Still very new to all this but I'm taking a good run at correctAd's directory suggestions. The website is: goBoozen Home Page. So far.. I decided to go with eDirectory for the program. They have all the features i was looking for and got me up and running in less than 48 hours. Used krazyjosh5's scrapper, driving traffic with PPC, and taking some desperate attempts at SEO. Considering purchasing links through textlinkads, but haven't done so yet. I decided not to go with the whole idea of using a traffic generator to drive a lot of initial traffic to impress the potential advertisers. Not only did it all seem like a big scam, but also didn't want it to hurt my google rankings if for some reason i was caught. Wanted to keep this as legit as possible.

Any comments and suggestions are welcome. I'll keep posting my progress so you all can see if I fail or not :)

That site is looking pretty nice so far. Great name and niche! I hope you succeed.

Well you are having better luck with edirectory than I am. Most likely because you used the out of the box solution (that's what they call it) and it's fairly simple. So if you guys are just looking for that then edirectory is probably the way to go. However, use caution, if you are looking for them to customize to an existing site, or you are starting a brand new site, or if you have changes that you want to do to their existing code it doesn't go as smoothly. (Although in their FAQs they indicate that it is not a problem to have their designers do any of this)

I started the process of getting them to customize their solution to my particular idea for a directory almost a month ago and all I have to show is still just the out of the box directory (as seen in mthomas's post). They are very slow to respond and when they do respond it's like getting little morsels of the information I need. It would be one thing if they said, "hey we understand what you want, you want this this and this, it will cost this much and it's going to take a month to do this this" (Again in their FAQs it states " If you require extensive changes and customizations the delivery timeline will be provided along with a quote specific to your project.") But I am still waiting for what I paid for (standard package plus customization) and they haven't even gotten around to giving me a quote for anything beyond their customization. I still have no idea when the process is going to be complete or even a estimated ETA.

Again, if you are just going with the original solution they offer for a directory then it's a great product. As for anything beyond that, the jury is still out but at the moment it's not looking good. I really wanted to wait until it was all finished (whenever that might be) to post full feedback but since mthomas made his post, I wanted everyone to get a little more information before they made the leap.

Damn, I hate writing bad reviews. So to try to even things out a bit I wanted to give a good one.

Through this whole process I managed find a very reliable and efficient web designer who produced the template I was looking for at a VERY reasonable price. I'm not going to say how much because who knows what he charges for different types of templates and needs but it was much less then the quotes I was getting from everyone else. He always responded promptly to my emails (within 12 hours max) and when it turned out that I needed some modifications he responded immediately, again , with a next to nothing fee. His name is David Williams and you can send your inquiries to david@diavi.com. I am assuming he doesn't mind me giving out this information as it can only be good for business! :D

lol Mthomas 'gets it'

nice site dude. hit me up if you want any tips on how to get more advertisers to sign up.

Breen you're a fucknut go back to warriorforums. People actually work to make money here.

However I do have an amazing new ebook just released it's called "MAKE TON'z of Money While Doing Nothing" It's a numbered limited edition ebook and if you buy it before I release it to the public I'll give you a good deal for only 499$ rather then 500$. However I'm going to require a 2 page feedback letter on how I could improve it for that discount.

By the way flipping burgers is work to, on that note don't you need to get back to it?

smaxor is my hero

seriously Breen if you don't see the opportunity here then you're a worseless asshat. This works, I know because I get calls from other guys doing it because I have an offline business. Fortunately for me I know what they're up to and don't need them.

I've gotten great support from eSyndicat, they just released a new version. The script is designed as a web directory, but alot of people seem to be using it for other purposes as well. They also produce an article script and have a real estate and auto classified variant of their directory script in the works, both of which would compliment a community directory nicely IMHO. I've heard good things about their customizations as well, its seems most customizations run about $50.

so far I have to say eSyndicat FTW. Great support, they just launched a new version. Its NOT EXPENSIVE!. It is however designed as a web directory, so it takes a little tweaking. I plan on paying for a few custom mods, but you'll be surprised what the staff gives away for free in the forums if you just ask (in terms of custom code). They're also working on a real estate and an auto classified variant of the script which I plan on incorporating into my site.

from what I've seen of this script so far it can do everything I want it to do plus they offer an unlimited domain usage license, which fits perfectly with my eventual goals. so it will allow me to start out small and relatively cheaply and grow from there.

How do you populate the directory with you data?

Do you import the listings to the mysql db directly?

I was playing around and it seems there are some complications. For example if you just populate the listing table, you have to update the categories table "manually" to update the number of listings number.

Is there a better way to do it?

Thanks!

good stuff

This is my first post in WF in a long time, I played around with arbi for a while back in the day, made a few good bucks doing it too. Ran on autopilot until trends changed. Anyhow this thread is great, I'm fired up about the idea and the thought of putting in some hard work to get this off the ground. Thanks to everybody with tips and help.

Yep, got this down in my to do list after the next few sites I'm working on. I'm surprised that I haven't heard lots of success stories with this one - the only difficulty might be convincing people to sign up. I'm going to be aiming for small businesses, preferably don't have a website, not web savvy - and will tell them that they need to get into the internets, it's the place to be yada yada yada.

I don't understand why people are evading this idea because they don't want to be a salesman. It's much more efficient to conduct your communication through emails. The only room for phone call I see is if a sponsor wants to sign on for a good sum and wants to communicate via phone because of formality and verification. Other than that, some of you act like you'd be going door to door with your briefcase.
