Easy Way To Make 100k/Year

Local SEO on Google is quite easy -- so, promoting this wouldn't be difficult at all.

BTW, this is much better than the stuff on DP; good thing I never signed up for that forum.

Is it possible, after scraping, to incorporate all this data into the directory easily? I imagine no one does it all manually...

PFNetwork, most directory software will have an importing option to import the csv file created by the scraper.

All right, cool thanks :) I've purchased the scraper and esyndicat, and a few domain names. Think I'm gonna start a directory for restaurants.

I know people said they'd be working on this, I'd be interested in hearing about anybody's progress so far.

Thanks for that. I've bought the scraper, esyndicat (waiting for them to approve my download), and a few domains... think I'm gonna start a directory of my own.

I know people said they'd be working on this... anyone care to share their progress? I'd love to hear about your experiences so far.

If you're really going to take the time to do restaurants, slapping up some half ass directory may not do very well because of your high levels of established competition...

You really need to have a campaign in place to reach out to these people if you want the business.

For instance, you might start a directory called {city}diningdiscounts.com where every restaurant you have listed has some sort of discount coupon.

You allow these restaurants to put their coupons on your site 100% free for a year.

Now you've got a site that you can advertise because it's chock full of content... discounts for restaurants.

Then, what you do is offer advertising to the surrounding businesses that would benefit from your dining visitors. (think.... car washes? taxi/limo companies? clubs?)

Get creative with your advertising options (put the ad on a "free desert coupon") for maximum spends.

Now, if you do your job right, you'll be driving traffic to the restaurants, as well as your paying advertisers. When the "free year" is up, you have a shit-ton of hot leads for renewals... and if they saw activity with your site, they'll pay.

To be successful in this kind of market, it seems that you need to do what nobody else does... give the restaurant totally free advertising, and make the money off of less solicited businesses.

just my 2 cents.

I live in a large city, and in my experience, most directories will focus generally on the largest part of the city and only that part. I'm doing a different area. I know I've searched for restaurants in my borough but only came across a few review sites, nothing extensive for it. Thus my idea.

Thanks for your advice. I was thinking of doing something like scraping all directories for my area for restaurants, then calling or snail mailing a bunch of them. Offer them a free listing but try to upsell them with other things - website design if they don't have one, banner ad designs, ad placements and sponsored link placements, and a few other ideas that have been born because of this thread. I could offer their coupon/gift certificate to be on the directory for a fee as well.

I may or may not tell them they've got x days for free being listed on the directory; haven't decided yet. I think, to be the best comprehensive listing of restaurants for my area, that submission should be free, so I'll keep it free for now but stress the importance of having a sponsored link (top placements in the listings!).

Right now I have a much more important issue; I can't figure out how to upload the scraped data into my directory (esyndicat). Does anyone know how to do this?

try sending a PM to one of the mods on their forums (SergeyTen I think?)

ox, I've sent PM's, opened support tickets, even asked in their forums. eSyndicat has a .csv import plugin, however no documentation whatsoever on how to use it. Argh, their support sucks hardcore ass -- I hate buying scripts where the coder(s) are lazy or slower than dial-up.

Guys anyone in here done this for more than a year? I'm wondering what will happen long term...Were ramping up multiple directories and the cash is literally pouring in. 600/yr. plus 500 for 'professional photography.' Lucrative doesn't quite cover it. If any one wants more granular details give me a shout.

So it appears I've been a member for a few weeks and haven't yet posted much according to the forums. Sorry guys.

Well first of all this method does work and I've read a lot about it in different versions.

It's a method that takes time and patience but it's definitely worth it if you know seo.

I have not yet tried it but I do know from reading the first post and doing a quick search around some smaller city's that there isn't much competition for the local keywords like "oak chinese food".

It is very easy to rank for these type of keywords with such small results. The only problem you might run into is selling the spots when there's not many buisness's around.

A couple questions I have are:

Why not just lease the domain for a monthly fee?

If you control the sites for them do you offer an extra fee for managing the site?

It's a good post. I'm currently building a site based on these principles but the target is a specific niche rather than trying to hit a whole community.

teamwork

anyone with web design experience want to team up to accomplish this project? I can handle the coding..

anyone else wish to share or update how they are doing?

I'm doing ok.. not great, but not bad either. Just started, not exactly the same method, and I don't make videos (yet), but it's good money and principle is the same.

It's not as easy as most things, and I noticed that using a simple directory/layout isn't good longterm (businesses don't keep subscriptions.. but I'm only charging per month), so I invested in a good designer and coder.. you might not need to if you can code though.

I'm doing month by month (and 30% off if they pay for a year) between $60-100/mo depending on business (mom and pop shops less, big businesses more).

For more details or if you need help feel free to PM me.. peace

Thanks correctAd, you're a genius! now update your blog! :D:D:D

Leasing the site to them is basically what I do. if they stop paying the monthly fee, I plan to sell it off to someone else.

I've also been making some money using this method.. not exactly, but the same idea applies. It's not easy but it's worth it IMO...

I have about 6 directories up and bringing in around 4 figures a month.. decent, considering I only charge about $10/mo ($120/yr) for now. Will increase rate after I add new features.

You can PM me if you need to know how or need help.

Are you doing city directories or are doing niche directories. I am getting mine set up now to hit the market but wanted to see what has worked.

I am planning on a city directory which does not have much competition and was not sure how to price it. Was thinking about the start low for a year and upsell them but I don't want to short change myself.
