Anyone want to answer a simple, relevant question:

External images are still allowed in regular posts or we wouldn't have all these hilarious pictures posted, therefore pixel stuffing can still be done. All it takes is Nicky setting up a fake account on here through a proxy, and making posts in the big\popular threads with a hidden pixel with another unrelated domain name so nobody knows it's him.
One of the ISP's I used to get my broadband service from used a transparent proxy for ALL their users. This meant everyone appeared to have the same IP, I had great fun fucking with wikipedia articles because they couldn't ban the IP or they'd ban the whole ISP from editing articles. How's that kind of shit going to work?

For the same reason we dislike ebooks, is the reason we don't like this. Basically it's shitting on your own kind for profit. Even though I know that in general an IP list is worth about jack squat.
It's not right, and Cakes should be de-modded. If it was any other user (that wasn't a mod and was proven to be selling this info) the community would have run them out of here, that I can guarantee.
Cakes, you might think you don't owe the community anything, and honestly maybe you don't. However you're a mod and you're held to higher standards when it comes to daily operations. What you do on your own servers and sites is your own business, but we as members did not agree to have mods rape our info for their own personal gain.
I also keep hearing about "all these other people doing it" (like that makes it right), name names or fuck off. Who is (was) doing it? Not that I'm surprised mind you, but they will probably be run off also.
If Jon didn't actually think it was wrong, or unethical, then images in our sig from external sources would not have been disabled. Until Jon comes out and says different that point is going to be pretty hard to defend. You seem to act like you haven't been in contact with Jon since this went in motion, which is probably bullshit. I think Jon made it clear it is not acceptable to do such a thing, especially by a mod.
Do the right thing Cakes and step down as a mod. I'm not saying I'd not ever like to see you as a mod again, I'm just saying you're going to have to regain the trust of the community before you do so.

There are three ways a mod (without access to webserver logs etc) could have gathered these IP addresses. 1) Mod/Admin CP, 2) signature image, 3) scraping the IP address link/img that vBulletin posts accessible to mods and admins next to every post. 3) is easily scraped if you have mod access, since the IP addresses of users who posted are outputted in pure HTML by vBulletin.
1) and 3) involves abuse of mod power. Actions done in 1) are logged and can be checked by admins. We already know nickycakes used 2) on WF. But 2) only gathers IP addresses from surfers (registered and non-registered users) visting threads in which he posted. 3) can be used to gather IP addresses from registered users who posted in every thread at WF, and does not require that the signature image was loaded by the users.
So my questions to nickycakes are:
a) Did you ever scrape IP addresses on WF?
b) If you were on a forum on which one of the mods had gathered IP addresses from using method 2), would you trust that the mod would not use method 3)?
