The recipe for a $200K per year job

I'm glad you guys liked the idea. I'd love to hear any success stories for those of you who start. You dont need to mention the niche you entered ;-) I know if I got into a niche and started making $20K per month off it, I wouldn't want to mention what it was. The great thing about this business idea is you really can give the business idea away to your friends and family and they wont step on your toes since there are thousands of niches. I'm now in one particular niche that is very, very low volume, but the owners of these businesses pay really well. There's no competition whatsoever and I'm cleaning up.

About how long do you think it would take to dominate 1st page serps for a longtail keyword with maybe 10-15k results max? I'm just starting to break into the realm of organic traffic.. till now the only thing i knew about organic anything was.. :rasta:

I read the serp domination article that EMP posted.. but it seems like that would be a lot of work for something like this with such small competition. Anyone have any tips? Would it just be very basic SEO to rank 1st page?

Appreciate this idea though Vladi, too dope ;D

Great post. Do you always create the site first, get it on the first page and then sell it as a proven entity or will you also take an order from someone for a spot that you haven't achieved yet and then build and seo the site? Also curious if you've personally tried selling these via person, telephone and direct mail and which of the three has worked the best for you. Thanks again. This is a great idea.

It all depends on how many back-links each site has, age of the site, how well the sites are optimized for their keywords (is the main keyword/phrase in the title tag?) etc.

the only problem is see with this is, most business's know their competition for the majority of their town, so when they see all those fake restaurants they might get make the connection? good idea though, it would probably work.

I want to thank the dude that started this thread and the dude that started this thread

I'd been pretty close to starting something similar, with a twist, for several months now. After reading these posts, I finally put in the time to get everything up and running. Today was the first day I opened for business. Why on a Friday? Why not? I was too hyper to wait until Monday anyway.

After making close to 100 cold calls today (me and a buddy) I've made a few observations.

1. These here internets are a scary thing to a lot of people.
2. People really want to get on the interwebs for fear of missing out on
potential business.
3. The simplest things that you can do online looks like magic to some.
4. People will PAY you if you wow them and can add value.

2 sales today... drum roll please...$4,000 .
Money already deposited in paypal account.
Now I'm not naive and this could be beginners luck, but man the market is huge and you can go in any direction with this.

Damn I'm energized.

That's fantastic man ... not a bad day's pay if you can get it.

Great Idea, I was planning to do something similar but instead to sell leads to local businesses. But I love this idea to generate some larger cash payments upfront, so maybe I'll offer a mixture of both (buy leads or buy the site). Just have to test test test and see want the local market/industry prefers and if I want more cash upfront or longer term cash via leads.

Thanks for the awesome posts.

I have a similar question that was asked above:

How you selling them a unique domain or a page in a directory site. I am under the impression it is the latter. So the address would be (for keyword search = Beaverton "chinese restaurant")

www.beavertondirectory.com/chineserestaurant

Is this a correct assumption?

Someone stated earlier about using zip codes and that is a wonderful idea. Did some prelim searches with zip codes in them and some goofy stuff comes up. So it should be easy to climb to the top SERP.

Wondering about this too, can someone post their thoughts on this?

This article has inspired me to try this technique. I'm anxious to get started, so I've been doing some research on possible niches to target. I've been searching for certain keywords to do in my local area, but my search results are flooded by yellow pages, super pages, yahoo/ google directories, etc. How do you penetrate these sites in the rankings?

Which phrase would be more effective.. [city "niche"] or [city niche]?

Many of the phrases I have been researching with the city name first all seem to be 100k+, and I'm even in a pretty small town. Would it be better to target the zipcode rather than city name?

Question

What do your customers generally do when they already have a website? Just upload the exact same site to the new domain hosting and have a duplicate site? URL redirect the newly purchased (top ranking) domain to their existing one?

Just tryign to iron out the details of how to best complete the transaction.

Kimboslice,

I'm curious...

Do you have a script for the cold calling?

Also, what were you offering to the businesses?

We've been using a minimal outline that I put together for the cold calls. It works ok because my buddy and I both have extensive sales experience and can work off of an outline just fine.

But...

I have a guy coming in Wednesday to listen to our sales pitch, analyze our process and then he'll deliver us a standard script to use. I have 3 new people who want to work and they have minimal sales experience so i'll need something more concrete for them to follow.

As far as my offering, I am offering the ability to list on the first page of google for various keywords. I also have a few other value added offerings that set my "directory" (for lack of a better word.. It's not really a directory) apart from others. The additional offerings totally astound internet newbies and they allow me to charge a $,$$$ premium for my service (which I do), while still keeping my cost veeerrryy low. :)

Look, it is not that hard to rank if you pick the right long tail phrases. You will not be able to get on the first page for "Restaurant " without a lot of time and effort, but you can get on page 1 for "Liberty City Chinese Restaurant" or " Chinese Restaurant in Liberty City" in less than 24 hours if you do the right shit.

Pick a few phrases, get them bitches on page one. Pull up wordtracker or wordze and get a count on how many times your phrases will be searched. Figure out how much your target can make if they convert a % of those clicks and show it to them.

Bam! If you have minimal sales skillz you could close 1 a day working from home.

There's alll kind of ways you can work this thing if you just think...

kimboslice,

The only part I'm really confused about is what site you are using to get to number 1 for the long tail search.

Are you buying libertycitychineserestaurant.com, promoting the site to number 1, then selling the domain to whichever chinese restaurant in Liberty City takes the offer first?

Or, are you just creating a directory site.. say libertycitydirectory.com, then promoting libertycitydirectory.com/chineserestaurant to number 1 and selling the page to whichever chinese restaurant accepts the offer?

Why don't you just make a dummy site, get it onto page 1 for the keywords for the business type you're targeting, then start at business #1, go to their place, make them do a search for one of those keywords, your site comes up, you prove to them it's your site, then tell them that could be them - close the deal then & there! Go to business #2, do another keyword string, Bam, Repeat for the next businesses, each using a different (but similar) keyword string. - Something like that.

Ding ding ding we have a winner!!!

1. Figure out your method to get on page 1.
2. Standardize it.
3. Choose your target businesses.
4. Pays some kid in the Philippines $50 to work your method on 200 chosen topics.
5. Rinse repeat.

I promote my "directory" page, because over time the value will increase for the entire directory network.
I make it easy for them to promote my directory ... errr "their page".

Do you guys think it's worth it to get a custom coded solution to handle the directory? I was thinking of hacking around with wordpress MU, etc. to make a sort of directory/information site, but I'm not sure if I should get something custom coded.
