Generally speaking, the average Mac User is white, upper middle class, suburban, walks around with a moleskin notebook with his ipod, whilst drinking his Starbucks Latte.

In short, a consumer sheep.

Amanda.. im exactly the opposite of that sweeheart

Fuck... Just use a typewriter... it is simple, will never get a virus will never crash (unless you drop it) and you can even hookup a smoke generator for long distance smoke-ring communication.

I use a mac for one simple reason: reliable.

If I am working I want to work, not having to update drivers, install software fixes, remove viruses, BSOD, etc, etc....
on the PC, half the time is spent fixing shit..on the MAC you spend the time actually getting shit done.

My office:

Weird, I don't even use anti-virus and I'm fine...I hear those horse porn sites are fucking vicious...

btw... very NOTICEABLE difference in speed after the snow leopard upgrade. From huge directories loading instantly to even just the time it takes to startup/shutdown.. more than worth the $29 bones for the upgrade...

Talking 250$ just for the dongle.

Unless I misread, the Leopard OS comes with the Dongle, so that offsets the price some. (A whopping $30. LOL)

I still think that you'd be money ahead with that method and have more options with your box than to get the whole package from say the Apple Store.

Well 130$, since the 29$ price only applied to owners of 10.5 leopard between 2007 and 2009. I didn't read that it came with leopard on the dongle at all, rather that it was an EFI emulator, also they wouldn't be able to legally distribute leopard in the US.

yea it doesn't come with an OS, it emulates the EFI firmware, thus allowing you to install straight from an original OS disk without having to hack it up for an EFI->Bios loader (and looks like you can use it to load drivers that isnt normally supported by apple). Also it only supports OSX to 10.5.8, so Snow Leopard (10.6.*) compatibility is not yet available. Each OS must have it's own disk as EFIx cannot read partitions.

Not true for me at all.

Some people have problems, but it is almost always either unsafe practices (browsing unsafe sites without proper precuations, clicking spam executables, other stupid shit) or dodgy hardware/drivers.

Windows has a lot of hardware/driver problems because it's an open system. Anyone can make the hardware (there are licensing fees and shit, but irrelevant) unlike Mac which is locked in. It's a lot safer and more reliable to use a Mac for that reason. Windows systems are a lot cheaper and more flexible or cutting edge performance and capability for the same reason. And yeah, sometimes there are incompatibilities which can show up as random crashes if you're unlucky.

I have to install updates like once a month. Windows downloads them in the background and I click yes and sometimes I have to reboot. I can't tell you the last time I crashed; it's been months, and it was the direct result of trying experimental software (warez). The last "random" crash? Much longer. Windows XP is remarkably stable for me; much more so than any other Windows OS I've used.

Virus outbreaks are a function of the popularity of the platforms, and the stupidity of the owners (wide open routers, etc.) Windows may be innately less secure, I don't know.. and I don't care that much. For me, the benefits outweigh the problems.

Windows works for me. I'm productive, I have very little downtime due to patching vulnerabilities. I have a lot more software to choose from. YMMV.

i have been using PCs since the 486 came out. I know how to fix ANYTHING and how to avoid getting virus/spyware, etc.... but the truth is they still crash...many many times. BSOD are a normal occurrence in VISTA and solving their cryptic language is a waste of time.

YOu are right about OSX being a closed operating system and that 's probably why it performs so well. Bottom line is I want to work and not repair computers.

Thanks for the info and taking the time post it up.

I will dive a little deeper into this myself now.

Thanks again.
