Wickedfire Get Ripped Challenge

Ill go ahead and throw out there that I am willing to do this. I used to run 3 miles a day, but quit about three months ago. I am up to 210, but I like to stay around 190. (I am 6ft.)

I have never had muscle. Even when running, I have a big belly, that I can never get rid of. I would do this, if I could get some guidance on diet and exercise routine. The problem is, being an affiliate marketer, I dont really know what to trust, what's a scam, and what not.

Guidance, and I am in.

This will work:

Nutrition:

#1 Only eat as much as it takes to get rid of hunger.
#2 Consume mostly protein, particularly later on in the day
#3 Any carbs you eat, make sure they're clean carbs (not carbs from junk food) and eat them earlier in the day, avoid later on.
#4 Don't eat anymore frequently than every 3 hours. This will mean at least 5 to 6 meals throughout the day on avg.
#5 Drink a ton of water.

Workout:

#1 Try to workout at least 4-5 times a week.
#2 Start off with resistance training with freeweights. (dumbbells / barbells (freeweights))
#3 Have a decent workable resistance training routine that hits every major muscle group at least once throughout the week.
#4 After resistance training, hit up cardio of some sort. Alternate between 3 different cardio exercises, like sprint interval training, longer distance running, stair climber.. for no longer than 20 to 30 minutes MAX.

^- Do the above (as I did last year) and you'll drop that weight in no time. I got down from 202 to 182 in like less than 2 months, and I didn't have a lot of fat to lose even then.

Everyone should submit weekly pics of themselves, shirtless, for forum abuse and criticism. That should add some powerful motivation.

Shot one handed into the bathroom mirror while making ducklips even...

I'd be down but I purged all (most) my fat last year, down from 210+ to 175...I could probably get down to 168 with a ton of effort but the last time I weighed that little my body fat tested at 5.1% (hydro tank).

What dreamache said.

If you stick to a lifestyle change like that you can be in sick shape.

During the rock climbing season I hover at about 8% body fat, takes cardio 6 days a week.

Rest of the year about 13%. (cardio twice a week)

Dropping those last few pounds get easier and easier every year (at least for now). You just have to get used to sticking to the lifestyle change.

Start now. And yes, it will help your depression. A LOT.

I have dealt with lots of depression both personal and in the family.

Studies, personal experience, magic elves when on shrooms all say the same thing.

Physical activity fights depression.

Also check into your sleep pattern, diet (sugar rise and fall is bad!) and your living space (clean rooms make happy people!)

this exactly. eating right, getting some physical activity, getting some sunlight, and sleeping right can go a long way towards fighting depression. A lot of times when I notice I'm in a funk and I think about it, I realize I've been eating junk and sleeping ridiculous hours. It doesn't happen overnight but it does accumulate.

I'm not saying these activities and diet are by themselves enough to fix people with clinical depression (who I genuinely believe can be greatly helped with medication, I've seen it with many people in my life) but a lot of people just think they need a pill and everything will be good and really, they need to get their body right in order to get their mind right.

The other good thing about starting something like a fitness routine is it gives you a goal and a way to measure progress and allows you to focus on something positive where you can see things getting better. Its basically self reinforcing with very limited risk.

42lbs in 90 days is some serious weight loss (i mean fuck thats almost half a pound a day on top of the muscle you were gaining). if you don't mind my asking, were you north of 250?
I was 6'2", 276lbs, 27% BF. After 5 months of solid training I was 215lbs @14%. I now sit at 221 @ 13% (as of this morning). Working on hitting 225 @ 10% by the end of 2011 (hopefully).

To stay on the general topic, as well as keep from starting yet another exercise-related thread, I was wondering what you guys put in your protein shakes for maximum boost. I bought a Hamilton Beach blender recently, and I've got a few tubs of that cheap Wal-Mart protein powder from a workout kick I had for a few weeks a year or so ago.

Any suggestions?

just grab some bcaa supplements and take them down with the shake. Usually they already have everything. The cheap ones from walmart are often the best. Grab whey protein if you can and if you're like me and don't really care about the taste just grab the one with the lowest calories and the highest percentage of grams of protein per serving to the serving size.

Well, "maximum boost" in terms of a protein shake, would just be more protein (which you can add peanut butter, eggs, etc.. for more protein, but usually isn't necessary since downing more than 30-40g protein max per serving is useless, since more than amount won't get used)

If you're talking about pre-workout energy, Ximo or Redline will do you just fine ;)

8 years ago I did the Tony Horton process. He trains actors etc. to get in shape quickly.

In a nut shell:

1) In take less calories each day than you burn = simple math (approx. 3500 calories = 1 pound of fat) - eat 5 small meals a day to increase your metabolism (versus. 1 - 2 large meals)

2) Work out 6 days a week (with one day break for the body to heal) - and not more than 25 - 40 minutes per work out.

Alternate 1 day cardio, 1 day weights.

Lost 15 pounds in approx. 30 days.

If you keep going then you can get ripped. Abs as always, are the hardest.

Seemed to work........

^^^ Just made into an e-book. Time to make some monies.

surf 3 hours in the morning. workout at night. it works for me. whenever i leave hawaii i see how fat the rest of america is. its kinda of gross but sad at the same time. now is the time to start a fitness program. i actually recommend doing the Insanity workout videos by beachbody. they work wonders for people who arent in shape or for people who need to get in wicked good shape.

look into crossfit. see if theres a box in your area.

this too. crossfit is legit. be prepared to puke up your lunch. most people arent used to this kind of intensity.

Judging by the amount of positive comments and pms, I think we have 10 guys.

I'll send pms to everyone, send me your before pics and contact details, I promise to handle your pics respectfully and tactfully i.e. you won't see them posted in gay forums tomorro morning.
