Facebook Social Ads

Thanks guys. I really appreciate all the help so far. Aequitas that was exactly the website I was trying to remember. So thanks! =)

As for CPC vs CPM, it's better to stick with CPC unless you get really high CTR's, in which case i've found using CPM is cheaper..

As for your comment, what would you say a really high CTR is? And also should I be somewhat concerned that I'm only getting a clickthrough ratio of .05? I'm having trouble figuring out what's the best method of selecting the right demographics to target my ads too (in terms of individuals interests - I'm just currently doing gender, location and age as the variables for targeting my ads at) so I'm aiming my campaigns at a fairy broad range of people.

And I'm trying to narrow down the range of people I'm targeting to. So can anyone give me a few pointers on what I should do...should I try to target my ads at people with certain interests? How can I do this with a campaign that revolves around selling leads to IQ tests, or survey forms? Which are generally broad type of campaigns. Unlike advertising dating sites to young single males, which is a concentrated style niche.

With facebook a high CTR would be 0.2 or higher, your first goal is to reach 0.1 CTR which is fairly easy to reach once your hitting your target demographics, from there you work your way upto 0.2 then try to get higher and higher.

I usually sit between 0.17 and 0.22 CTR depending on which offer, demographics, ect... I'm going for.

Anything below a CTR of 1% and you're fine with CPC.

And what Aequitas said.

ok thanks guys. So what I've taken out of that is a lot of trial and error, with plenty of split testing certain demographics, to eventually get it right.

I'll give it a shot =)

Damn Aequitas is in a giving mood today lots of great tips... maybe access to your software :)

Here are some more FB tips.

1. High CTR = cheaper CPC , be careful though super high CTR of un targetted traffic can lead to a lot of traffic that doesnt convert

2. Images effect CPC the most

3. No one reads the description thoroughly so don't bother going grazy split testing it.

4. When split testing demos keep in mind that results may vary because of the image not because that demo won't convert.

I am not saying it makes NO difference I am saying body copy won't effect your CTR as much as images and titles.

There is two ways to go... get insane CTR and pay like 10 cents a click and hope it converts on the back end...

OR

Target only super qualified users and pay more for every click but hope conversion rate is higher.

The goal is to find the sweet spot where your ROI is acceptable for your goals.

I got a question about the AdBoard. Is there any particular order to the listing of the ads? I'm noticing some ads are always at the top and others are in the middle or bottom, and imo the ones at the top seem like they should be getting a high CTR*CPC.

AFAIK , there is no order to the ads on the adboard.

And I agree with the Body Text. I have 2 ads running with same image/title, both of them getting similar CTR's (0.39 vs 0.43), and one of them converts 4x the other one, so don't dismiss body text in your ads.

Heaps of excellent information in this thread.

Typically, what kind of review times do you guys experience with Facebook? Does it take several hours, or is it quicker than that? Vary by day? Time of day? Ect.

I know they can be picky when it come's to approving ads and everything, but I'm more interested in how long it takes to review ads that contain material that isn't really on the border with them, so it's an easy green light.

generally it takes anywhere from 2-6 hours to get an ad approved based on what i've experienced. you must also remember that FB employees are on PST time and work normal hours...so you won't be getting that Acai Berry ad approved at 3am PST.

I don't get it. I know their standards are really tight so I tested out 5 real legit offers. One of of them was for Gamefly - and they all got denied. No logical reason why. Just doesn't make sense...

My question is though..for more general offers (obviously not gamefly) how do you really decide on how to target - other than gender and age?

Sorry for repeating what everyone asked 100 times already..

You guys all say to expect a CTR of 0.1-0.2, how many impressions are you getting per ad daily?

you should have no problem getting 5-10mil+ impressions a day with a ctr of 0.1+ and wide targeting. (depending on your bid, of course)

I agree it usually takes from 2-6 hours but well over 12 hours on the weekend, don't expect to get much approved then, I think only a few times I got something approved on the weekend, not sure if they work on the weekends or maybe they only do sometimes, who knows.

If we don't have the data you typically do some research online to try and narrow down the target market and once you start collecting data you can narrow it down even more.

Depends on what your daily budget is, your impressions will be determined by how much this is, from what I've noticed FaceBook will try and stretch out your daily budget across the whole day and not just give you a billion impressions and/or clicks in hour 16.

My average CTR is 0.04 - 0.08 and I've had upward of 250k impressions in one day. Your CPC bid price has to be right to get this number of impressions.
