I think it’s safe to say that I’ve read enough about most of this stuff; I’m not going to get any better without putting something into motion. In the spirit of the whole No Excuses contest, I figured it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bore you guys with another journal, so to speak.
So, what am I putting into motion? It really doesn’t have anything to do with the No Excuses contest other than me actually starting something to make some money online. It’s not PPC; I guess it might be a little bit of domaining and quite a bit of SEO.
Basically, I stumbled upon a little local niche keyword that I don’t think will be very hard to rank for. My end game is to hopefully get the domain ranked in the top of Google and then sell it off to a company that could benefit from it. If I can work things out for this domain, I’ll most likely replicate it. I’ve noticed that people are somewhat secretive about what information they post so let me know if I am being too vague.
The domain is word for word the keywords that I am going for, city-name-business-type.com (no hyphens, of course). I’m hoping that this will give me a little bit of a head start, since I’m competing with some pretty old domains. Other than a few directory-style sites on the first page, none of them have more than 250 backlinks. The AdWords keyword tool tells me that there are around 400 monthly searches for the exact keyword and around 200 for the singular version, however accurate that tool is.
On with the plan (merged with questions):
That’s pretty much it. I can see myself experimenting with some of Eli’s techniques and see how they go. I wouldn’t mind trying to get some link laundering going or submitting an RSS feed for scrapers to copy my links with. I’m trying to stay away from having to host the other blogs that link to the money site myself, since I’d feel obligated to keep them up after I sell the domain. I figure that if they are all hosted on free blog hosts, they’ll always be there without me worrying about keeping them up.
I plan on keeping this thread updated with progress and questions, pseudo-journal style. This is a side project of mine, so I’m trying to squeeze in an hour or two a day to get things up and running.
Well, this post sure got out of hand. Thanks to anyone who actually reads through it all and thanks ahead of time for any help. Let’s hope that this first one will go well enough to not be my last.

- I’ll start off by putting up a few pages of content on the main page. This is kind of where I’m stuck at the moment. Should I just write up 5-10 500 word articles relating to the type of business? I still need to buy some generic hosting to throw all of this on, probably some crummy shared hosting.
- I’ve started registering accounts on Blogger, Squidoo, Wordpress and some bookmarking sites. Do you think it would be alright to spin the articles that I’ll have on the main domain, put them on these accounts (parasite hosting, kind of?) and then scatter in the keywords as anchor text in the articles.
- I’m not sure if this is overkill or not, but would it be a good idea to register more Blogger/Wordpress accounts and just throw in some content with links to the sites mentioned in step 2? I guess it would basically be the standard spammy pages -> key word related pages -> money page formula. Would this make sense to do for just one domain? Would it make more sense just to spin the articles a bunch of times and have them all point directly to the money page?
