The recipe for a $200K per year job

I think I seem to understand the concept better now. What makes this method different than CorrectAD's Easy Way To Make 100k/Year .. The major difference I see, this method uses a single page in your directory for ONE business of a certain keyword string, ie. chinese restaurant, and CorrectAD's method uses a single page in your directory for MULTIPLE businesses to advertise on for the keyword string. Is this a correct assumption or am I way off? Would either method be more advantageous than the other?

I promote my "directory" page, because over time the value will increase for the entire directory network.
I make it easy for them to promote my directory ... errr "their page".

How do you give the customer access to change the pages in your directory once you have sold them? Is that something that is inherent with most directory software packages?

If not, how would this work?

splitting up niches across domains?

Nice article, im looking at implementing this as a networked directory.

Getting all directory niches but splitting them up amongst domains - which in turn will hopefully push on the main directory further. Its an idea that has been touched on before, but maybe not at the same angle.

Thanks again!
What exactly do you mean? How are the directories domains split up... Redirects?

Crynos

I have done a couple of these in just plain old wordpress and they work pretty well.

I may try to MU and see if how it works.

I was contemplating the same thing of using MU. I think it would work best and you can at least change the skins for the various niches. Since each niche will have its own blog/site. Also allows you to do system admin on usernames and passwords.

I am going to run with this.

Oh yeah please stay out of my hood :) because I will be working it

Thanks everyone again.

Vladi- nice post.

Are these all from different domains or from the same directory website? In other words, are you buying a different domain name for the specific city/ niche, and then SEOing each of them individually?

Thanks!

Also, you say you're getting mulitple 'listings' on the first page of Google for a particular search phrase. Are you saying that you get multiple search results, from different websites that you've optimized for the same term?

I don't. They give me their url, and I put it in for them . In reality, they are renting my top ranked page. If they stop paying their monthly fee, I sell the page to someone else.

this is a great idea and i like the additional posts from those who are using it and making some cheese with it.

@ kimboslice: i just want to make sure im clear on this one. so you just approach them telling them that you can get them to the top of google then you do your thing (putting their url into your directory page that has you keywords set up on) then you get that page to the top and they have to pay a monthly fee? then if they stoip paying you jus t slang it to someone else? this is sweet.

what type of fees would you guys recommend using? a initial setup fee then a monthly fee? or how about a yearly fee?

Does anyone understand how vladi would get all top 10 search results on google for a specific term? I can understand how you could build a webpage, get it high on the search results, etc.... but how would he get all 10 as he mentions in his initial post? Don't get it.

Interesting idea. Although when I look at various serps I see a google maps with restaurants in the area. Now you could maybe get in there using smaxors local search idea to break into that but if I was a business I would hope to be ranekd first. From all the test searches I did there aren't any "pages" that rank above google maps.
Thats wrong you absolutely can rank above google maps...seen it locally plenty of times. I'll grab a screen shot next time it happens.

kimboslice: what kind of return rate are you getting on your postcards. I used to do this for my old employer and we would get rates of 30-40%. But this was due to an action tied to it (renewal of professional license). I would guess you are getting about 3-5%. That is consider good for a post card survey.

Vladi - very nice post. I seriously learn so much here. Everything is always evolving here.

The question is - you were concerned you might have originally had beginner's luck (in your first two sales) - how has it progressed since? Better conversion? Worse?
