previously, I care little for what people of any religious denomination believe in. Each to there own. I'm not going to hold it against you that you believe and hopefully the same could be said in reverse...I don't need converting and neither do you obviously. :)

Is there anything more sad than an atheist? Somebody struggling for attention, someone whose bleak views on reality, besides being pathetically disturbing, are so inaccurate as to cause them understandable mental issues including depression?

This is the perfect definition of yourself.

That's OK. No time if it is not relevant.

I appreciate your sincerity in saying it will not make a difference.

I too am sincere in saying that if someone would show me reason and logic that moves me away from Christianity, I would abandon it. But no one has ever come close to even presenting anything remotely persuasive. And I honestly believe I am a rational Christian that believes based on examination and reason.

Life for our ancestors who dreamed up the above was brief, hard and brutal. Then as now, the idea of pie in the sky was comforting. People cling to religion as a kind of security blanket, and yes, indocrination is nothing less than brainwashing.

I personally would like to believe some of the above, but I am totally skeptical. If anybody has solid proof that any of the above is true present it and I will reconsider. I suppose this makes me an Agnostic-Skeptic.
