Luxury cars - Buy them Used, or New?

Plenty of high end cars that are 1-2 years old that you can get for a bargain vs. new. Not uncommon to find new models from last year with full factory warranties. Buying from a dealer you should still be able to get dealer extended warranties if you feel the need vs direct owner. In this economy, I'd definitely find a used model <10k miles and negotiate. If a dealer has a ton of new models just sitting around go make a low ball offer.

Being in the automotive business, I can tell you that buying used is the better investment.
Yea, sure, you can buy new and if you're ballin out of control, why not right? You get the privilege of driving a "brand new" car for the extra cash. If you've never owned a brand new car, and you just have to experience it - go ahead. Financially, it makes no sense and if you're taking care of your money like you should, you would definitely consider used over new almost always, unless you want some very unique factory customizations.

In conclusion, educate yourself or pay up.

Shameless plug:
BTW, hit me up if you need a hookup.

Buying new is stupid. Whats the point? to have the newest car? then what happens a year later? You do it again because you don't think your cool anymore in your 11 model so you go and buy the 12? Thats just being a tool, but if you got the money then spend it however you want.

I dont think anyone here is buying a bew car every year to just have the new model. If they were that would be just plain stupid

Have owned a few nice bimmers, some lowrider pickups, now an escalade - all of them were 'almost' new at purchase (except for the frist few rides I owned, pieces of shit but made them nice anyway - I was that ghetto kid with a shitty ford sable sitting on plastic rims and some 12's rattling my trunk, getting your girl wet in the car next to me or so I thought - lol - whut~!). If you're patient, you can get amazing deals, now that I have the money I still don't buy cars brand new. Houses, business needs, most other things actually I enjoy buying brand new but rides = not really especially because I like to fuck with mine and mod them/break them :)

You only buy new when you can write them off in taxes.

i.e: "Company cars".

Lollll "certified used" is a load of bullshit. So are warranties, and "full flush" oil changes.

Spend $70K on a new luxury car, or buy it two years old for half price. Seems like a no brainer to me. People seem to be afraid of driving their luxury cars, so it's not hard to find one with under 20K miles on it.

Don't buy luxury sports cars. You always worry about some dickhead keying it, or kicking off the mirror, while you're out partying downtown. There is never enough space to fit anything in the trunk. You pay 2x as much more brakes and tires. You can't fuck a chick on the trunk or hood, the car will dent. Incredibly uncomfortable fuck inside too, most of the time. Total waste of time and money.

Best argument in this entire thread :p

I'm with elliquid, it depends on dealership. There's this one chain locally that offers unlimited car wash/vacuums on new cars until you sell the car/it ends in the dump yard for an extra $400. Now that I think about it, it probably wouldn't make sense for cars costing a lot where the depreciation would be like 10K/yr +. But for a cheap family sedan, best purchase ever. Haven't had to wash the car since '06, and it still shines like ryan eagle's pinky ring.

I grew up in the Business and my grandfather owned his own car lot. I never worked for him, but spent every day as a child at that lot, and then later ended up selling everything from New Acura's to used cars at a Ford dealership. I can assure you that certified is not bullshit. I also know a ton of ASE certified mechanics and grew up in a family of Hot Rod and Street Rod enthusiasts, so I've done a bit of work myself.

However, buying a used sports car isn't the smartest thing in the world, unless you know the previous owner and know he wasn't racing it every time he/she took it out. But buying new is a waste of money in most circumstances.

There are also some like this that offer free unlimited oil changes, tire rotation and balance, air filters, etc ( routine maintenance ) as well. If I could only find 1 that did this and the car wash, it would be heaven.

^^ This. Its like I said before, unless your working at a dealership or know someone who is themselves how can anyone say certified used is BS.

People that are arguing either position are just communicating their own preferences. There isn't a better choice. Only what feels better for you.

Writing off a new car doesn't mean shit. You save a couple g's in taxes, big deal. You can do the same with a pre-owned car and end up paying a lot less.

Why settle for a used car when the company's pretty much paying for it? (goes under capital/expenses)

That's 0 dollars out of your pocket.

Not sure where you get this logic from.

I own an LLC and a corporation, just because I'm writing something off under the company name with company funds, doesn't mean it isn't my money. If you think paying full price for something blindly just because you can think of it as a company expense makes you feel better, sure, go ahead. That's not a great way to manage your company finances though.
