HE TOOK OUR JERBS!

News Flash: If you have something good: "Don't Tell ANYONE Anything"

And I wonder what people would say if they actually saw a dip in profits, or a change in FB policies. This is all just speculation and linkbait at this point.

Plus it is giving him some notiriety at Adtech. His booth and speeches will be packed if he is speaking (Didnt check, not going). Conference organizers are likely to notice, which increases his appearances and fees at future events.

The dudes crafty and you are falling into it.

His intentions are pretty obvious. He wants FB action. Less bid competition to push his new found "clients'" while establishing himself and some sort of authority that now uses his talents for good. Kind of like "The hacker that now owns a security company".

I wonder if he still bills his local clients on a per lead basis, or now collects checks whether he delivers or not. He obviously likes the celebritish side of things... being the guru, making the speaches... He's also trying to bring you guys on board! He's saying.. "market the local pub, fuck the ringtones". for fuck's sake his franchises are even free! lol... We'll all thank him in due time </sarcasm>

Even though the core audience of TechCrunch may skew to the technologically savvy demographic (though by the time I submit this that article will have been bit.ly accessed 12k times today) that would never click on an IQ test or Berry page - the real breadth is through their syndication (with the Washington Post) and the domino effect that creates (snippets on the AP Wire, etc.). I think it's a safe bet that Zuckerberg and Co. will be forced into a statement at least; and possibly make advertising for CPA affiliates even more restrictive than it already is.

Farther down the chain this could become fodder for further FTC or Justice Department exploration. Not because anyone has done anything outside the letter of the law, but precisely because there was not enough "law" to go after them for this in the first place.

True, but Facebook aside, every time the media exposes affiliate marketing - little/nothing happens. Even the most recent acai blast involving Oprah & Dr. Oz that not only "outed" the flog and "exposed" acai rebill offers to the extent that it garnered national news TV coverage on ABC, NBC, and the like - nothing happened (sure, Oprah was suing affiliates at the time, but the media had no bearing on that).

Once the Techcrunch article is syndicated, gets into the Washington Post, AP Wire, whatever, it'll just be a snippet, a snippet shoved in the far corner of the technology section. It'll be a cold day in hell before the Washington Post or outlets of similar caliber give front page coverage to Dennis Yu and his hypocritical ramblings. Zuckerberg won't make a statement for this very reason:

Zuckerberg: "I have come to apologize on behalf of my company regarding the malicious advertisements present within many of our applications"

Media: "What malicious advertisements?"

Zuckerberg: "Don't you guys follow Dennis Yu?"

Media: "Who the fuck is Dennis Yu?"

Zuckerberg: "On that note, nothing happened, carry on."

If I'm not mistaken the ties to Affiliate.com are because they like Mr. Yu so much that they moved him into a segmented part of their offices? In any case, I've met the guy once and didnt seem to be anything wrong with him but that was REALLY messed up.

Either way, TechCrunch is the most read tech blog out there and they got a lot of pull yada, yada, and fucking yada...

Dennis nor Techcrunch is going to slow down advertising on the Internet and they damn sure will not slow down the minds that work and adapt this quickly in an industry such as this.

Whatever.

Agreed.

I mentioned in a previous thread that most of tech crunch is read by a lot of professionals who aren't specifically targeted by marketers. I don't see this affecting much.

Well if you are reading techcrunch then you ARE in some way related to the online industry involving money - whether it be marketing/web-design/software development blah blah blah. Why would a normal 9-5 working man visit techcrunch. Just for kicks? Guess you missed the comments at the bottom some of which were like "omg diz iz a new way to make monies I'm gonna try it out too".

So yes - F U D U

if you let paranoia of competition stop you and scare you then you have no reason to be in this business, that just shows an insecurity of your own skills

Everyone has valid points. However, at this point, it's a matter of principal. Regardless of whether it will hurt the industry or not, you just don't do sh!t like this -- PERIOD!

I had a big long post on this guy that deleted. Ugh.. Anyways, this is just how far I am now. Anyone is welcome to pick up where I left off. It's a big tricky to track him. So here it goes again:
-Austin Stierler: Registered blitzlocal.com. Used to work for/own Implux LLC, a hosting company.
-Austin currently/has recently had IPs on The Planet, FDC Servers, PSINet.
-Current range list:
67.18.109.32-67.18.109.39
74.63.76.192-74.63.76.199
67.159.33.192-67.159.33.255
-Through Implux, they have a fake whois privacy company. It has only 123 domains, many of which are Dennis Yu. The company is called "privacy protect" or "privacyprotect.net". It uses a dud phone number.
-On 8/30/2008 the reg address for privacyprotect.net was 9921 Carmel Mountain Rd.
-The reg info for Implux.com was also 9921 Carmel Mountain Rd #265. So we can conclude Austin controls both(he was also the regged agent of implux).
-Among the things hosted on Austins IPs that are of interest: BlitzAds.com,dennis-yu.com, blitzfranchises.com, leaderclicks.com.

-Dennis-Yu.com once used an IP address of a server on theplanet. Everything on that server(10-12 domains) aside from a local colorado company (where he is based) uses the same privacy protection service. Included on this IP is Oprahsweightloss.com, and an IQ test domain or two.

-LeaderClicks now redirects to blitzads, showing that the current "blitz" team is in control of the IPs of the leaderclicks domain.

-BlitzFranchises.com is on what is likely another dedicated server making heavy use of their domain protection. Included on this IP: Chodeplanet.com.

For anyone else trying to track: Anything involving Privacy Secure, Implux, Austin's name. He used to be the registered agent of blitzlocal.

I have yet to find actual current/active affliiate domains. Still digging.
