Well, Im trying to figure this one out.

I dont have alot of money (broke college student) so the most I could probably ever put into this gig over the next year would be $400-500. I have time, smarts, and know how and I figure I can just leverage perseverance to make money in the end.

But is that possible? To make money without too much of it?

(assuming Im not going to be the next Facebook or MySpace)

Just raise some money doing some 'dirty' work.

Spam some social networks, offer services, arbitrage, etc. And reinvest.

o rly?:D

it all depends on what you want to do. plenty of successful startups have been launched without much starting capital. it is true that in most cases it takes money to make money.

what route are you going? ppc? seo? what shade? build up community sites? try and sell .mobi's in forum sigs?:Yahoo_29:

anything is possible - as long as you believe it. i am off to spin a reel of yarn into gold string, have a nice day. :xomunch:

haha

id get into black hat but it seems that you get one go at it and, if you fuck up, you lose all your work. it also seems expensive to get into as well. i cant support risking $200 on scripts/hosting/whatever just to lose it 10x since im a noob.

im looking into arbi, now. :D

id like to go whatever way that can make me money. i was thinking about seo/ppc/blogging for a little while. im actually working on writing unique content for one.

mobis are a side project too ;) but im trying to get rid of those soon (and develop one)

Stop buying booze for awhile, and you should be able to collect a good amount of cash :)

It also couldn't hurt to try what JamesH did in the Content is King Sticky. Its a good way to get some fast monies.

If you don't got the balls to try something you'll never succeed. If you want to play it safe, go with cheap .info domains and get in with a program like SimplifiedSEC.

Here's how i raised the money for what I'm doing now...I made a site about my passion (magic tricks)..well it was my passion ..not anymore .
I worked half an hour a day on it ... got good serps and an average of 10$ a day with it and i sold it after 6 months for 2600$. And 2500$ to reinvest leaves you with a pretty good margin error.
Hope it helps,
Good luck!

There are other ways to go about making money from JamesH's method.

Don't limit yourself to blogs, just go look at the DP forums and see all the crap people buy.

Make crappy sites and sell them on DP. It's that simple. You can get $200 a pop for shitty little turnkeys.

Then when september rolls around, do proxies and sell them after a couple months. I made some serious bank off that, but I think the market might be too saturated now, although a lot are probably going to disappear during the summer and it could be like starting fresh.

These are just ideas to get some easy cash, mind you. By no means good long term planning.

Make some shitty arcades using a free script and focus on getting traffic from stumbleupon, DP members will eat that shit up at $300 a pop.

Yea that guide I wrote works pretty well (even though I never finished it, heh). You could also learn a skill like coding and sell yourself. Or you could do some bitch work such as directory submissions and what not. Tons of ways to make little bits of cash. Its just finding the most efficient way thats hard.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm in college and am currently paying back $4000 in loans for my first year in college(will add $4000 more this year). You got to understand that this business has a really good profit return. It's not uncommon to see a 200% return for a lot of people. If you invest $300 the first month you will make $600 for next month etc etc until you build up momentum. Yea your gonna lose money if you don't know what you're doing, but that's just part of the game. I've made PLENTY of mistakes and lost a lot of money, but I've learned what newbies would beg for. Just do it and you will laugh at how stupid this question is in the future :p

Yeah reinvest and take the slow path, reinvest all of your revenue back into the business. Cut down a bit on beer and use that money to pay for things like hosting and domains.

Dreamhost can host ya for $20 the first year and includes a free domain. Buy two more and you got three domains. Put up blogs and post on them every day. Set aside one day a week to get backlinks. Comments, Directories, Forums, you name it.

Throw up some google ads and a targeted affiliate offers or two and your in business. It ain't gonna make a hell of a lot of money to start with, but reinvest everything.
