What I want to know is....what would have happened if the same person had won both the posting and referral contest? Would they have gotten the script twice? ;)
That is an excellent point that you have raised. That is why the point about these being niche sites is so important. Had we been provided with niche sites it wouldn't have been an issue if someone had won both contests. As it stands now someone who had won both contests would have completely wasted their time as winning both contests would be pointless.

As someone said before, true he could not manage to build 20+ unique sites in a short time. That's why his "team" was going to.

Heh, funny timing, came across this a bit ago:

http://ha.ckers.org/blog/20060712/sometimes-it-sucks-being-a-search-engine-spammer/

Somehow I ended up on the dumb side of a search engine spammer. I have no idea why anyone would think this would be a good site to rip off - you have to be a serious newbie to think that’s a good idea. Anyway, there I was, getting pingbacks and referring URLs and people telling me that my site was being ripped off by some dumbass. The only vaguely amusing side of this is that other SEO blogs have been hit by this recently too.
I’ve got to think this is just some sort of dumb joke, but that would be way too smart. No, this is just stupidity. So anyway, it was fairly trivial to figure out who was ripping my RSS feed. So it took me a few seconds to modify my document management system to do some IP delivery to the moron, and a few seconds of searching on the web for some nice prescription drug spam and poof! His site now looks like a bad spam doorway page and will continue to do so even more so with every post he indexes.
Then I do a little research on the idiot himself and I find out all his infoz:
– removed –
Why on earth would you hand pick this site, out of every site on the web, and think for a second I wouldn’t fuck with you? Way to go, moron. I’m not a spammer hater, but come on. Get a clue!
He also registered all his domains with Godaddy, and this is totally against their TOS - (copyright infringement). He’s lucky I don’t get all his sites nuked, dumbass.

That's if anyone is still seriously wondering if ripping RSS feeds will piss off the content owners.

If they put the script and plugins together then really they did "build" it. If someone builds a house they dont make the bricks themselves they put them together hehe :) I guess the winner of the 25k prize if doesnt actually make 25k will be moaning saying i was promised 25k, although would of signed documents stating theres no guarantee. You guys should stop moaning about your prize, atleast you have high post counts :)

but the prize wasn't a "freeware script with plugins added" ;)
it's all we got, nothing else. just the script with free plugins.

If I was promised a house and given bricks I'd also be annoyed.

Jon,

I tested the script and I have to tell you - it's broken.

Yes its a WP script with a bunch of plugins but they don't actually work. Sure they pull the RSS feeds off a site, but they stop short of a full article. They do what the RSS is meant to do - that is give PART of the full article. It then says click here to read the full article. The difference though is the link points back to the scraper site (as created by us - ie where we installed it) not to the original source so it only generates part of the content - never a full article Then images don't work correctly either, but thats a design / css issue.

Having said that though if I knew you were going to be providing a WP blog with a bunch of plug ins I'm not sure I would have entered. It made no sense to as all that stuff is readily available out there.

The original contest's promises and what was delivered are not the same thing. We entered into an agreement to provide 500 posts that were more than simple "yes/no" style posts and to provide 50 new threads. We all lived up to that end of the deal. Why EXACTLY couldn't you live up to your end? You promised a site in a niche designed and built by your "team". You then figured that ah what the hell I'll just give them this instead they wont mind. Sorry. Not good enough.

I ran into the same problem.

Well, we wouldn't have to bust our asses finding RSS feeds with full articles if we would have been provided with content as were supposed to have been.

Lol, no need to get snappy, not defendin anyone just statin the facts. :ak::2gunsfiring_v1::fart:

Tis why you gotta find the RSS feeds with the full articles and workin' images.
Sure. But 2 things:

1. Most places now are limiting their RSS feeds so you can't scrape them.
2. It's still not what was promised in the first place. This is not a Mook-Jon Team designed niche site.

After reading through all of the ugly posts made by tons of the unhappy winners, here's my response. I've gone back and checked my original post about the 500 post contest, and I have to say, it seems like a lot of you misread it, or just misinterpreted it. Plain and simple. Here's the quote directly from the original post:

Jon said:
Alright, first 10 users to hit 500* posts gets a free site made by my team. Trust me, you will want this in your arsenal of sites. They require little or no updating. I will either pick out a niche for you, or you can give me one and I'll have the site created for you. These sites do VERY well because their content is constantly updated, and all of the ads don't look like ads at all, so they get tons of attention (clicks and sales).

Now, after reading that, and the entire original post, where does it say ORIGINAL CONTENT ARTICLES? I think what a lot of you got mixed up with was one of my blog posts about articles and advice about creating niche sites like it. If that's the case, that's your fault, not mine, because I knew exactly what I was referring to in this contest. I knew from the start that the content that was updated on it's own (through scheduling cronjob) was not "unique" in a sense where my writers would be writing it, but actually delivered through an RSS feed. I also mentioned this in the email that included the attachment (feedpress).

Now again, in my defense, these sites are not worthless like some of you have been saying it is. First off, I just sent those files to you guys not even a week ago, so how the hell can you bash it already? Most sites take about a week or two to get picked up in MSN and Yahoo, who, by the way deliver some pretty damn good traffic. Will Google index them as well? Fuck yeah! And then came the PageRank question. "How can a site with RSS content get PageRank?" Are you kidding me? It's in blog format. Blogs pick up PageRank like it's free candy on Halloween. It's freakin easy, that if you can't manage it, you're just a lazy fool. But back to the point, the script, plus the hacks/plugins that we added make it a powerhouse. Don't believe me? Why don't you give it a whirl before you go apeshit on me.

For Peach and the others who insist that FeedPress is like that other script, do you even run one of them? Hell, you're acting like you paid for something and got something totally different. Re-read my original post, because you got EXACTLY what I said. The reason I didn't want to go the whole NDA route was because it is a royal pain in the ass to get a signature, digital or not and then keep tabs on the site. This way I was trying to do everyone a fucking favor by offering the source of it, with our hacks/plugins so you could do it for as many niches as you wanted. And then you could multiply your earnings on it. Everything was laid out in plain and simple English for you to understand.

So now that we've covered the bulk of the issues, whether you agree or not, you guys are at fault for not reading the post correctly. I'm not going to fight about it or say "I told you so" either, just next time, read everything more carefully so we can avoid retarded issues like this. If you feel cheated, well, sorry. But again, did you pay for something? No.

Almost everything I make lots of money with is so fucking simple it's scary. I don't have some hidden agenda or secret that will be given out where you push Start, and poof, huge checks and tons of traffic comes your way. You know that KISS method I posted about? Well this is how I do it, and it fucking works like a charm. I take things that work on a small scale, and multiply the crap out of it so that it earns me maximum profits. The blueprint for success is flat fucking in front of you guys, and it's your own goddamn fault for not grabbing it and utilizing it. I could care less if you guys use the the script or not, hell, I may even prefer that you don't so it's less competition for me. I will however post some stats when this project is a few months old to show you proof that not only does it work, but it generates such a huge amount of income per day/week/month/year that a lot of you may end up hanging yourself for not getting on board with it sooner. But that's your call, not mine.

Now, about the script and where it came from. My partner originally came up with the idea from a woman on Digital Point who was selling sites at $100 a pop using a similar script but without a lot of the plugins and custom hacks we added to it ourselves. Not only did she sell so many of these custom niche sites, but people praised the shit out of her on the forum and ordered TONS of them. So in turn, you guys are again getting the better part of the deal here, because so many people swore by her script sites that use RSS as a form of generating content, and loved the sites she made for them, even though when I look at them, they look like crap.

The DP link: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=38152

Some sites she made:
http://mountain-bikes.info-syn.com
http://chitika.info-syn.com
http://contact_lens.info-fiend.com
http://www.mountainbikingnews.com
http://www.valuegeek.com

I'll bet that if I didn't send you the script, and went through that annoying NDA process and had my guys make the sites for you, that this thread would have never happened, because you would have thought I was using some magical script that God delivered at my door for being so damn great. But now that you know I am using something so fucking simple and free, you are pissed off as hell because the little magical idea you had in your head, wasn't really real.

This is just about as best as I can explain it. If you still have a problem, well, I really am sorry that you refuse to use it. If you have an ethical or moral issue with building a site with RSS/Syndicated LEGAL content and images, well, you are about to miss the boat on something huge, but that's your call again, not mine. This makes me money, so I'm going ahead with my project. You guys can do whatever you like. That's it for now.

Hmm actually mook did kind of go on back on a few things, one he said this in the original contest thread.
These sites do VERY well because their content is constantly updated, and all of the ads don't look like ads at all, so they get tons of attention (clicks and sales).
But in another thread he said his may make $2 a day each so he puts thousands of them up, $2 a day isnt really VERY well. But its just marketing so would of written everything to create more buzz which is understanable.

It doesn't you're right. but it does say you will pick a niche for us or we will pick one and you will build the site around that niche.
Jon said:

Nowhere does it say you will provide a scrapper tool.

So you're essentiually saying becuase YOU understood what you meant, it's too bad for the 10 winners because we didn't fully appreciate how your mind worked?

Nope, still not good enough Jon. You have failed to provide what you stated you would. You have failed to provide a purpose built niche site. Putting together a bunch of free plugins to a free blog does not - in anyone's language or mind constitute as being a site designed by your team.

If you want to get out of this competition that's fine. Be aware though that it wont do your reputation very good. To know your first contest had most of the winners feeling cheated.
