Introduction

Hey I'm Eric,
I am 20 years old and like yourselves I am all about doing my own thing and creating my own way in life! I love the disgusting amount of info on WF. Feel free to add me as a friend. I am currently trying to develop my first website!

I'm Jason, from Canada, have a wife & 2 children. I'm a displaced auto worker, and have been through 3 layoffs in the last 4 years. In that time of being in and out of work I've been researching and forum lurking. I'm currently doing mini niche sites, going after high traffic, easier to rank for terms. Looking forward to hanging out and leaning from the forum members...

Howdy Y'all

HOWDY Y'ALL!!!

Now, I didn't read all the intros... but it looks like I'm one of the old farts on this board...at 42yo. Born & Raised Texan...now living in Seattle... Married 15 years with 2 boys. I'm a project manager for a HUGE Airplane company (give you three guesses and the first 2 don't count) Actually love what I do for my "day job"...Go Figure!

I've been bumping around the 'Net since '95, ran two web conferencing biz, made a tiny bit of money. So, not "technically" a noob, but never been serious enough to profit HUGELY.

I've got a WHOLE crap-load of IM "tactical" stuff (dating back to '95) clogging up 2 HDs... I got more stuff than any one person should be allowed to have...and to be honest, most has never seen the light of day... Almost thinking I should just re-format and re-boot my learning (but not sure how or where to really start over)... :-)

Anyway, I've been away from this whole scene for almost 4 years, so I don't even know what is good any more... So, I am looking to devour the content of this forum and get an idea what's what and who's who in the zoo... I'm not looking to make MILLIONS of $$$ a year... but maybe build up a nice little business netting about $5k to $10k per month to start a nice college / retirement fund. Maybe something to pass along to the boys once they get a bit older.

Thought about dipping a toe into Aff. Marketing, not sure I want to go into info marketing (kinda got burnt-out on the whole hype-filled, crappy regurgitated IM info-products "created" by a bunch of posers.

Any rate, I'll be watching and reading the words of wisdom, thoughts, etc of y'all here... And, thanks in advance... This place certainly seems a bit more real than the "other place"!!!

I'm Zach...23 years old. Just graduated from university in May and working as a chemist at Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis -- I'm new to all of this but persistent and willing to bust my ass.

I'm Kei, I'm 29 years old from Arizona. I am a graduate student in the last year of my PhD program, but to be honest I am having much more fun learning about Internet Marketing.

I found this site through Reddit and I'm basically just going to read and learn for a while. I think I'm not in the same league as many of the other posters but I will get there soon.

Made the mistake of posting my intro into the wrong forum/thread yesterday and got raped by a bunch of starving manwhores.

Anywho....I'm a NYC SEO writer/spinner, looking forward to learning, growing, making friends - and apparently some enemies - as well as raking in at WF.

Nice to e-meet you.

-star.

First Post, How would you start OVER from scratch?

Hi, I'm new here but I've done IM before and would like to know how you would do things if you were starting over from scratch.

I've done SEO, Link building, Affiliate Marketing, Sold ebooks, and got cold feet when I finally started making serious money because I was selling things that you're not supposed to sell in the USA. I dropped everything and haven't done IM in a little less than 2 years. I missed IM so I decided to help a friend market her local business and now I am being overwhelmed with referals. I have had to decline customers because I was not prepared for the demand and did not have a portfolio. I'd appreciate some input on my business plan.

The general plan:
  1. Focus on my current clients to build a portfolio.
  2. Promote my own local sites and rent out the phone number/contact information section of the site. Sell these networks of link pyramids and connected social media profiles if possible. Also do local workshops on IM for local businesses. I may make more money by focusing on the workshops.
  3. After I have a mixed portfolio of clients sites and my own networks, I can promote my local seo business by giving people massive referal fees
  4. Work on a monthly retainer, minumum of six month contract to promote local businesses, while also renting out the use of my own sites.
  5. Use my income to bootstrap my own brick-and-mortar businesses and mobile apps that I have ideas about.

I'm not sure, but I think I need to quickly form a "Holding Company" to control the diverse businesses I am getting into. That will make it much easier to partner with people on only some businesses, and also make it simpler to sell them and exit those businesses completely.

I intend to work from home to begin with. I rent a room in a 6-room McMansion. We have a massive formal dining room with 10 seats that I can use as a conference room. We have a brand new fully soundproofed recording studio in the basement. My landlord is a professional chef who will cater meals for my groups if I hold workshops here. A company called ephricon (.com) looks like my primary local competitor. If anyone local wants to co-lo an office and share a secretary in Towson-Timonium, MD then I may eventually be interested. I checked out the office park where Zynga has an office, they have available offices, and it is pretty sweet -but I have just started on step 1.

I have a trusted, competent VA in the Phillipines who says she might want to do revenue sharing so I don't have to pay her hourly or up front. I'm thinking of putting xrumer on a cheap desktop PC at home and giving her access to it for runs. The way I've done this before is to give her remote access to my PC, then I made the desktop background a graphic that is actually instructions on how to acceess my VPN and proxies, and she runs all software through that. Also going to put scrapebox on an old tablet pc for her to access when needed. My first client is buying me a Macbook as payment for my first month of work. For the second month I will get a new PC and xrumer. This is cheap for them, tax-free for me, and gets me both new tools and a showpiece for my portfolio. Between that, Bookmarking Demon, and SEnukeX + my link pyramid architecture, I think I'm set.

If you were going to do something similar, and you were starting over from scratch, how would you do it differently from the way I have laid out my plan?

Add me on Google+. I also have invites if you haven't got one yet:
