I found about the treadmill desks not from the TV but from google hot trends, and now I own a pretty damn fine generic domain :)

UPDATE:

I had a member recently ask me about my Walkstation. Since I had just recently upgraded it and he wanted to see pics, here it is:

I was off it for quite some time. But as some of you already know, I've had back problems all my life and recently threw it out pretty bad (around xmas walking with a cane and everything). I've found the best thing for it is walking. It stretches out my back while strengthening the back and core muscles that surround my fucked up spine. The funny thing is I always found it hard to get motivated to lose that extra 10 lbs by getting on the treadmill. But when faced with being debilitated, my ass has been either outside or on that treadmill everyday. You just don't fuck with your health and mobility!

Anyway, I haven't been able to do the slow walking for hours mostly because with a 7 month old, I just don't have the time. But I do get on here for the fast walking/climbing for an hour everyday during his nap time and it's really paying off. :)

I have to say if you can type while you are running you are not going fast enough. I can barely take my heart rate occasionally by putting my hands on the contacts.

And I just read recently, that if you listen to aggressive rock or classical music that you burn 3% more calories and feel better after exercising. And can run longer.... It was a clinical trial too.

1 mph is slow as hell. Does it really take you an hour to walk from one main stop light to another? I can walk a mile in 15min. That is 4 mph.

And turbo I know you have back problems and prego and all. Maybe that dont apply for you now. Ever try Yoga moves for your back? Maybe once you are healthier and cleared by a doctor.

interesting idea. sitting down half the day fucking sucks. humans are not designed for that.

My boss for the last 8 years of my office career always outfitted himself with a hydraulic desk. These are typically used for call centers and the good ones have an adjustable monitor platform, adjustable work surface and adjustable keyboard tray, that move independently of one another and can remember and recall your preferences at the touch of a button. There are hand crank/lever activated ones but the electronic is better if you plan on making regular adjustments. You can raise the work surface to standing position so you can switch up a couple of times a day between sitting and standing.

@drake To reieterate: the point of this setup, originally, was to, while I was working, walk about 1-2 mph. If done 5-8 hours a day (the amount most people work) it will burn an extra 500-1000 calories a day. The point was NOT cardio. This will do nothing for cardio or endurance.

HOWEVER in the mean time with all my back problems and the fact that I want to get cardio in, the beauty of this set up is it's also connected to my dvr so I can actually walk fast and watch the Today show or whatever. This is all I have time for now...I can't get on the treadmill for hours at a time when I have to stop every so often and focus on the baby. But there will be a time soon when I'll be at it full time and I will be able to use this as intended.

@fatbat. I had that set up at a previous job. It was cool but weird cause we had cubicals that came up to your chest when you stood up so while I was standing (and working) I could look over and see the whole floor and they could all see me. I got alot of waves and strange looks.

EDIT: oh and I can't do yoga, it hurts my back (you know it's fucked up when yoga hurts it! I can't really put pressure on the spine or bend in certain ways. I'll probably have to go back to the orthopedic surgeon again for some oral steroids )

Hahahah, the reason I don't stretch anymore in the office..

cool concept, someone must fall down doing this and take the keyboard and everything with them. SOunds hilarious, and I hope to see a video one day.
