wtf is the difference between house, trance, dubstep, etc?

i'm sorry, but you cant give me a super-long breakdown with 0 payoff ala dubstep and expect me to enjoy it. yes, there's room for variation in taste, but there's a difference between using a different sauce for steak (different people like different sauces) and showing someone a picture of a streak and then saying 'fuck off, you aint getting one'

No one can tell if they like steak or not unless they try it.

I suggest you try it - and make up your own mind whether you like it, instead of asking people what it tastes like. There can be no 'payoff' in a thread that dicusses something which is purely based on personal taste, and if you want me to describe to you what dubstep is, here's a handy tool you might want to use:https://www.google.com/#hl=en&sugex....,cf.osb&fp=cb785b2a153d08fa&biw=1366&bih=587

i know full well what dubstep is, ive tried to listen to it and like it, but the 0-payoff breakdowns are just ridiculous. that's not a matter of taste, it's a matter of violating the basic fundamentals of what makes dance music work

I meant to post this video this morning:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFLe3MEDwv4]Bassnectar interview w/ MoBoogie part 2 in Denver - 9/11/07 - YouTube[/ame]

Bassnectar breaks down electronic music genres in like three minutes, its pretty cool

he's right overall, but he's missing the off-beat fillins which are required for house. it's what distinguishes it rhythmically from club techno

can't stand trance

house is generally shit, but there is some great stuff, often with vocals (louie vega - elements of life is my fave song). the good stuff is definitely a direct descendant from disco (check out the dj rahaan vid on youtube).

not into techno- its really boring most of the time. i only like it when the producers make housier tunes (like rolando- jaguar or UR - transition).

no idea what dubstep is.

why all the hate to dubstep?

I listen to a lot of house genres and some dubstep. Though I hear a lot of soft dubstep recently and I really don't like it... rusko, UKF and some others that's what is dubstep. Although I agree you should have affinity to a certain type of drugs to enjoy it.

Some quality house music is emerging in recent years too. I don't like trance at all though. Too softy for me. DnB is cool as is jungle.

I enjoy gabba from time to time for about 5 minutes but everyone listening to this more than 20 minutes is plain nutjob for me.

dubstep ftw!!!
