best place to buy domains?

namecheap just "lost" a bunch of my domains years ago, moved everything to godaddy. Godaddy is annoying and overpriced, but they haven't fucked anything up.

Enom changed their domain suggestion tool (not to the better) and have become really pushy with upsells, too (No, I don't want a dot me).

So, I am looking for a new home for my sites. Dynadot offers a good discount if you spend more than $500 per year (that is easy), but not sure how good they are. Does namecheap offer discounts for larger accounts?

I use domainsite.com to purchase all of my domains. No real reason why, but I might take a look at Namecheap, considering the love for 'em here.

I have used Namecheap in the past, but like others they "lost" a few of my domains, one being my nameserver's main domain. Killed my server for a few hours trying to figure out what was going on.

GoDaddy has been great so far. Not to mention that they will host your DNS for you as well is a major bonus.

domain privacy is not free anymore with name.com.

It's 1.99 ( but they have the 'FREEWHOIS' coupon, I don't how long it's going to last )

regular price is listed at 7.99/y

they wrote it will continue to be free for those domains that already have it turned on

1and1 seems to have problems right now ( at least for me, 500 errors everywhere during the registration process )

Never had a problem with Namecheap. Unlike godaddy etc., Namecheap cares about its customers.

so what's the cheapest place to get domains with privacy included now?

I suppose 1and1 but the last time I tried they had a problem and for several days they were unable to register a .net domain....unbelievable for such a large company, I hope their registration process works as usual now.

1and1 - $8.99 - privacy included
name.com $10.98 - privacy included ( current privacy price is $1.99 but the regular price is advertised at $7.99/y - crazy choice imho, free privacy was the main reason that convinced me to buy tens of domains with them )
netfirms - $9.95 - privacy included - $7.99 1st year
moniker - $8.something + privacy $4/year/domain
godaddy - $19.68 ($10.69 domain + $8.99 privacy)
namecheap - $12.57 privacy included

all these prices don't consider bulk discounts

others?

I like eNom's control panel the best, but they require $$ up front for the reseller account, so it only works if you have a lot of domains.

Life isn't long enough to click through all of GoDaddy's BS, and their control panel is buggy.

In terms of the aftermarket, Sedo is where it's at for the size of their inventory and pro staff.

Namecheap is awesome. GoDaddy makes you give your credit card number and their customer service is dumb. Sedo needs to update their security -- I spent 20 minutes figuring out they don't accept characters in their passwords like the rest of the modern online world.

Since GoDaddy is known for using your credit card for auto-renews, I can't understand how they justify forcing you to waste your time calling them to give that information; when most of the other big names let you sign up and start buying right away.

name.com - never had a problem with them, but no more free privacy so that sucks

godaddy.com - use them also when I was a noob starting out... not bad aside from the relentless upsells

Namecheap. Best service and response. Godaddy is shitty and they email you and upsell you in anyway they can. I have never been emailed by Namecheap unless I put in an inquiry or bought something. NAMECHEAP FTW
