best place to buy domains?

namecheap.com - gives you a free domain privacy whois to every domain you purchase.

Why? Cheap, easy and never ever had any problems with them..

I 2nd this. I have a few at Name.com and Godaddy but the bulk of my domains are at Namecheap. I've used them for about 10 years now and I've never had a problem. And the free WHOIS guard is nice.

They also have monthly coupon codes, this month (Feb 2010) is ILUVNC

1&1 == avoid like the plague

godaddy == who the f* wants to hunt coupons all the time; basides, their renewals on .us extension is $20! $20 in 2010. f* theives!

moniker == better, reg fees are lower than most across diff extensions

namecheap == good, although i don't like the fact that it is an enom reseller

name == ok; reg fee higher than nc or moniker

Moniker... They've never lost a domain name... You can call their CEO and he'll talk to you. Prices are good there too.

Godaddy has a crap cp but I still use them. I used to have my domains scattered across multiple registrars. moved em all over to Godaddy - thankfully I've never had to contact support

I was a big fan of domainsite, until I switched to Namecheap, cannot recommend Namecheap more.

if you want privacy protection ( or call it as you prefer ) moniker is more expensive, $4 per domain!! I buy domains at name.com mostly because they give free privacy protection

that said, moniker has lower reg prices

Agreed.

I should have noted that I use a virtual mailing address for my Moniker account; hence no need for WHOIS privacy
