Masturbation - Stop Touching Yourself

I think a big problem is not just porn addiction, but anything that gives instant gratification, which raises dopamine levels:

Checking Facebook
Checking your Earnings/Stats/Adsense
Porn
Looking up Breaking News
Twitter Updates
Alcohol
Caffeine/Sugar
Video Games
etc

I've been experimenting over the last 2 weeks with trying to avoid anything that would give instant gratification and raise dopamine levels as much as possible. It's actually been pretty interesting. I've been more calm, less excitable, and focus has gone way up. It's still early, but I've noticed I've been slightly more productive. Still waiting to see what the effects will be a few more weeks from now.

Have you tried throttling your internet or specific pages to make them load slower?

Once you are married, have kids to take care and many other responsibilities your perspective will completely change, lol.

What about chicks? They make up like 30% of the porn consumer market. Is it bad for them, too?

And yes, a ton of girls regularly look at porn. They just don't tell you guys about it because they don't want you to keep sending them flowers at work and embarrassing them.

I haven't really looked into how to do that.

Basically I think it's just a matter of habit that needs to change. The book The Power of Habit touches on the subject pretty well.

Basically I want to reframe and shift the rewards to things that are more productive. It's been tough at first, but it is starting to pay off.

After 1-2 weeks.....

I really want to do this and have become fairly disciplined..but fuck...I just don't know if I can do it. I was literally headed to myfreecams and thought I'd check WF first.

I can attest to having more motivation when I somehow can't fap for 2-3 days due to various circumstances. I can only imagine a week.

If you have trouble sleeping, try using antihistamines like Benadryl, over-the-counter allergy pills that make you drowsy as a side effect. I pop two of those little pink pills a night and I’m out cold in twenty minutes. A $3-4 bottle from Walmart or any supermarket will last you more than half a year. Alternately, you can just drink more. Don’t combine alcohol and antihistamines unless you want to die in your sleep.

^ Taken from the article that was linked. This troubles me more than the masturbation thing haha.

First of all, Benadryl costs like $4 for a 2 week supply so his math is a little off. I want to know where he's shopping.

Second, it's common for me to take benadryl while drinking. Have been doing this for over 10 years because I get really bad allergies. As far as I know, I haven't had a single adverse effect to mixing alcohol w/ antihistamines.

I did a quick google search to see if any studies were done on this or anything, and didn't come up with much. Basically, it's just a big grey area and the warning only exists because the alcohol will increase the drowsiness of the antihistamine. There's no real scientific evidence this is bad for you.

Sorry for derail.

Its not so much beating the meat as it is watching porn, which is what the TED video talks about.

Id write more but its hard to type with one hand.

It's not just porn videos...

Even when you're looking at naked titties and asses all day long on WF, you are essentially desensitizing your brain!

I remember the days where simply looking at a hot chick in a short skirt would make me hard as fuck and make me wanna go talk to her. Today it's just meh... whatever. No reaction whatsoever from my Johnson.

Really not impressed with this.

This is the type of study where there is always and equal and opposite corresponding study.

They'll say: Coffee is bad
Then anotherone will say coffee is good

They'll say: beer is bad
Then anotherone will say beer is good

And so on.

Everything is bad and everything is good. It all depends on context, proportions, life preferences and more. And then using examples of people who were addicts (as in watching HOURS of porn a day) saying that quitting their addiction helps? That is like saying coffee is bad because someone drinks 15 cups per day and when they quit it was good for them.

Super-broad statements are super broad. People love it because it is a fad and has a 'novel appeal'.

But seriously, do you need a condescending college professor to tell you that watching ANY porn you want will desensitize you?

What next, a press release that states that extreme sports desensitizes you to 'normal activity'?

A press release that will say that eating high end gourmet food will desensitize you to 'regular cheap cooking'?

A study that 'reveals' how smoking super-killer wed desensitizes you to 'regular weed'?

For fuck sake, the things that pass of as 'revelations' now a days are insane.

Been on and off. Really difficult to quit completely. But the differences are profound. Really.

1) More productive for sure! Not just with time recovered, but just generally more active.
2) More agressive and go-getter mindset when I don't bust for a while. It's due to testosterone build up.
3) Feel more energy during the day (not drowsy and depressed).
4) Better when dealing with women. Witty shit just comes to my head. Things just click.
5) Get better erections for sure!
6) Sex feels overall better, more enjoyable and less about the nut, more about the experience.
