Easy Way To Make 100k/Year

I was thinking, scrape your listings from YPs, and then delete them one by one before you go after their business. Say you're calling up company A today, delete company A, call company A, show them how their competitors, companies B,C,D,E,F,G,ETC, are listed, and how great your site is, maybe that they can buy a premium package which will put their listing ahead of these companies. Then tomorrow, do the same with company B, and so on :)

eventually you will have turned all your "free" listings into paid ones.

I haven't done this yet but I'll let you all know when I do

(my host, ziggyhost.com, is crap, so I'm starting over from scratch w/ a new host)

now that you can say that the site gets traffic and have the proof to show it by screenshots...

you call up every business listed in your directory site and say...(of course not in these words but...)

"....hey, just to let you know, my directory site is kicking ass in a particular/popular/common keyword - which means my site is very valuable...and your business is listed. Would you like to pay me, a monthly fee or anual fee to keep you listed? otherwise I will just delete your business from my ever-so-valuable directory..."

-would this be considered a bitch move? - and the whole way of thinking with this totally wrong?

If you want to make a little bit of money quickly, and get your site, phone guy, phone number and anything else associated complained about to anyone who will listen, this is a great idea. It keeps you from having to go through the rigamorale of cashing cheques month in, month out over and over and over for the same site, which believe me can get to be a real chore.

Seriously, building long-term value turns your easy bullshit scraper site into an actual asset with recurring passive income and residual value for a sale down the line. Why not work at it now rather than douching it up to make a quick buck?

In my opinion and experience just removing them from your listing before calling as an above poster mentioned is the best bet. The reason for this is our natural competitiveness. Businessmen are usually alpha males so seeing other competition on your site will get them threatened by the competition and wanting to "fight back".

If however you mention how you're going to take them off if they don't pay, you are now the threatening party. It's no longer dealing with those dickhole competitors who keep stealing their business, it's dealing with some asshole who's almost blackmailing them. The obvious response is to tell you to sod off and tell all their friends to tell you to sod off too.

One method I've been thinking of though is mentioning that someone put them in your listings under the free one-month trial but now that trial is expiring. Ask them if they'd like to renew for only $XX/month or $YYY/year. This is similar to the threatening them, but the differences are:

A) It makes them think someone found them interesting enough to list and you interesting enough to list them on.

B) It appears that at least one happy customer knows about your site off the bat, so even without talking numbers there's potential there.

C) It lets you keep other people's listings on there without you looking like a douche if they find out you're only removing them just before calling (such as from seeing a friend on there and then hearing a few days later that you said the same thing to the friend).

Overall this is a really good idea. A well targetted niche can be worth its weight in gold really. Hire a few freelance writers get some reviews up, offer a company front page reviews or other stuff and you're pretty well good to go.

If you want to be really shady, write up a basic python bot to post dynamically generated (but somewhat randomized) reviews onto your website for restaurants after they've already been listed to leave the business feeling secure that people are trying them out via your listings. If you execute it properly pretty soon you'll have a real community and won't even have to worry about this posturing.

is it really good for you?

Have you test this program or affiliate?
Hopefully it will be help us and can give us a lot of benefit...

Cay Candies, could you, please, post some specific examples of real businesses you mentioned above?

Is it worth putting up a directory adding some big dogs for free and advertise it in ppc everyday. Do you think that would create advertisers to come to you to advertise on the directory cause they see the big dogs are on there?

add half the big dogs, and make the other half feel they are missing out (forcing them to pay)

I scraped over half of yellowpages.com and they called me and complained (not me personally). Two guys, one of them said he was FBI. (Probably was a lie, but it got me to stop scraping.)

But anyway, he said their info was available on CD... I did some searching but couldn't find anything about that.

Im intrigued as well now, what the hell were you doing trying to scrap the whole thing? Were you going to get in touch with everyone in the United States?

Also I know the scraper for the US version is done, but has anyone been able to do this for the UK version of the yellow pages? Yell.com?

Heh, just finished reading through this thread...
Am wondering how many people here are drinking Brawndo & Powerthirst as they're doing their shit

But yeah, is definitely something I've been too lazy to try out, but I think I'll give it a crack in my local area. LOTS of Greek businesses. Do a targeted think, try to get geek greeks to come my way for shopping heheh

Good outside the box thinking. +rep.

This is as about outside the box as a cheeseburger. This is an old school, circa 1999, business plan. But don't get me wrong, I not only believe in the method, I practice it too! My company has local niche portals in 18 cities. They are easy to maintain and generate a lot of dough. Don't ask for links though... I don't post links to these sites on any forum where people can duplicate them in a matter of hours! ;) These sites are so easy to make it's embarrassing!

noob to the forum

I've been doing a lot of thinking, looking/research into doing this kind of thing myself for a while, so far i've been with the 99% of people that read about this kinda stuff and do nothing.

Time to get started i think.

 Thanks for the great info here and in the rest of the forum folks!

just like to add my thanks for the information posted here, certainly makes a refreshing change from the usual bulls*t that i read!

It figures, you can never get away from scrapers (human or non-human)

this ball licker starts posting comments on my site AS CorrectAD saying how I stole the content, and then complaining about getting his comments deleted.

Oh hey douchebag, BTW: just cuz something's in a pdf doesn't make it an ebook. Take your head out of the kool-aid and go make some money.

I live in San Francisco and I've been debating on doing something similar...I'm sure there's a lot of grunt work that goes into the front end, but showing traffic and numbers does work wonders...need to get off my lazy ass to do it...
