Damn that is some creative wordsmithery there z =P
I don't think that there's anything wrong with treating yourself for a job well done.
Some people are motivated by achieving goals and getting rewards. Others are motivated by giving money & time to support causes, but it's all ego satisfaction.
Nobody said that the only thing the OP does with his money is buy expensive plastic sports cars anyway, he could be very philanthropic for all we know.
To me, the problem arises when you put a priority on buying toys and other short term ego satisfying vanities.
BTW - I missed the threads of altruistic behavior - got any links, I'm curious to see something praiseworthy!
It truly is all ego satisfaction, you're right about that, it's the way some people go about it.. Supposing I was fat and treated poorly all my life and I went out and bought a viper to help me feel better, how long would that last? How long before you're back at your shitty old self?
By feeding your ego this way you're only decreasing your ability to connect with a large percentile of the population. The most remarkable people that existed on this planet didn't pursue money all their life. Imagine the personal insight you would gain by having a true one on one with Newton, Dr. Sagan, Tesla (insert personal hero's here).. These are all people that transcended their former self to become truly devoted to a cause that in the end became greater than themselves.
These interesting people would never even give the time of day to someone who projects themselves as an empty and purposeless human being. The shackles of ego will forever bind them to a world of superficial interactions and a leave them with an even bigger void to fill.
If you use that money to help people, these people will still be around all your life and you will gradually raise above your former self knowing that you truly helped people lead a better life. All a viper will cause is approval among people who aren't worth your time, and resentment from the rest
who may be. I said it before and I'll say it again, no one who realizes the potential lost by buying a viper is capable of such a purchase.
The altruistic posts that got praise are just random ones I saw over my time here, the latest that come to mind are in the goals of 2009 thread about animal shelters.
Thanks for saying I have good word smithery also
