Just finished the thread, set up a site (1 for now) and deposited some money in 7search. Lets see how I do :) The terms are only getting ~10k searches per month, so I worry about how many clicks I'll get, but at least I'm getting them dirt cheap.

Only 500 more sites before your initial testing is done and your ready to make some money!

why test with just 1 page, build 19 more and you will start to get real test information otherwise you are just going to stay stuck in first gear!

Hey Crynos,

Try this site spyfu.com. Click on categories or industries and work from there. You could even use dmoz, wiki, or even yahoo directory to get brainstorming ideas.

crynos - spyfoo is a good free tool if you are looking for ideas, don't pay any attention to the numbers as anything other than a idea

RIghto, I think I just got my first click, or at least money was deducted from 7search, although it hasn't actually registered on the reports.

Adsense reports or asrep reports? If its google the impressions and clicks are always delayed. Sometimes it even takes hours to show up. If your not already using it Asrep is a great tool for realtime reporting and a ton of other features.

I hope to build a bunch more this weekend/over christmas break. Right now thinking of good niches is my biggest problem.

Just to add another source for keyword brainstorming. Try Ebay category listings, hub.ebay.com/buy. There are tons of high paying click products in there.
:)

What is the best way to test conversions to see which keywords are converting? There has to be a better way then making 150 pages to see which accounted for someone clicking on a google ad? I dropped some keywords yesterday and today ended up to be very profitable.

I made about 4-5 templates with different ad sizes on each. Then used the best one and kept adding. Any page I put up with any keyword will get 30-40%ctr with that template. Then its a matter of keyword research and not paying too much for each word. I think Jon or Chris suggested an 11 cent rule ad not to go over that. So far that has worked for me. Only a few words I have gone over that 11cent mark becuase the traffic was really good and the clicks have always been between 0.80-1$. Inside this thread there are a few examples which can get you at least at least a 25% CTR use that as a starting point.

Some excellent info here, thanks for that. I have one question though, how long do you test a specific niche till you drop it if it doesn't work? 3 days, week, etc?

What I usually check for is what keywords they are coming in on. If my page is about life insurance for example but i bid on insurance only. Chances are if they keep coming in on the broad keyword insurance they may have been looking for something else. After a week usually I change the keywords and ad text and that usually does the trick. I have generally stayed away from one word keywords. Adwords has a way using negative keywords to make one word keywords useful. If you check your logs you will see what search string they were looking for. For example with insurance if you only used that one word. You may see in your logs they were searching for pet insurnace and farm insurance. If your page is setup for dental insurance then all of those people wont click on anything becuase its useless. For one word keywords you could have a landing page and then give them them listings to all the things they may want with that keyword. I'm trying that out at the moment.

Hm, clever, so you never really drop the niche, you just *evolve* from it, will have this in mind, thanks.

The key is in your logs, keywords you choose, the way your page looks, and your 7search ad. If my ad promises what they are looking for, I see no reason why they wont click. Of course there are other factors, like the browser they use (firefox usualy blocks adsense), where the user is coming from (many advertisers geotarget only to the U.S so high paying ads may not show up to others).

If you follow those guidelines, it will work.
