We Are About To Lose the Fight for the Internet

STFU, this is unprecedented, nobody censors the Internets via DMCA demands and WIPO actions.

DMCA is a per-content instance basis. This requires "Work" on Big Entertainment's part. With this bill or any of the other incarnations, a single unanswered "copyright violation accusation" that doesn't remove the content described within 5 days allows the entire website to be taken offline.

Can you say abuse waiting to happen?

Emailed my reps and senators and then emailed my entire contact list in my email with a whole lot of BCCs. I think that's much more personal than a post on FB.

Oh no I'll have to spend 99 cents to download an episode of Dr. Who from Amazon instead of getting it free after wading through 100 porn ads from torrentz.nu 1st amendment: dead.

It's probably been 4 or 5 years since I've pirated music or video content (subscription services FTW), but if DMCA style safe harbors are gutted we'll all be ragin' from the collateral damage.

When you talk to your reps or their aids, don't stop at telling them your reasons and that it is a bad idea to vote one way or another. Tell them straight up that if they vote for this you will actively campaign against them. Tell them you are a marketer and push a lot of traffic. Let them know you're not just calling to make a wishy washy recommendation and let your voice be heard. The majority of these fuckers are concerned about keeping their position more than anything else and they really listen when you mention reelection.

Don't take this approach for every issue but for the ones like this that count, absolutely.

Yeah, ironically, Online Piracy is down since 2009 by 15% due to Legit Streaming services.

I've always been telling the Big Entertainment Industries on their blogs, when they discuss this shit, that piracy wouldn't be an issue if they weren't so butthurt about squeezing every penny they can and making it so damn hard to get their content.

And what's more, and I can't find the link to this study now, a study came out a couple months ago that said that the best customers and most likely to advocate media or software are those who pirate it in the first place since they tell their friends about shit because they found it first without having to have paid to listen, use, or watch it to try it out.

That's a similar article talking about music, although I know there is a another more recent one talking about video as well.

The state is an institution of aggression. It is anti-freedom. It cannot be used to promote more freedom.

Also, keep in mind that the state is relentless. Even if you are successful in burying this bill today, it will be back tomorrow.

I emailed my rep. The internet is the only level playing field we small time operators have. I sure don't want to give license to big business and the entertainment industry to start shutting us down at their discretion

all I know is that the congressman who vote this shit in better have deep pockets...

We are going to tear their ass up in the SERPS.
