Anyone Stoked for Apple's Tablet Release?

Yea, I have an iPhone, and a macbook pro, and LOVE the shit out of them, but I still cannot see the reasoning behind a tablet that's basically a giant iphone.

Ah I figured something like that, half of my post directed to you was in jest.

Honestly the tablet is just something people will get to surf the net, read books, or watch videos on while sitting on the couch or in bed. They can probably set it up on a little stand while eating in the kitchen/having breakfast so they can get rid of 1 tv (if they even have a tv in the kitchen).

It is also definitely a different option for people who dont already have a netbook and bring their full-size laptop with them when they travel, thus not really needing a laptop.

Giant eyephone? hell yea.

I am not a morning person, so I usually do my first round of emails etc from bed. This would be epic for that.

hopefully apple's tablet will be cyanide... maybe there'll be a few less iWankers prancing around.

urghs...

I really dig the idea of a tablet computer .. provided it is something like we see in SciFi.

- Unbreakable (throw it on a desk, etc)
- So cheap it is almost as expendable as paper
- A real computer

What this will be
- Breakable to the point of frustration
- Expensive
- A shiny computer-like toy

Nope, no excitement for me.

I can't wait to see what Jobs and Co. comes up with this time. It's going to be awesome looking and overpriced. They better have some kind of a new angle to this tablet thing if they want it to sell.

I hope they release an update to the iphone OS. It will probably make my phone even less responsive then 3.x, but there are a ton of things they should improve.

But at least Apple will get the ball rolling (hopefully). I mean honestly, of course this thing isn't for real work. That's like saying you're going to get a netbook and expect to play Crysis on it. But, if it's going to work like I think it will, then it'll have it's uses.

At least they have good timing - bringing it out just when people are starting to get their tax returns.

Even then, the lack of a real keyboard is crippling.
.

Apparently one of the "new technologies" that this device has is a keyboard the feels like it's raised off the screen.. not a clue how that's going to work but Apple have surprised everyone before.

Should be an interesting press conference to watch though.

Apparently I'm the only person who has never bought an Apple product, ever.

They have done good things for the computer industry though... If they hadn't initially pushed the mouse with their early computer systems then it may have never been used as much as it now is.

Other manufactures are making tablets too. Running windows7.

Example, this thing is not so refined but was made in 2007.

Was thinking a very small slim pocket sized blue tooth keyboard/track pad would be real handy.

This is a newer model very pricey...

Yes I know some tablets are rather bulky. But was just trying to show this tech has been here a while. Apple is just going to refine it and turn it into micro-digital crack to feed the mac addicts.

/make millions for their company from launching a new product and creating loads of hype, got to give them some credit for the marketing they do!

Guarantee their shares will rise alot this month if anyone watches stocks and shares at all.

Apple goes hard, way hard with its advertising. I pretty much see Apple products in all kinds of movies, tv shows and other very public but discrete media outlets. Customers say to themselves
Hey look Hollywood stars use Apple!, I wanna Apple!!!!"

This is no coincidence by any means.

Same thing when you see a movie and every vehicle filmed is brand new model from one certain maker like Ford or Toyota. Clearly these company's sponsor these Movies and Shows to highlight their products. I am seeing this type of advertising to be extremely powerful.

Something like, a person will always believe what they conclude on their own.

"Will Smith uses Mac Book pro, apple must be the best!"

I'm not against Apple at all. I don't use their products but I know they are of decent quality and often ahead of their time. I like how they keep the competitors on their toes which causes technology to progress at a faster rate than if they weren't around. Im sure alot in the tech/pc world would be very different if it wasn't for apples :)

Say they sent 200 or so Mac book pros to high profile celebs. All they had to do was tweet that they just got a new Apple MBP!

Fuckking bam speard the jam stack them mills as fast as ya can.

You guys are funny. Did it even cross your mind that it's not about the gadget itself, instead it's about the content they can provide with the gadget? I love these "byaahh apple products are so expensive byyyaahh i can get this and this for half the price byaaaahhh". Makes me smile everytime when people don't understand simple things like user experience and then they try to pass themselves as smart fellows by giving some devices that include same/better technology for lower price. Well I guess it's ok if you like to play with the components but personally I really don't care what's inside the thing. I'm only using it to get something done.

Fujitsu has been making sweet tablets for years. They all come with detachable keyboards now, but back in the early 2000s my buddy had one that was stylus only, but you could still get an IR keyboard for it. It was super thin, light, high res, ran XP, had great handwriting recognition... it was pretty damn dope for the time so I can only imagine they've gotten better in the last few years.

So I don't really understand what all the fuss over a tablet is about. Multitouch? Apple apps? I'd rather just have a full blown OS and put whatever I want on it.

What I'm trying to figure out is the usability of the tablet though. The thing is mainly meant for entertainment, so I would assume most users would be sitting on the couch or in bed watching movies, reading books, and surfing the net.

But as someone mentioned in this thread, how the fuck can you type on this thing without velcro straps or using something magnetic so it sticks to you while you type? Imagine this thing on your lap, and you trying to type on a virtual keyboard. Major PITA if you ask me. Same as if you were sitting in Starbucks with one of these, you would have to put the tablet directly on the table, sit directly over it so you don't get screen glare, and uncomfortably type shit in.

What I'm imagining this thing will have is some sort of ergonomic keyboard on the bottom corners of the screen and not smack dab in the middle like one would think. Therefore you can hold the tablet while using your thumbs to type, sort of like using a blackberry. I agree with everyone that typing on a virtual keyboard sucks, I have an iPhone and I hate typing shit on it. But for surfing and entertainment purposes, the thing is the bomb.

The iPhone OS thing kinda bugs me too, I would much rather see a full blown version of OSX instead of a large iPhone concept.

Usability of this thing in key, if they don't figure out how to make it easier to type etc while holding the damn thing up, this thing doesn't have a chance.
