What are the pros and cons of buying..say an Aston Martin, used vs. new? What will save more money? And what have you guys done? Luxury cars only please (70k+)

I buy all mine new.

I grew up though when there was no "certified used" and shit for used cars, so the stigma of buying a used car to me still means "buying someone else's problems". I could prob. go out and buy a used one ( that still had warr. and was certified checked over from the dealer ), but I'd rather just buy a brand new one or demo model and get the full warr. and know some punk kid wasn't banging around at 110 mph pulling the handbrake or trying to hit reverse from 60mph or tricking it out with some fucking mods.

I mean, if your balling and can afford a brand new lux. car, why not just spend the diff and get exactly what you want to the T?

Lollll "certified used" is a load of bullshit. So are warranties, and "full flush" oil changes.

Spend $70K on a new luxury car, or buy it two years old for half price. Seems like a no brainer to me. People seem to be afraid of driving their luxury cars, so it's not hard to find one with under 20K miles on it.

Don't buy luxury sports cars. You always worry about some dickhead keying it, or kicking off the mirror, while you're out partying downtown. There is never enough space to fit anything in the trunk. You pay 2x as much more brakes and tires. You can't fuck a chick on the trunk or hood, the car will dent. Incredibly uncomfortable fuck inside too, most of the time. Total waste of time and money.

You must have never owned anything nice, and I have family that works at dealerships. I know for a fact that "certified used" is not a load of bullshit as my brother in law is a mech. for a honda dealership and there is for sure a difference. Certified used cars have a longer warr. and are inspected closer then the reg 120 point inspection services.

Also, I have used my warranty several times on all of my cars. Matter of fact, I just got 2 brand new $4k seats put in one of them as the driver's seat leather started to get a rip in one of the seams and the passenger's heating element ( for heated seats ) went out and it was cheaper for them to replace the whole seat then fuck with a new leather cover or replace the element.

Bottom line, the warr. is not bullshit. If your talking from experience on the negative, then you ended up with the wrong dealership. Whenever I take mine in, I stand right there and talk to the guys and the managers while watching my cars.

One brother of mine is a mechanical engineer (fixes his own motorcycles, cars, lawnmowers), the other is a diesel mechanic (fixes cars, trucks, frontend loaders, just about anything on a mine site), and my father used to a bunch of different stuff also (fixes trains, cars, motorcycles, planes, boat engines, sprint cars). All three of them will tell you that your brother in law is a pleb, warranties are worthless, and dealer mechanics don't know jack shit about what they are fixing.

Sounds like you buy shit cars if you need to use the warranties. Consider not taking the advice of your pleb brother-in-law and you might not end up with pieces of shit that fall apart on you.

bought my maserati used with 8k miles on the clock. Same year car and still new enough for my taste. Saved about 33% right off the bat.

Buying an used luxury car (70k+) makes no sense, or new or nothing.
A luxury car has not to be seen as "purely investment orientated perspective", it's only a gorgeous and worth waste of money.
Or you can afford it (cash) or buy a cheap car.

hmm..

mechanical engineer, doesnt use dealerships and does his own repairs so what would he know about a dealership warr.?

diesel mechanic, works at a mine.. not at dealership.

and not sure about your dad but it sounds like he isnt at the dealership either....

Not a good bunch of people to rely on for your assumption if you ask me. None of these guys are at a dealership to see what even goes on, and anyone that fixes their own shit will tell you not to pay someone to do it for you. Its kinda like someone that changes their own oil will tell you not to pay anyone to do it or someone that sets up their own roth IRA telling you not to use an investment broker that has been doing this for 20 years and manages millions of dollars of investments.

My time is more valuable then letting some 2 bit jiffy lube guy fix my shit or spend half a day putting in seats into a car when I want a seam stitch fixed or the fluke of some malfuction happens.

Kinda funny you say dealer mech. dont know shit when your 3 family members arent even there. These guys are trained just like anyone else ( ASE ) and they work on their own brand all day long and have access to parts others dont. If the dealerships around you are pieces of shit, then thats your problem and not representative of all others.

And shit cars? Yeah bro whatever. No one said fall apart. Sorry, I value my time a lot more then you and Id rather have someone that works on my brand all day long then some "diesel mine mechanic" or "mechanical engineer" that fixes lawnmowers. Im not trying to save $300 here and $800 there like you. Id rather have someone I know can do the job fix it and spend my time making money because making more money is not a problem, having more time is.

I lol'd @ auto link on ASE.

I buy all my cars 1 year old. Got a top of the line Escalade for 50k vs. 80-85k with only 10k miles on it. Was a lease return. No reason to take that 30k hit on year one. I've done this my last few cars and always have had great luck.

Fixes his friends cars regularly, plus the several he owns. Also does his own body work. When you talk to any dealer mechanics, it takes 30 seconds to realize they don't know what they are talking about.

He used to work for a lot of places, and with a lot of car mechanics. Car mechanics these days are glorified parts swappers.

Doesn't make him any less knowledgeable.

Actually, all of my family tell me to go to a mechanic, and not a dealership. All of them understand that dealer mechanics are worthless plebs.

Certification doesn't mean shit. As mentioned earlier, dealer mechanics are glorified part swappers these days. Waste of money.

I'm not about saving money, I'm about not wasting my time with plebs, or cars that apparently fall to pieces and need a warranty. Especially not a Honda, ever worked on one? Most irritating engineering ever.

1. I've heard some dumb shit this month, but I gotta call out changing your oil to being analagous to setting up your retirement finances. Changing your oil involves a drip pan, funnel, and oil... Hurrr Durrr...

2. You want to talk about irritating engineering, then you mention Honda? LOLOL

Saab. By far the most frustrating thing I've worked on-on a weekly basis.

I'm ASE certified btw.

My car stickered for 94k. I paid 45k with 17k miles 2.5 years later.

Certified for nearly 3 more years after purchase.

I'll let some Other idiot pay ~$3/mile in depreciation alone

Never ever buy a DEMO car. That is just retarded. Everyone speeds it and treats it like trash.
Nothing wrong with buying a used car though. Just have it properly inspected and your good to go.
You can always end up with a monday ride.. new or used doesnt matter.

Ah nice where can we look up his certification?

Wow you can't even have a civil conversation about fucking cars around here

lol you're a moron. BMW and Mercedes have a higher rate of repair or maintenance than Ford even, so what does that say?
