Less Reading; More Doing

Day 15

What I have done:
-I switched it up and focused on bookmarking/submitting the money domain for today.

SERP Status
I made up an excel sheet to track my rankings for the keywords that are most searched for in Google. I've figured out that Yahoo ranks things way differently than the other two. In Google and Bing, I'm hovering around the bottom of the first page. In Yahoo, I'm in the top 5 for quite a few of the keywords.

Questions and Stuff:
I'm still kind of curious why Yahoo has all of my Shoutpost links indexed and recognized as backlinks, but nothing else.

Money:
Still down $24.57.

Day 16

What I have done:
-Back to the regular links.
-Bookmarked said links.

SERP Status
At around 9:00, I checked and I was ranking 4th for my main keyword but now I'm back down to 7th. I checked up on Bing and I got bumped down to page 3 for my main keyword (which is an exact match for the domain). Kind of a buzzkill after seeing it ranked 4th in Google. I figured I was so close, haha. Google is actually the only one that has more than my homepage indexed.

Questions and Stuff:
-Is it some coincidence that Yahoo is basically only recognizing Shoutpost pages as backlinks? They are all Shoutpost except for a Multiply post and what looks to be some blog aggregator.
-Is there a better way to get my backlinks indexed? I'm pinging each page on Pingomatic and throwing a social bookmark at each page as well.

Money:
Still down $24.57. Surprise, surprise.

Day 17

What I have done:
-More links.
-Bookmarked said links.
-Pinged every page of my link pages that I've made so far.

SERP Status
Nothing new or exciting. Go figure.

Questions and Stuff:
-I'm really wondering if there is a better way to get these link pages indexed. I've put out more than 80 links, not including bookmarks, and Yahoo is only registering 16 of them. So far, I'm pinging and bookmarking the pages.

Money:
Still down $24.57.

Day 18

What I have done:
-More links.

SERP Status
Bing still doesn't like me.

Money:
Still down $24.57.

Other Stuff:
It's kind of lame throwing down all these links and less than 20 get indexed. How do all these 10,000+ page sites get their pages indexed? I'm assuming that there is a better way to do this and I have yet to stumble across it.

Day 19

What I have done:
-More links.

SERP Status
I can't even find the page on Bing for my main keyword and I dropped down to 4 (from 2) in Yahoo. Google hasn't changed.

Money:
Still down $24.57.

Other Stuff:
I'm thinking I either need to try something different or throw down more links.

Seo takes time. Be patient. You'll be waiting 4-6 months before you see what kind of potential your site truly has.

In the mean time keep doing what you've been doing. As long as you're moving forward you'll do fine.

Good Luck!

Hey, look at that. I tested it out in the Caffeine sandbox and it jumped from 7th to 6th. Think they added some emphasis on exact match domains, or something like that?

Anyway, I'm going to stop with all the useless "more links, more bookmarks" posts and just keep you guys updated when something actually happens.

Some thoughts you may already have planned/implemented, if so you spent more time reading and not doing so you should go and do something.

Links - Try to focus on high PR and dofollow for google love. Other engines don't rely on it. If you're just doing junk save yourself the hassle and pay someone a few bucks to blast a few hundred sites. Do the old "join related forums, provide some advice, link in sig/advice" thing if you have time, Yahoo Answers is possible. Get a friend to ask if anyone knows about dealers in the local area and what do you know you have a site just for that.

8 accounts - Hopefully that includes Squidoo/Hubpages/ehow/scribd/etc and not just blogs. Hit up ezinearticles and the other article directories, you don't need to change the articles in a major way but get them on a few sites. Monetize the web 2.0 sites you've put up, don't just do directly related to the money sites and then link to it. For example throw up some crap about the city then list a couple of businesses with the major link being to your sites (you can add and remove them as you finish/sell the niches). Or make a few pages about getting deals with cars (or whatever other business type you have) then push them to your site. Find some CPA offers to push there as well or ebay (used cars/whatever else) or some amazon books (travel book on the area, car maintenance books etc) on these properties, your main interest appears to be ranking for your sites you will be doing long term before selling so get some short term benefits if you can. Once you've sold them it's easy enough to switch the links on most sites.

Traffic - Install the Alexa toolbar (yeah worth about 0.0001% of nothing according to most) and get others you know to do it too and visit your money site to at least show up in their rankings (this will be important when you come selling so you can quote unbiased "stats" or use it to back up your other stats). Once you get close to selling and you don't mind being a little naughty there are ways to boost your stats, just do it carefully and have an explanation ready why it changed so much. Install Google Analytics a few months before getting ready to sell to see if you have local traffic or not, if you don't have local traffic then remove it before selling and keep it as high level as possible (X visitors from USA). If you want local traffic try some offline marketing or even ppc. Adwords let's you drill down a fair bit and spending $50 to get a heap of in-state traffic could be worth it if you think you're going to be dealing with people who have half a clue about sites and traffic stats.

Upsell/continuity - Don't just sell the site, if you're being geographically specific and live in the area start a "webhosting company" and put your links on each property you have. When you sell the site offer the hosting along with it free for 3 months or whatever then keep it cheap enough for it not to be worth switching (this is where a lot of flippers make their money). You can also offer them domain name registration, get a free enom reseller or something similar, will cost you $8.95 per name and you can charge what you like (I think retail is min $9.95) but again it's a case of keep it cheap enough for them not to be worth the hassle. Say you can transfer wherever they like or shift it to their own account but there might be downtime switching hosts/registrars as it takes a few days for changes and email confirmations, mention your current providers have some good free add-ons. For example they'll most likely only go to godaddy for domains if they have no idea so is it worth the risk of losing the name in transit if it's $3 a year difference? Also offer to continually manage the site for a monthly fee, and now you are not just a webhost but also an SEO company. Get a few of these sold and under your belt and you can use them as "case studies" for further marketing.

Pretty basic tips I know but if you're just starting out you may not have thought about some of these. If they're of any use let me know I can throw some more at you, otherwise in the words of one of the geniuses on here "Good luck Bro".

Great, I'll definitely start working a few of those in with what I'm doing. Thanks. So far, I haven't been getting any traffic worth mentioning. I've had Analytics set up from the start and it's starting to get a bit of search engine traffic. If nothing else, it's nice to see what people are searching for to get to the page so I can use those queries as another selling point.

Since you brought up upselling, I have been thinking about going with the "SEO company" route. Something like a set price for the domain by itself, then another set price for getting on the first page, a set price for getting to the top 5 results, etc. I'm thinking that everyone will be happy if I go with the results based pricing (as in, they only pay for the results they get).

I just checked out the Caffeine sandbox again and it's ranked #2. Bing and Yahoo still only have the homepage indexed. Well, they both have the sitemap indexed and Yahoo has a comments page indexed. Annoying. I'm still on the 3rd page in Bing and ranking #3 in Yahoo.

Agreed. Sometimes it's a certain software that's holding you back though.

I've read for a very long time and applied in between, but sometimes you need to invest to make it work times 100. Usually, you must read a lot so everything your doing makes sense
