Insanity or P90X for overwieght, but fit Person?

I don't want to read this whole thread, but I'll give you my advice should you care to heed it.

Step 1: Read "You are what you eat" and follow it to a tee. If you are not vegetarian, feel free to add organic chicken, fish, and lean turkey anywhere in there. Reading the entire book is important, and it can change your life if you take it seriously.

Step 2: Start jogging long distances. Long sustained cardio, especially running, is great for your body and overall health in more ways than I can list on this page. Start small, get all stretched and hydrated and start running around a track, or something you can judge distance with. Run until you feel like you can't take another step - not until you're "tired of running". I like to say that the amount of work you put in AFTER you are tired, is what you really get out of a workout, and helps you push farther next time. Continue this 5 out of 7 days of the week, make it a habit. If you can do this, AND follow step 1, I guarantee you will lose 10-20 lbs in the first few months and feel like Obama felt on Monday.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions...

Cheers

If you want to look good naked (which seems to be your goal) you need to focus on a few simple things.

1) Lift weights. Lifting heavy and hard burns calories and builds muscle, which eats fat. Check out Riptoe's 5x5 workout. If you are doing heavy compound lifts you will be burning a ton of calories, trigger major increases in the amount of testosterone produced by your body, and you will become bigger stronger and faster.
2) Eat Clean. Abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym.
3) High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Focus on sprints: hill sprints, 200, 400, and 800 meter runs. If you really like distance running try to mix in sprints to your routine. For example, jog 4-5 blocks and then sprint 1. Think of the people you know who are long distance runners. 99% are either toothpicks or they are "skinny-fat". They can finish a marathon but they have a little paunch and some spindly legs. Now think about any sprinter you have seen or met. They are cut, fast, and typically have legs like tree trunks.
4) Rest. Your muscles don't grow when you're in the gym; they grow when you are resting and sleeping. Lift really fucking hard when you're at the gym, maybe do a few minutes of high intensity cardio such as working with heavy bag, sprints, etc. (because cardio after lifting is much more effective at burning fat that the other way around) and then take it easy for the rest of the day. Have a few protein shakes and dont worry about lifting in the morning and doing Insanity at night. That is a great way to overwork your body and see minimal gains as a result of your hard work.

I did p90X, although I added my own spin, and it worked great; the problem is as soon as I stopped, I started gaining again, so you better be prepared for long-term commitment

Too lazy to google what 6 feet is, but I am 185 and was 115kg before I started and after about three months was 100kg or so if I remember correctly, so that was good since I was losing about 5kg per month

I am 6 foot and weight 205lbs. The problem is, I am all fat, with a big belly. I want to loose weight and build muscle. I have my meal plan down. Now for an exercise regement.

Nigga, how about you do some PROPER exercise, which means hitting up the gym and either doing Strong Lift, or some sort of 5x5 variants like Reg Parker 5x5. You need to lift HEAVY iron to burn those fat and build muscles.

Or go to the ghetto part of town and work out with these guys:

I do HIIT on the elliptical trainer so it saves my knees. 2 minutes of warmup, then for the next 10 minutes I alternate - 1 minute of solid sprint, 1 minute of leisurely jog. Then 4 minutes of cooldown. I set the elliptical at level 11-12 so it adds resistance like doing hill training.

If you're that much of a fatty I wouldn't worry about trying to gain a muscular physique just lose weight as fast as possible at first until you get down to a desirable size and then start building muscle from there.

P90X should be arriving at my door in a day or two - I ordered it as my 37th Birthday present on Sunday. I've been overweight my entire adult life - including while I was in the Army. In fact I got "kicked out" of the Army for not having enough consecutive months of body fat % loss. While I wasn't in good or great shape at least I was in good enough shape to get laid back then. Nowadays nobody wants to lay a rumply fat 250-lb dude.

Can't wait to start bringing it!

HIIT is insane, helped me lose 20 pounds so far. Down to 9% body fat and should be down to 7-8% by middle of June. Do you just use the elliptical or do you sometimes use the treadmill?

If the army can't get you into shape, what makes you think Tony Horton and P90x will? lol

you should do crossfit if you want to do something gay like p90x. otherwise be a real man and stick to bench, squat, deadlift, pull ups, cleans. cardio is for girls. you should be good once you can clean 225 if you weigh 205. try for a 200lb overhead press too.

Worst advice possible for the goals he's trying to achieve..

^This man knows what he is talking about. By FAR the best advice in this thread.

If the army can't get you into shape, what makes you think Tony Horton and P90x will? lol

Well Tony Horton wants me to succeed and uses motivation instead of humiliation as a training tactic. Plus I now have a very different outlook on life and am willing to put forth whatever effort it takes to succeed in transforming my body.

I've done the first 7 days of P90x and feel terrific and have already noticed changes in the mirror and feel muscles like my lats that I haven't felt for 19 years.

As far as the army goes - of course I lost weight in basic training. It was once I was stationed at a base where there was no mess hall - we got a monthly allowance for food and were on our own. That meant lots of Burger King super size garbage meals. And our Physical Training schedule was very lax so we only worked out a few times a week basically on our own - and we didn't know what we were doing. And I was a smoker back then and smoking and cardio don't mix too well. I absolutely hated running because it hurt my lungs so bad but now I don't mind it because it doesn't hurt. Going to incorporate some kind of sprinting routine into my workouts after my p90x sessions.

Do cardio, lift weights, and go on a diet.

It's that fucking simple. Keep up with that lifestyle and you'll see drastic changes in a few years.

No need for P90X, insanity, workout programs, etc. Don't expect to get an olympian body in 90 days.

P90X should be arriving at my door in a day or two

Day 17 on P90X. I absolutely hate Yoga X and have replaced it with Cardio X. As he says in the vid, "I don't wanna do no yoga". Fuck you and your crane.

I'm using Lose It! - Succeed at weight loss with Lose It! to track all my food/calories/macros. Right now I'm on 2100 calories a day but thinking I may need to go higher. Going to get a BodyMedia FIT calorie counter armband - [ame=http://www.amazon.com/BodyMedia-Weight-Management-Solution-Armband/dp/B0044ZAF0C]Amazon.com: BodyMedia FIT Weight Management Solution Armband: Health & Personal Care[/ame] There's a huge thread on bodybuilding.com about them and how good they work and how surprised people are that are cutting or bulking but were way off on their daily calorie burn.

Anyway, so far I'm down 8lbs. and 2% bodyfat. Anyone else have updates?
